When Blackwell leaves, is sacked or whatever, who would you pick to replace him?

Im sticking with my long term advocate for the post:-

Mickey Adams.

Hmmmm, Quite a tough question because I'd like to think realistically, Ideally I'd like to have someone like Harry Redknapp, but available and affordable manager wise, I'd probably go with someone like Ian Holloway because I think he fits in with our ethos, or Gary Speed as I think he's a major factor in our end of season results last year.

Mickey Adams??? What has he ever achieved?

Hoofball and failure. Still, he's a Blade so that's fine. I despair.

Steve Coppell - no contest.

I would give Gary Speed a try. Highly respected and would surely have some great contacts in the game. Also a media darling so would give us a bit of extra coverage and respectability.

I'm wi' Pinchy Steve Coppell all his teams have been good footballing sides wi' good players.

Same old, same old same old. Do you think that it's realistic to sack a manager who appears to be taking us in the right direction?. Most of the managers suggested have done well for a limited time and almost inevitably there comes a down turn when they are sacked. As an example, Harry Rednap has had mixed fortune in his career and once was a strong candidate to manage the Blades. Successful teams i.e. Manure and Arsenal have stuck by their managers. Liverpool, in the past did the same and won shed loads of medals.
I think Blackwell will take us to the P.L. Chopping and changing is not the answer;we could get another Robson.

Brian the Blade off football heaven. We'll lose ten games on the trot then the fans can hang him by his nackers from the nearest lamp post.

I don't think this is about sacking Blackwell or whether you back him or not. It's just randomly who you would like as manger. Not a Blackwell out thread :)

Yeah forgot about that one....he had such a massive influence in those 33 days at the helm!!

Coppell is the best shout...but what about Gordon Strachan?

And I'm surprised that no-one's mentioned the legend that is Bobby Davison...

While not agreeing with everything that KB has done, his record is fantastic and I think any talk about his replacement is a bit distasteful.

Anyway, of all the managers out there some get lucky, most get found out in the end and spend a few months in the studio talking crap before another club takes a chance on them.

Yes, Martinez seems a good shout but he clearly is beginning to look out of his depth at Wigan. Bilic? Bobby Davidson???

Let's stick with what we've got and get behind him.

Obviously the tone of this thread is 'hypothetical', as we can assume that KB has done exactly what is required of him by the Board (reduce cost/quantity of squad and stay in top 6 - for now!) but in my mind there is one outstanding candidate for what is quite obviously a very special job.

There has never been a former Blades captain return as Manager, someone who understands the unique requirements to be Blades boss and what we all expect from the team (too many of those mentioned just wouldn't 'get it') and someone who has been tried and tested in the hot seat already and been found to be successful and canny when it comes to spotting a player and moulding a team (oh, and they live in Sheffield and would see this as a fantasic career opportunity, not just a temporary appointment)......step forward Reg Holdsworth, currently riding high in the Vauxhall Conference with Mansfield (where he signed the 'new Stuart McCall' recently and is making a major player out of him!).

sean o'driscoll, alan irvine, dave penney(?), lee clarke, simon grayson, andy scott, paul lambert, john collins.

all of which, as far as I have seen, like to play decent football.
all fit the bill as they wouldnt necessarily fill top billing so we would in theory be able to lure them from their current clubs.

i could also make cases for mark robins, gary johnson, nigel adkins.

If Beighton Blade or 'our Gert' weren't available then realistically I would give it to Gary Speed.
