Quite a few comments that Leon Clarke shouldn't be captain, but does it make a difference? Brentford manager Dean Smith has opted not to have a captain this season, instead having six or seven players as a 'leadership group' and taking it in turn to take part in the pre match toss (titter ye not). This sounds like a good idea to me, I've never been convinced about the need for a captain.

I always liked the old cliche of a team needs 11 captains, but based on that first half shower last night, just 1 would be a nice start. Personally I don't care who it is, as long as they can kick a few arses as required.

Our captain is just like one of us.. needs to be there and be around! Even wilder said thats the reason he was on the bench against pigs away even though he couldnt feature!

A: Not if it's Leon Clarke!

Leon is no captain, and he's not the player some on here rave about. It's time for a shake up.

We need a captain/ designated arse kicker.

I don't think Leon doesn't have the temperament on the pitch, he's better concentrating on his job because he does do a lot fair play.

Billy is a great captain, sticks up for his teammates, applauds good play even if he's not involved, has a go when they're not trying hard enough. He's not playing though.

Second choice would be Coutts but he's injured.

Third choice for me would be Baldock, plays, always gives it his all, seems quite aware, vocal.

If he's not playing Billy though, and isn't planning on it for a while we need a new club captain or just get rid like Brentford because I don't think Leon is at his best when he's captain.

No wonder they were quiet then.
What leads you to that assertion? Because you can’t hear them over the noise of the crowd from wherever you sit?
I can confirm that Simon Moore is very vocal, I went to the Checkatrade Trophy match against Walsall and his voice was the only sound in the stadium.

We need Morgs back!!

Been a total absence of any leaders on the pitch on Sat & Tues night , what I don’t like is when we concede a goal that players just put their head down and walk away for restart shows a lack of responsibility.
Yes with Billy’s playing we get that , but I always think a side is better organised from the middle / or back .. ie candidates when playing would be Basham , Stearmsn , or I’d like to see Fleck as Capt when Billy not involved .
I said at start of last season I thought we needed a ball winner in there and suggested Aden Flint to which someone laughingly said what that donkey ?? A good season season later the donkey’s off to Boro for £8M .
We do need someone of Morgan’s old leadership qualities , they not be technically the best or over confident in the back 3 tippy tappy that we sometimes over play , but they will organise those around them , defend balls into the box ala Tues night & provide a threat at the other end on set pieces & corners that we didn’t have last season so will still more than play their part .
If that’s the role that Egan’s been brought in for then he’s got a steep learning curve but I don’t write players off after 2 games .
I’m all for playing attractive football & playing three the lines , but you still have to have someone who can defend , organise and do the basics right & tell those that aren’t where there going wrong on the pitch .
We also need to step up the tempo of our play and not be afraid to pick out a long pass and turn the opposition , big difference between a long pass and hopeful ball into the channels , need variation & tempo in our play and if that means sacricing winning the possession stats trophy once in a while then so be it ‘

say what you like about Billy but his leadership qualities are sorely underestimated. he cares about this club.
