If only one could happen which would you choose?

Not even a contest, Blades all the way. Having posed this question to various supporters of other clubs though I have been surprised how many opt for England, and these aren't from successful clubs either.

Personally I am lukewarm at best about England, always have been. Any satisfaction I get from this team winning is based on the Ex Blades factor and some of the cuntish opponents they are likely to face and have already faced.

Depends if we'll actually have a crack at surviving though and not play for a fucking draw at Villa Park...

I'd like England to win the World Cup to be honest, I was born in 85' and these chances don't come by very often.

I would rather see United succeed any day.

I support England, always have done for my sins, don't get me wrong, especially this young Southgate England without Joe Bastard Hart in the net, but they're a distant second in my affections behind the Blades.

I’m tempted to say England. Just because the odds of it happening in my lifetime are so slim, whereas I’ve seen Utd go up to the top flight twice.

Contrarian bastard I am.

Contrarian bastards have short life-spans, so you may be right! Hopefully not though. I reckon we'll see both things happen, England win the World Cup and Blades promoted next season.

And the hot summer weather will continue until December 25th as well.

Not at all surprised by the tide of comments opting for a Blades promotion. I think a general overview is that the biggest England fans come from the backwoods of league football. Any club with a deep sense of history (and not necessarily successful i.e - us, for instance), the fans will always put club before country. You only have to look at the localised banners at England games to see this, I saw one with "Stourbridge Massive" the other day!

England to win the World Cup. I am a mad unitedite but I have seen two promotions from United.

If the question was England world cup win versus Sheff United FA Cup win it may be different - the Hull semi final lives long in my memory.

Sheffield United have the opportunity to gain promotion every year (unless in the Premier League of course, but that would deem the question irrelevant). I'm relatively young and I've seen it twice.

England only get the chance to win the World Cup once every four years. Many people in their 50's can't remember the last time it happened.

Even though I'm club before country, it absolutely has to be the World Cup. It's not like we're France, Germany or Brazil where the chance will pop up quite regularly. It's England who've been shit for years. I can't even imagine the celebrations if they were to win the fucker. It'd be incredible.

Before anyone claims that I'm not club before country for thinking this, if the same question was posed about the Euros then it'd 100% be a United promotion. The Euros are a bit like Gogglebox - it's alright to watch, but it's hardly summet you really look forward to seeing.

Neither. Because:

a) England are shit
b) United can't get promoted because if we pay anyone more than £8k pw it will upset the "harmony" in the squad and we have to keep selling our best players because we are not expert accountants.

I get what you're saying but England should have won the world cup plenty of times with the players we've had in various tournaments, they're just underachievers, we should be like Germany at least, Brazil are potentially on a different level depending who's in their team but I think the England are underdogs thing comes from us continually not turning up or bad management rather than being wank.

We're quality all the way through, there are more successful teams, or teams that are seen as favourites or big teams that aren't nearly as well equipped as we are. We've got a player that was in the Champions League final sat on the bench with an extremely slim chance of getting any more match time for example.

Agree. Promotion to the PL would be good but once the novelty wears off and we’re mid table for a couple of seasons everyone will get bored. Ask me if I’d rather England win the WC or Blades win a proper trophy, it’s Blades every time.

England to win the world cup for me. Promotion to the prem would be great but we will never go on to win it I feel, so would get boring after a couple of years, having a chance to see us win the world cup with my football mad 7 year old son, every day.

FA Cup win, different question :D

Likelihoods are not equal. England winning a WC has always seemed an absolute pipe dream - still is.

Totally understand those that don't give a shit about the national team for whatever reason but I'd absolutely love to see it more than Blades getting (back) to the prem.

Completely agree. I've caught the bug of this WC thanks to the feel-good factor across the country. Plus as I'm mates with a mix of Blades, Pigs, Leeds, Chesterfield, Glory Hunting fans etc so it's quite refreshing to have a common ground for a month and forget about club football.

I'd always say that I'm club before country. I'm far more bothered about United than I am England. Controversially, I'm not always that wildly patriotic if I'm honest. I'm fiercely proud to be from Sheffield and from Yorkshire, but don't identify as strongly with being English. Maybe it's because there's much we do at a national level that I don't agree with - let's unpick that another time - I'm going wildly off piste here.

Anyways, the point I was originally making is that I'm hugely club before country, but there's something about this England squad that has really caught my attention. Previous squads were a bit of a circus of big names, overpaid egos, who didn't gel and brought too much celebrity magazines related guff. This lot are different. A hardworking, hungry young bunch who play for one another, with an honest, likeable manager with bags of integrity and a way that he wants to play. I'm very proud of them and there's lots of similarities between United's recent transformation and England's.

Sod it, to answer the OP - both.

UTB, it's coming home.

In order of preference:

1) Blades win Premier League
2) Blades win FA Cup
3) England win World Cup
4) Blades get promoted

Obviously we’d need to get promoted to win the PL or even realistically the FA Cup, but if it were simply a case of getting promoted to have a few seasons finishing mid table in the PL, I’d take England winning the World Cup every time.

I’d sooner the Blades be relegated than England win the World Cup! :)

Seriously, the country is deluding itself. Not surprising since the majority are self-evidently fucking idiots.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth. “England’ have had a very favourable draw. They will not win the fucking World Cup. They are not ‘quality’. They are as shite as ever.

Anyone thinking differently, I’ll take your money if you want a bet. Now calm down and prepare to remove the ridiculous car flags for another couple of years.

Blades promotion. England win world cup in 2012 with 6 Blades players in the squad .

Tough one. Blades promotion, but can England also get to the W/C final and lose well, perhaps in a penalty shootout?
