Well that’s the u23s who need first team experience all away to learn as much as possible.
Great move for all of them. Smith to Barrow, Semple to Queen of the South, Gilmore to Tranmere, Graham to Oldham, Slater to Carlisle.
Fully expect Smith and Semple to play 25 games or so and come back in January to then go out again to L1. The others have full season loans.
Good luck to all of them on their journey.
Well penthouseblade Jordan has already been out on two loan spells to aid his development. 2 goals in 10 appearances for Southport. Three starts, two subs & no goals for Viking Stavanger in Norway. Thanks for all the updates on our kids Phil, interesting and much appreciated!
What do you make of Jordan Hallam? Isn't he some sort of goal machine? ! I would have thought he'd be out on loan also??
I think Eastwood will stay at the club as third choice. CW won’t risk an injury to Moore or Henderson and have to chuck Dewhurst on to the bench.Do you think RND and Eastwood will go out?
Slater gets close. We buy another set of players who block him. And then another fucking transfer window opens.
I have a mantra I use about Hallam. I think he will play league football.
And all last year United were terrible at corners and poor at freekicks. One of the reasons I think he'll make it somewhere is he has an extra string to his bow. He's a great deadball man. Free kicks, corners, etc.
True what you say Phil but this is the year when all the loanees sample proper competitive football and it will test the skills they learned at Shirecliffe. I have no doubt all our lads will earn a proper contract but no positive view that it will be with United although the ones I know are Blades to the bone. The ones with the proper attitude will form ties to their loan clubs. Keep up your monitoring of the lads and lets see where they are at the end of this exciting year for them allWell penthouseblade Jordan has already been out on two loan spells to aid his development. 2 goals in 10 appearances for Southport. Look. There's a reality. How are any of our Academy kids going to get in the first team? We're constantly trying to get out of one level, to the higher level, without falling to the level below. The kids have to be good enough to play in the first team. Sure. But, we're a churn club. The signings which the announce announce announce generation have clamoured for - your Carruthers, Holmes, Leonard - are no better (indeed worse) than what we've already got. They block the Academy kids. Slater gets close. We buy another set of players who block him. And then another fucking transfer window opens.
I'm not saying we can do anything differently. Kids have to be good enough. But. No. Jordan Hallam is MILES off the first team. Not because he isn't good enough. But because he's got such a queue in front of him - it's not worth worrying whether he's good enough.
I have a mantra I use about Hallam. I think he will play league football. But not for United. He is an attacking midfielder or striker. Not a target man. More pacy, shrugs his man off, fox in the box. One of the reasons I think he'll make it somewhere is he has an extra string to his bow. He's a great deadball man. Free kicks, corners, etc.
All I've got.....

RND needs to play games, Newport maybe. Close to his home.
That is unless CW feels training with the first team and u23s is better for his development than games.
Absolutely agree 100% and a perfect description of his game on Tuesday night.Well penthouseblade Jordan has already been out on two loan spells to aid his development. 2 goals in 10 appearances for Southport. Three starts, two subs & no goals for Viking Stavanger in Norway.

All I've got.....
Played with him before when he was 16, the lad scored for fun against grown men. He is defo a fox in the box.Just seen this, good luck and the updates from Roy will give some who haven’t seen much of him an idea of how good he is...
Natural finisher.... takes his chances more often than not..
A proper fox in the box...
He’ll play in our first team eventually of that I’ve got no doubt.
Good moves for all the lads that have gone out Semple needs games to further his recovery , Ty Smith will come back much tougher and streetwise for his time at Barrow, Sam Graham will come back with a greater understanding of the game as that for me is his main weakness owing to the fact he didn’t join the academy set up until U15’s...the interesting one is Gilmour And Slater both play same position and at present you would say Slater has the edge on Gilmour but will this be the case when they both return to the club....that said with all these lads missing I think the 23’s are in for a long season!!I was hoping Slater would be in the squad (maybe on and off this year) that cup game never phased him and he looked more of an enforcer thanthe other midfielder's we have but I don't watch him weekly.
And all last year United were terrible at corners and poor at freekicks.
I think Gilmour will be fine He’s got a great attitude and desire to do well if he’s not in the starting 11 from the off I fancy him to force his way in and stay inI think the Gilmour Slater one is correct. My fear is that Slater will play plenty of games. Gilmour may not be first choice at Tranmere and play fewer games.
That could be a problem.
That said by the sound of things the Tranmere manager rates Gilmour highly, so he should play plenty.
They all need to get cemented by an grizzly old fucker like Steve McNulty. Cope with that and they’re half way there.Good moves for all the lads that have gone out Semple needs games to further his recovery , Ty Smith will come back much tougher and streetwise for his time at Barrow, Sam Graham will come back with a greater understanding of the game as that for me is his main weakness owing to the fact he didn’t join the academy set up until U15’s...the interesting one is Gilmour And Slater both play same position and at present you would say Slater has the edge on Gilmour but will this be the case when they both return to the club....that said with all these lads missing I think the 23’s are in for a long season!!
It will be interesting who, if any, Chris sees as worth keeping around the first team.Good moves for all the lads that have gone out Semple needs games to further his recovery , Ty Smith will come back much tougher and streetwise for his time at Barrow, Sam Graham will come back with a greater understanding of the game as that for me is his main weakness owing to the fact he didn’t join the academy set up until U15’s...the interesting one is Gilmour And Slater both play same position and at present you would say Slater has the edge on Gilmour but will this be the case when they both return to the club....that said with all these lads missing I think the 23’s are in for a long season!!
You can’t really compare the first team players who have left or gone on loan to the 23s who have gone out on loan.It will be interesting who, if any, Chris sees as worth keeping around the first team.
So far to the best of my recollection:
Seniors out from last season (13) - Blackman, Wilson, Hussey, Donaldson, Reed, Hanson, Brooks, Long, Carruthers, Heneghan, Thomas, Evans, Holmes
Senior recruits (5) - Egan, McGoldrick, Bryan, Henderson, Woodburn
U23s out from last season (5) - Graham, Gilmore, Semple, Slater, Smith
U23s recruits (5) - Amissah, Sheppeard, Gomis, Brunt, York, (also signed Leo Gaxha but I think for the U18s)
You'd think Norrington-Davies and possibly Hallam are the only two youngsters who could possibly depart and of the seniors, Lafferty, Lavery and possibly Eastwood could be up for question. Maybe Wright would also be allowed to move but for his injury with Bryan coming in.
Maybe if Lavery moves Hallam will spend time with the first team as the 5th striker?
Is Jake Bennett still around for watchers? It says his contract was up on 30th June.
I'm not comparing in that context Redhead. You can’t really compare the first team players who have left or gone on loan to the 23s who have gone out on loan.
The first teamers are clearly not in CW plans where the 23s are going out to aid their development.
Going back to ‘dreams’ comment. The 23s are going to have a real tough season with the youngsters who have gone on loan missing.
The lads who have gone out are very very good players.
Still getting back to fitness .....I'm not comparing in that context Redhead.
Just curious what sort of U23 team will be left. Also, which players with U23 experience Wilder might consider having train with the first team, especially given that so many you may consider being in that category are out gaining valuable experience.
I would be interested if Norrington-Davies has made an impression for instance. Perhaps he's replaced Lafferty in Wilder's thinking. Unless Stevens gets injured I don't see Lafferty getting picked. When Stevens form dropped last year, there was never any inkling his place was under threat.
Do you know what happened to Bennett after his injury? Given more time or released?
Jake did both his ACL and PCL so takes a long time to come back from maybe Xmas he might be out on the grass againIt will be interesting who, if any, Chris sees as worth keeping around the first team.
