I didn't mind the Star Wars music, we had it for so long it just seemed right to hear it for us.

Which is the Kill Bill track? Is it this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnfFTVjRpLI

Great track that is but I think I'd prefer that like it is at the mo, used in the build up to the game.

What was the entrance music they used yesterday? I recognised it instantly as a great song but now I can't think what it was!!

I liked the Rage Against The Machine track (Killing In The Name Of) that they used at the start of last season and then the Guns & Roses (Live & Let Die) track was fantastic.

Can't view you tube from here, but it's called Battle Without Honor Or Humanity.
RATM isn't a fav of mine but Star Wars is really poor, its not even the most appropriate from that series as Duel of the Fates would be more atmospheric..

But there must be something reasonably original that we could use.
Everyone uses the same themes, has anyone got anything original?

I alway's liked the song when I was younger when it was a proper song (1980), it was a good tune then. Nowadays I like it just for nostalgia purposes. I agree with Swissblade that it should have ended years ago, probably 2004 to be the last year, then choose another tune for the fans who are interested in the American culture way of sport which seems to happening to a lot of our sports at the moment.

P.S. In another thread I said about TC me being 3 1/2 yrs old, but I can remember on Radio Hallam one particular D.J. used to play-You can do magic by Limmie & the family cooking, everytime T.C. had scored or the Blades had won. Y not this song.

When this first started I used to like when the kids are United by Sham69. Also Who sung the song United which they used to play under Bassett, with this song at least we got promoted twice with it, and it wasn't a bad tune. Or could it be nostalgia again.

I think we're quite unique in what we used.

We used the kill bill instrumental many years before bloody X-Factor started using it.

Aside from burnley, we re-recording Tom hark and got that ball rolling and now you can barely go ot a modern sports ground without hearing it!

I've never heard another sports team come out to RATM...(my personal favourite) and we used Tiananmen the year before that which i really liked! (as i like the band anyway!)

I thought Star Wars was really good! (and was also unique).

Live and let die worked well but had the feeling of being used by other people!

I hate it when people suggest really cliched ones such as "simply the best" or "welcome to the jungle"

Tom Bloody Hark is responsible for the lack of atmosphere throughout the games, before Tom Hark, songs would be going continually throughout the game but now people only sing when they'r prompted, its a disgrace and it is completely gay. The kids will come to the games because theyr folks bring them. I cant see them saying I'm not going to the footy because they dont play a gay little tune after we score. Its bringing them up wrongly as well because when they are the adult fans they won't know how to sing without being prompted and the lane will be silent.

TOM HARK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't mind Rage Against The Machine to be honest ....

It always made me laugh when I heard Killing In The Name Of as the players ran out. In my head they'd bring Morgs out of the dressing room strapped to a trolley in a straight jacket with a Hannibal Lecter mask on. Then at the last minute they unleash him down the tunnel :D

Yet another example of the Americanisation of our culture! :(
Shouldn't that be Americanization? :D

I didn't mind RATM but at one point last season they let it run quite a long time - I was hoping and praying they played it to the end ;) :D

My official reply from Gary, I doubt he will mind me posting it on here.

ask the 24,000 who were doin 'it' what a better alternative is

We tried it without any celebration music and it's as flat as a fart

The kids love it and the chairman insists it's OUR song and we should stick with it

The NEW INTRO music will be the IGGY POP "Lust for Life " intro - hope you like that

was well impressed when I heard that on Sat

Blades coming out to Iggy - works for me.

Agreed re Tom Hark, get rid. Don't mind a bit of music in the build up, entrance music etc but anything during the match is contrived.

When I was a kid there was no music after a goal and it never stopped me going.

And while were at it can we get rid of that ridiculous mascot Captain Blade, he's had his fun now lets get rid. We've never had any success with him, I believe he's a bad omen or summat:thumbup:

Saw a kid at the Lion with a Captain Blade signed shirt. Was really unsure what to make if it - was it -
a - Refreshingly naive in these twisted times
b - Crushingly pathetic and in need of a slap
c - A particularly bizarre form of child abuse

Still not sure -

I think this works really well.

I still think the best way to celebrate a goal is to cheer/clap/go barmy and not to dance like a muppet. Maybe I'm getting old.

Abraham Lincoln once said that you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. Perhaps he should have added you can hardly ever please a Blade.

d - all of the above

Never understood the need for Captain Blade. We have Captain Morgan, surely a bottle of rum or a no nonsense centre half are more than enough for any kid to aspire to.

If I ever have kids they will guided towards heroes such as Morgs. I'll also never allow any kid of mine to wear blue boots, do a crap dance for a goal celebration etc etc

You miserable gits!
Tom Hark Brilliant
I would like to hear it 3 or 4 times every match!
Kids think its great! So do I

Why stop there? Why not play it during every stop in play?

My brother's kids love Hannah Montana too. Why not play that at five minute intervals throughout the game?

*holds head in hands in despair*

I always find myself clapping (sort of in time to Tom Hark) which probably makes me look a bit of a muppet as I am trying to celebrate yet find yself drawn in by the evil rumbling intro. Ban it I say!

Lust for Life is good as was Live and Let Die, but I think coming out to United by Judas Priest would at least be original (and bring back great memories of 1990).

Alternatively, the instrumental jamat the end of "I am the Resurrection" by The Stone Roses, or for a local flavour the start of "I Bet That you Look Good on the Dancefloor"?? And before anyone says it, yes I know most of them are pigs.......but it's a proper rousing intro..

Oh for f**** sake.

