“I really enjoyed my time at Sheffield United; I was there for 13/14 years or so. When I turned 19, I turned down two contracts, because I was looking to go elsewhere, just purely to play football.

“I didn’t feel at the time, with the manager that was there, that I was going to get much playing time, and I knew that the contract was offered from the board really. As soon as the new manager came in, I thought ‘I wanna stay here, I wanna play for Sheff United, it’s the team I’ve grown up loving.’

“So I stayed there – this would have been the 2015/16 season – and I was told ‘bide your time, you’re gonna get in, you’re gonna get in,’ and there were quite a few teams from League Two who wanted to take me on loan, but the manager was basically reassuring me to stay and I’d play for Sheff United anyway. As the season went on, I could see that it wasn’t really happening.

“So if I could go back and change anything, I’d have got myself out on loan that season, because really it was just a wasted season in terms of getting first-team experience.

“I think with Sheffield United, it came out that the way they saw it, or however it was portrayed in the media, was that because I’d played for Italy I thought I was too good to play for Sheff United, with turning down the contracts. Nothing was money-based at all, though.

“I never asked for any more money; I just said I wanted to leave to play first-team football where I feel I’m going to be given a chance, as much as I wanted to stay there. Even when I spoke to fans, outside the stadium or at Meadowhall when I bumped into them, I told them the truth: I just wanted to play first-team football.

“Nothing to do with me thinking I was too big for the club or anything.”

Doesn't make sense.

He purely wants to play football but didn't go out on loan and stayed with us instead where he wasn't getting any game time

If the manager was saying he’s going to get an opportunity then you can’t blame him for staying and waiting for that opportunity rather than go to league 2 side.

He’s missed out the bit where he requested to be recalled from a very productive loan at relegation-threatened York so that he could be sent out to an unproductive loan at playoff-contenders Northampton.

He says that though.

...this is getting a bit like the lad at school who had ‘the best looking girlfriend’ only for her to dump him the day school finished....

He was either badly advised or believed his own hype or both. He had a lot of chances to go out on loan and get the first team experience.

I would think dropping all the way down to Buxton's level will hopefully build his character if he takes the chance seriously. Other players have done it and worked their way back.

Why?

He's a ex-blade, and he mentions Sheff Utd several times in the interview. I'd say that's the definition of blades related.

Not having a go at Sothall_Blade's post because it's a good one, but shite about McCuntly and I suspect this season, Evans is wholly irrelevant and I'm bracing myself for a lot of that this season.

My memories of Diego's last days with us were that he was chosen to play in a playoff (?) under 23 game against Huddersfield. Wilder and Knill were there and had just been appointed.

Neither Diego and Che Adams showed a great attitude that afternoon and it wasn't long after that both were shipped out.

He had a great opportunity that day to impress the new management team but messed up.

To my mind, discussion about Diego's performances at Buxton or Bristol City is "Other Football".
Reflections on his Blades career and how and why it ended is "General Blades Chat".

Same rules apply to McNulty, Ched Evans, Kyle Walker, Tony Currie, Fatty Foulkes etc...

Okay, I'll do it.....

When did McNulty, Ched or TC play at Buxton or Bristol City then?

A reflective piece which discusses Sheffield United as a club has some worth, which is why I said yours was a good post.

That's different to a thread about some ex nobody scoring for a different team, like McNulty for example.

Young school boy looks played well that game, as did Chris Hussey, believe it or not

I'm just going to float this idea again, granted I've been doing it for quite some time and it hasn't gained much traction, but maybe he just isn't very good?

Fair enough.

I agree that the inevitable McNulty threads don't belong on GBC.

Evans is still a United player though, so when people discuss his form, or he's mentioned on Roy's 'loan update' threads, there'll be no complaints from me.
