Treeton said there was no done deal. He didn’t say there was no prospect of a deal. There is now knee-jerking because people have misunderstood the ‘announcement’ today and blown it up into something it never was.

No Waggeh no likey?

IDEA.

If we can't get Waghorn how about spending a similar amount on Luke Freeman instead?

Then just spend less on the alternative strikers.

Freeman's a similar calibre player and we should be investing a lot of the Brooks fee on attacking players. And I do feel we need a quality player to contest the attacking midfield role with Duffy. Freeman would be a proper fit for that role.

Not suggesting i can do better than wilder but genuinely if you think 10million for waghorn on the back of a decent season and pushing 30 represents value for money - fair enough. It doesn’t imo and I don’t believe we have that money to spend anyway or that wilder would blow 10m on one player. If we could get him for 5m I think he would improve our squad and prospects for next season.

I’d suggest spending half that amount on an international scouting network and picking up some players that are affordable and won’t be asking for £40k per week.

My personal choices would be Armstrong if he’s available for 2-3mil and maybe look to get a decent prosepect from a top club on loan. Then use the remaining saved money on a decent creative midfielder

At what point did I say , or even imply that I think 10 mill for Waghorn represents value for money ?

The answer of course is I didn't , and nor do I . It is widely reported that the offer we have tabled is 5 mill and if we can get him for that , or even a bit more , I believe he would be an excellent acquisition.

Your comments about spending money on an international scouting network are entirely irrelevant to this debate, which is about the here and now and the signing of a striker who can make a significant difference next season .

Adam Armstrong and " a decent prospect on loan " are not quite the answers I was looking for in this respect .

Waghorn would be our 'Marquee' signing of the window if it happened. Not sure it would be the case if he went to Derby and would definitely not be the case at Forest. I would suggest important factors for a player who is at an age where he would want to play regularly?

The crazy money being bandied about for strikers in the Championship just makes me appreciate the quality strikers we have in Sharp and Clarke.

Is this a wind up ?

Looks like the Wagster was on the bus, but sat on the bench throughout (unless anyone knows otherwise) saving him Sen for the drive up to S2 in morning

Basically the Ipswich equivalent of James Shields saying he's in advance talks with Derby

No way they’re spending 8mil without selling unless they’re going for broke.

Going public has started a bidding war. Let’s win one for a change.

This would be a blow. But if Derby are truly interested they have the finances to blow us out of the water.

Really hope Nugent is nowhere near our thoughts if we do miss out on Waghorn. We have an ageing strike force as is and he offers nothing we don’t already have.

They're struggling with FFP. Spent a lot over the last few seasons and blown it.
