Main holiday season so a lot will be away, Cat A game, and then there is the affordability aspect for non season ticket holders. Many have probably just taken the family away for a fortnight abroad or spent a fortune in this country...they could probably do without spending another £50-£100 quid right now for a day at the football when they are also paying off the holiday this month. Attendances will settle down again soon and I reckon it will rival last seasons numbers.

Increased TV/streaming availability should ultimately drive ticket prices down, but no doubt it won't, so....

I think a lot will remember last seasons game so to me Norwich are not much of an attraction. Another factor maybe a bit of disappointment in the fact we haven't brought in that desperately needed striker. Neither Norwich or Swansea have brought many fans the away followings so far at the lane have been lower Championship to upper league one levels, also we are into the traditional Sheffield holiday weeks for many it should pick up in the next few games.

No doubt watching via the red button or on Facebook. I can see this only getting worse during the seasons to come.
I'm not having a dig at those who choose to watch this way as it's obviously a saving, but the repercussions will be bad for a lot of teams.
Or, it could be because it's the kids holidays, and people are on holiday?????
Just a thought......

I missed the first half after only getting out of Birmingham airport at 2.30. in my seat for 4.04pm and really glad I made the effort.

If you don't have kids, you will forget how it is now impossible to have a two week holiday without missing matches. Up to about1993 the season started the Sat before August bank holiday, therefore around the 20th. This year was was stupid early. Never been more than 5 mins late before, oh yes obviously I have a season ticket.

So if say 70% of kids have a two week holiday in the school hols, there is a good chance 35% of all family's are on holiday or travelling at 3pm today. Still next month we can all watch the internationals on telly instead when we have a break for nowt.

I think season ticket sales are down by about 2k on last season and as we all know these are counted in the attendance even if the holder doesn't attend, therefore,i would think our average attendance will be down by about this figure unless we have an exceptional season.

Norwich away support is as good as anyone in the division. Considering how far they have to travel for pretty much every game and how many they take irrespective of how well they're doing.

Equally 23-24,000 for a second tier game with around 1,500 away fans at a guess is nothing to be ashamed about.

City fans: 1,217

Tell you what though, we’d might be a thousand or two down on last year but we’ve definitely been a lot louder this first two league games, and not just when we’re winning.

Today's attendance is almost exactly 3000 less than our average last season.

I think it's more to do with it being a Cat A fixture, absolute bollocks, A and A* teams should probably be reserved for the relegated teams, derbies, and the previous seasons play off teams. Not last season's 14th placed team and serial shithousers Norwich.

I'd also expect more away fans too though to be fair.

Not up on these things but are you saying we averaged 26850 last season?

Apologies. Tricky commute from southern Turkey so decided to watch it ont telly.

You’ll have heard me shout “get the fuck in” when Billy scored though.

And according to me. :D

Last season (and the previous six in the third tier) were exceptional and shouldn't be used as a stick to beat us with this season. Holidays, 'second season syndrome' etc. play a part. I think 30-odd quid for any game outside the PL is ridiculous. Even in the 2002-03 'Triple Assault' season when ticket prices were much cheaper we regularly got 13-16k home crowds and averaged only 18,073. Our support is tremendous.

I'm far more concerned with our vocal support than our attendances anyway.

And once again it's been woeful. Really weak. It's on its arse and dying.

But they all leap out of their seats to give it a "we're on the march" for 20 seconds when we've scored so there's still that...

How can I sing when I have a prawn sandwich to enjoy?

When wages stagnate and prices rise, people need to make a choice.

It's ridiculous that football clubs continue to charge people higher and higher prices when the majority simply cannot afford it.

At times yesterday it was very quiet (as it often is at a lot of home games when the game dies off a bit) however like you say, I’ve noticed it being a lot louder, particularly in the south stand (where i sit) when summat decent happens. Much better than last year.

For example, after Dean H made that save yesterday, the crowd in the south stand were buzzing and we had a few choruses of something (can’t remember was pissed).

When our end of the south stand gets vocal, it really does create a brilliant atmosphere.

Atmosphere was so quiet yesterday. It seems the lads that start the songs are all away at moment.

I really do not understand why clubs have such high prices. For years everyone has been saying it, reduce prices and fill more seats. Use the Bradford model.

I mean, we don’t struggle for attendances anyway, but I still think we should be doing more, particularly for kids. Free tickets in schools etc. I live in Barnsley and the amount of stuff the Dingles at my lads school and surrounding areas is really impressive. He’s come home from school having done activities in PE with Barnsley coaching staff, clutching a Barnsley cap/new football etc. He’s only five as well, so obviously doesn’t understand that he will be coming with me to United every week. I’ve burnt the Barnsley shit on the fire.

Anyway the point is, Barnsley do struggle for crowds compared to us, so they have to do this stuff. We need to be less complacent and do a bit more to invest in our future supporters.

I’m taking the kids to the open training session tomorrow which I think is a really good idea, so hopefully the club will do stuff there to get the young uns hooked!

A year ago today we played Barnsley. Crowd was 25,482 with a lot more away fans.
