Hypothetical question....but

If we had hung on to win the game, what would the slaggers of our players and manager been posting after the game?

I reckon summat like.......Hard fought victory against a recent Prem side.
Worked the ball around well ........
Anymore?
but we didn't....we gave away points from a winning position which was happening quite often last season.

There is obviously an issue with the organisation of the defence and and management which hasn't been resolved yet

Two poor sides, got lucky.

The defensive organisation was mostly ok, what happened in front of them caused us all sorts of problems

Sorry ,Swiss but don't agree. The failure to do the basics for both their goals was nothing to do with the midfield. The way Basham lacked the discipline to keep the defensive shape meant it was easy for Swansea to play behind him which left two against one for Baldock and dragged Egan over to cover( see in particular the 2nd goal)

At 1:0 up I thought we'd hold out and win by that margin. I thought there would be loads of positivity on here regardless of the performance.

A performance which I thought was poor, despite the result and looked worryingly like the second half of last season.

The result yesterday was meaningless in terms of the season as a whole. As someome else mentioned, we were poor in the opening day of last season, but got lucky. We then lost the next two before picking up and having a great autumn.

Let's hope we can do the same again. The difference last time round is thatwe'd come off a great promotion. We've come off a poor second half of the season.

except we didn't beat them - we lost - it's all about how to put it right and address the SAME problems we had last season.

Some people say it's the first game and so what - it might very well be the first game, but we are not gong to get the benefit of being top of the league after week 17 & week 19 like last year and have a buffer to fall back on.

First and foremost - sort the midfield - then we might not have CW saying the defence was rubbish.

Still cross - off for a coffee on Eccy road some where !!!

Yeah, I walked through the Swansea fans on Bramall Lane after the game and you'd have thought they'd won the European Cup. Don't underestimate Wilders Blades. We're a force to be reckoned with nowadays.

I said to my Dad at 1-0 "not the best goal we've ever scored but I'll take it" and he said "Yeah we've been shocking" and I said "aye".

So I imagine I'd have put, good points on the board but we were shocking at times. Still won't cross the ball in good positions and we passed it back too much. Work to be done.

The defensive line in front of the back 3 was non existent, this is something which has worked so well under wilder in the past

I won’t say I’m glad we lost but...if we were going to lose a game, first of the season isn’t the worst time, and it does temper expectations, it shows us what we need to improve on with time to do it, and also still a bit of time in the transfer window if needed.

Maybe a win would have masked those issues?

I appreciate many of the issues we saw yesterday were also apparent last season.

And we still can't take our chances when we make them …….. and it costs us points particularly when we have a meh performance like yesterday o_O

More worrying was how few chances we made. With our conversion rate we need to make a lot.
