I'd have to say with recent transfer activity we are looking stronger everyday all clubs expected to be at the top are selling look at recent transfers :-

Bikey left reading
Duff left Newcastle (plus however many more)
Hugh and tuncay leaving Middlesborough

None of them seem to be replacing them you'd have to say out of the top 6 promotion contenders (Middlesborough, west brom, Newcastle, reading, Ipswich and us) we have made the better start ignore Port Vale a win tonight would send a real message don't you think?? or am i getting to excited to quickly??

Definitely too quickly ;) we've had a good start, but the league table doesn't even start to mean anything until about 10 games in.

fair enough to quickly but i like seeing all these clubs selling up and we don't hopefully no shocks on 31st August ( out that is )

I'd give it until the end of September. Tonight could be tougher than people think, we've then got Reading away, WBA at home, Derby and Coventry away followed by a certain other match. If we can get at least 12 points from these games it'll be a decent start but even though some teams are losing players, the division will still be as tight as ever.

No chance of promotion without strengthening the midfield and acquiring a full-time, quality goalkeeper.
None at all.

Despite having done quite well in our opening two fixtures, Lenners?

I'd say the problem's not necessarily strengthening the midfield per se, more using what we've got more effectively.

Howard can be the creative midfielder we've been crying out for if:

1. He's played at the side of Monty, and not Quinn.
2. He's given a decent run in the side to get his sharpness back.
3. We play it to feet rather than through the air.

If you don't like Howard, how about Hendrie? Or playing Little in the middle? There's no point just going out and buying midfielder after midfielder if the way we play is not right...

Blackie knew we were missing something hence Williamson. The wide players certainly give us something extra but that elusive playmaker remains exactly that although I agree that Howard hasn't really had a long run in the team and maybe he'll get that for the next couple of months.

Yes but to be fair - Reading were always going to struggle for mid-table this year and i'd say the same at least for Newcastle (prior to the season opener i had them on for relegation!)

I've got a couple of quid on the Toon going down at 20/1...

The way we play doesn't require a traditional playmaker, it requires strength and pace allied to an ability to pass.
Somebody in the Harper-type mould at Reading.

Lee Hendrie fits that role a far more acomplished player than Harper - and since when has been able to pass been part of the criteria - Monty gets by by sheer hard work and the ability of never finding a red and white shirt when he passes!

Hard to desribe how right you are about this lenners. GK is a major problem.

Harper is twice the player as is Monty. Hendrie's efforts for United are shamed tenfold by Monty's.
