I know in the past there has been a lot of discussion about the academy (thank you Neil) and what it brings to United. Everyone is now in agreement it has been a great asset to the club both financially and for the first team progress. There is also another benefit that is now being seen.

The success of academy player like Maguire, Walker, Lowton, Naughton, Calvin-Lewin and Brookes has shown to premier clubs who want to loan out their younger players that United are excellent at developing and nurturing young talent.

Hence Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool all willing to loan us players.

It’s a great asset to the Blades and something we should be hugely proud of. Given the players we’ve sold, it’s in credit. If we ever got to the Premier League and could upgrade it to a top tier setup in the category I genuinely believe it could rival some of the best academies in Europe.

It's to provide our masters with better players whilst we continue along our subservient way

Can you point me to a positive post you’ve posted please?

It’s one thing being annoyed about how certain things are at the club but bloody hell mate I’m left wondering why on Earth you even bother, you’re in a very dark place Bladeswise

Pound for pound we've got a lot more value from investing in the academy in terms of first team appearances, sell on fees, sell on clauses and reputation gain then we would have done buying 28 year old journeyman.

It's been well run and has turned a profit I'd imagine. I don't get the negativity

Which Neil are we thanking and why?

I hope so I really do because all I can remember seeing is depressing slagging off of everything Blades

I'm naffed off still about selling Brooks and I won't pretend to be anything other than naffed off.
There's something more special about one of your own products making the first team and doing well, and once again we'd been robbed of it.

What made it worse is we were sat watching the World Cup at the time, Maguire and Walker playing well, Then thought about previous World Cups and Euro Championships with Jagielka playing. You could even include Cahill who we should have signed instead of the dross we ended up with.

Anyway I was sat there wondering if Uniteds directors were sat watching the football and thinking "If only"
And had they finally learned their lesson......….Had it finally dawned on them

And almost instantly I find out we've sold Brooks

Stop with the joke posts, admit you are not a fan/supporter of Sheffield United Football Club. You are "naffed off" about selling Brooks?

There's something "more special", fuck me, you must be a pig fan speaking like that

What you meant was

"anyway, I was sat watching the world cup, thinking "how come the Blades produce quality players, and generate a load of TV and press time, due to them being so good, whereas every other local club are fucking wank?"

Awww diddums
Did I say something you don't agree with too

When you reach the mental age of about 13 you'll begin to realise that sometimes people don't agree with you,
But by then you might also understand that you just have to accept it instead of jumping up and down and showing off like a baby

I was just laughing at you because you don't understand basic grammar, school kid stuff, "more special", you fucking fool.

You can disagree with me all you want you clown, as long as your wage packet never gets mixed up with mine, I won't worry.

The last resort, pick on grammar or typos
I am an Independent Financial Adviser with my own business that does extremely well thank you
I am also an investment fund analyst

And in my spare time I trade my own money on forex and cryptocurrency exchanges

Don't worry, I doubt that our wage packets will get mixed up

From that description, you sound like a pig fan who is (or at least was) on Sheffield Forum. Lived (from memory) at Greenhill or Bradway.

As for wage packets, if you think yours, as described above, is something to marvel at?........

Leave this forum for fans of Sheffield United, go back and support your own club, and please.....please....don't try and think that "Independent Financial Adviser" would impress anyone....you mean you sell fucking pensions you clown

Life Assurance salesmen and trainees in the banks sell pensions
Independent Financial Advisers correct the fuck ups that these people make
We are also qualified just as much as Accountants regarding taxation, we have to be when dealing with investments
Plus a bit of Legal expertise when it comes to Wills & Trusts

As someone who knows absolutely nothing about the academy, aside from the fact that it consistently produces talent, can someone explain to me why it's so good? Or is there anything online to read about it? Thanks.

So just to be clear, because you seem to have avoided it, you are not the pig fan who claimed to be in your trade, from Greenhill/Bradway area? Used to post on Sheffield Forum (or maybe still does).

Cryptocurrency - you trade in it or you mine it?

Pensions - worth it? (private ones)

No I'm not the pig fan from Greenhill

I trade cryptocurrencies, don't have any Bitcoin at all anymore, it seems that it's day has come and gone.
Cryptocurrency is something that I would never advise on, it is just far too volatile for the average client, as well as being unregulated.

Pensions are good investment vehicles and very worthwhile from a taxation point of view, but too many people put £30 a month into them and expect miracles.

Either do it properly with decent contributions or find another retirement vehicle is what I generally say to customers

You could be the Governor of the Bank of England for all I care but one thing you definitely are is a fucking pig . You always have been and always will be a pig . Now why not be a proper little poker and fuck off . You're boring the fucking arse off everyone .

Thank you :)

Agree with most of that, the only bone of contention being that it was John Warnock rather than Neil who was the brains behind the academy - along with Ron Reid. Neil and Kevin McCabe had more to do with the financial side: Neil accepted that money was better of going in that direction after United had trouble with the council over our former facility. This necessitated a new one in which United really pushed the boat out. Kevin McCabe, as ever, put up the money.
The academy has generated circa 40-50 million in transfer fees, and major contributions from the likes of Harry Maguire. It costs just over one million a year to run. It also doubles up as a training ground for the first team. No academy means we would have to build and maintain a purpose built first team training ground. I 've no idea how much such a facility would cost to build and maintain, but I'm guessing most of that one million pound saving would be swallowed up.
Academy players have subsidised first team player signings and wages. Not the other way round. A lot of Blades have trouble getting their heads around this.Something else worth mentioning: FFP doesn't take into account academy spending, so it makes a good academy even more of a no brainer.