It's crappy and childish. You may as way play Baa Baa Black Sheep. Of course people are going to sing when we score, and if an infintile melody is blasting out through the speakers, people are going to sing along, not sing something completely different.

But the question is, are our supporters so crap that they need prompting to sing? We aspire to be a "big club". Do big clubs like Man U and Liverpool play Tom Hark after they score?

It smacks of a smalltown, provincial, Radio Hallam, mentality. It's awful, and needs to go.

It seems to be good enough for Twickenham...mind you...small town teams play there...

Point in hand....there was a cock-up at the Port vale game - start of second half and they played the wrong tune (instead of Annie's song) and that pre-match dance one started and got quickly cut....did the blades all sing annies song anyway....did they bollocks!

Only the hardcore did but it was piss poor and not nearly as impressive as whn 26000 blades are all united at once....it's tremendous! and intimidating as hell for opposing fans/players...

I see Der Der Der as a bit of the same. sure i dont lik eit but it unites (most of) the ground into mental applause and dancing...Unfortunately, the sports moved on and the whole "americaniZation" argument doesn't cut the turd with me because they're hardley poor, underwatched sports over there....they're all succesful franchises who embrace families into their clubs.

English football is no longer a "working mans" game...pity the fool who still believes that! It's about families and the clubs that try and get families on board are the ones building fan bases for the future and the ones who will survive financially - hence captain blade for the very young'uns and der der der for a united sense of "fuck you we just scored!"

Couldn't agree more however .......

Taking our little 'un tonight to her 1st ever match . Tom Hark is probably the thing she'll remember and enjoy most and may make her want to come back .

In a few years time all the kids who love it will be on here moaning about stuff not being like it was in their day, its just how it is.

I hate it but I'm willing to put up with it until its replaced by some other latest big idea .

So I can take it that this particular Blade will raise no objections whatsoever when the Blades franchise is bought and moved to Edinburgh and becomes Edinburgh United FC nickname: The Claymores?

Surely not, after all that is the American way and if we're in for a penny....err cent we're in for a dollar!

The Tom Hark is there for the kids and if they like it then fair enough....

...There is just a time and a place.

Don't play it when we're behind, just drawn level or edging a one goal lead.

Play it when we're battering a team.

sounds like a good compromise! i don't particularly mind it, but only really for nostalgia, rather than for the song itself. i wouldn't really miss it, and it could always make a cameo appearance every now and again

South Essex Blade - now you're being daft for the sake of it surely.

That's is one unfortunate extreme of the American franchise system but it only happens when the fan base is no longer there and home attendances have dropped so significantly that they are losing money and are in danger of liquidation.

What i was referring to are things like "Bat Days" at Baseball games (where they give away free bats to everyone), T-Shirt Guns throwing stuff into the crowd. Bigger sponsorship deals for pretty much everything (something i dont agree with incidentally but gotta take the good with the ugly)

Playing music at certain times is fine by me as there's still an awful lot of fans that would rather sit quietly and offer "encouragement" to monty when he mislays a pass (or usually before he's even had a chance to pass it!)

So long as it doesn't reach Ice-Hockey levels where every stoppage in play is greeted by Status Quo and other songs also seen in Sofa advertisements...i'm happy with how things are.

I almost thing that the run out song is a statement of intent...hence a good one is needed...one that should add to an atmosphere and help lift the players heartbeat a wee bit more....

Hell i'd love it if the crowd were singing so much and so ooudly that the music could be tirned off....but they wont so it wont...and i'd LOVE to be proved wrong on that one!

Not daft for the sake of it. Maybe being a little extreme, but we've had one instance of it with Wimbledon/ MK Dons and I can see another attempt with a larger club in the near future.

The problem with this sort of thing is that when it is introduced it only ever grows and never diminishes or disappears. Personally I loathe and detest all 'American' sports and how they are presented, and the 'atmosphere generators' are just the thin end of the wedge. Stupid big sponge hands, 'themes' for each player/event/incident, scantily-clad cheerleaders (actually that is quite good ;) ), mascots, half-time entertainment and the next step will be 4 quarters. You can see a slow gradual move towards making the traditional game of football into soccer!

Now I realise that it is like trying to hold back the tide, trying to stop this country becoming the 51st state. But be warned! The once majestic and all-conquering West Indies cricket team was totally dismantled within two decades almost wholly due to the screening of the NBA. Every kid stopped wanting to be Viv Richards or Curtley Ambrose and instead wanted to be Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson.

The atmosphere generators are in American sports as American sports are so dull and boring they need something else added whereas footy is an entertaining game in itself and doesn't need any daft gimmicks. Also Americans have extremely low attention thresholds and always need something else to occupy their minds.

You say they only move the team as a last resort when the fan base has dried up which probably happens when the locals are sick of all the crap tunes and commercialisation and stop going.

Tom Hark reminds me of the Steelers and that is where we're headed. Infact look at the Steelers - As a sport Ice hockey could have lots going for it but they branded it as a family sport presumably so they could generate a fan base but as it is when people get over a certain age they think its crap and just for the kids and stop going. Also I'm pretty sure theyr not the Sheffield Steelers anymore and have indeed moved

I honestly couldn't care less what they play when we score. I'm always shouting and waving my arms around anyway, so the music makes little or no different to me. And at least it means we've scored, I guess.

Point in hand....there was a cock-up at the Port vale game - start of second half and they played the wrong tune (instead of Annie's song) and that pre-match dance one started and got quickly cut....did the blades all sing annies song anyway....did they bollocks!

Well it wouldn't have been would it, seeing as there were only 7,000 odd in the ground.

Listen, it's not even debatable

TOM HARK IS SHIT - GET RID NOW!!!
