He has developed incredibly and it's fantastic to see.

For a start, just look at his body FFS! He's a genuine athlete!
True that, he has clearly had some very good advice and coaching about his body as he's matured. He's still not got much pace, but his athleticism is a large notch above when he was here (not a criticism btw, he was a young lad and just developing)

It depressed me so much watching towd Harry I switched the TV off . I don't think I can bear England being successful with ex-blades in the side . McCabe you bloody bastard, if you are watching this I hope you choke on your martini

Sorry but Kane was far and away England's best player. Held the ball up amazingly well, won countless fouls (including the penalty he then scored) and was an outlet all evening (until being moved from the centre forward position which was bizzarre).

Kane is the only genuinely world class English footballer at present.

Maguire was excellent though!
If you judge the only world class footballer In the England side as Kane then so far in this World Cup ,England have played against no World Class players.
So, it maybe your chance to judge who is actually a World class player left in this World Cup. Please tell us who?

Love Harry to bits , really happy for him to see what a class player he has become , and anyone who couldn't see this when he played for us doesn't know about football .
Another player we have sold tho , its just what we do , sell our best players , we have to face the facts thats how we operate as a club !!
Got to love old Ian Wright as well talking about the Blades and Harry too .

At least 3 bookable offences for our Harry, but thankfully we've got past the most cynical test that he might face (until a possible Brazil final)
So please tell us all how many bookable offences were committed by the South Americans or do you just accept that as part of their footballing culture and you make allowances for that?

League One with his class he's about the only one I don't begrudge leaving, he put a shift in for us and deserved better frankly.

Now though, we're top 10 championship, anyone like him comes along again we need to be keeping them, or getting more than we did for Harry.

Absolutely made up for him though, good lad, top Blade. Think he'll be part of a future Man City Yorkshire back 3 winning the lot soon.

Off the top of my head (as I'm about to sleep), Luca Modric (multiple time champions league & La Liga winner), Ivan Rakitic (champions league winner and multiple la Liga titles) Neymar (multiple domestic and international titles) and Coutinho (although only 1 title, has 'performed' at the top level... Which is kind of my point).

Do you know we have just sold Brooks ???

Ah so I get you now. IN A World Cup with Eight teams we have left in, we have only Four world class players to point to? Oh and Mr Kane of course.

England world cup matches are a rare commodity where you can go to the pub with your piggy supporting mates and cheer on the same team......
How fucking sweet is it to be saying gooooo onnn Harry or gooooo onnn Kyle whenever they stride forward and then take a glance at your porky mates who are clearly jealous as fuck and can’t say a word :p:p
LOVE IT!!!

Even when England win that bastard McCabe pops up and ruins things.

Praising an academy success at a World Cup isn't enough for some. Rather than take pleasure in it, some can still only gripe at the club, not realising the threads about Harry. Not them. Should be "look at Harry" not "look at me" but that's a step too far I suppose.

Hoddle praised him throughout the game.

Perhaps more importantly than what anyone on here thinks, it would appear that Southgate rates him highly and as a centre back himself, will know what he brings to the team. I'd be interested in what sitwell thought of his performance, as another defender.

MaGuire not Kane (although he was pretty good). For me our Harry was head and shoulders the best player on the park, what a fantastic footballing CB. We saw his potential at the Lane but how he's developed is incredible. Possibly the best England CB since Moore.
The Italian commentators loved him and were constantly referring to Sheffield United when they mentioned him.

Just think where we would be if we kept all of our young prospects instead of making a fast buck.

And how do you force a player to sign a new contract? And what would you do as they approach their last year?? Just let them walk away as their value diminished?

And when we did have them we wasted shit loads of money on shit players surrounding them!! The consequence of that being we needed to find money to stop the club going under!!
We sold Walker too soo but HM had decided he had to go for his career. He made the right decision. He certainly wouldn’t be playing for England if he’d stayed at the Lane that’s for sure. Because he simply cannot influence a game enough from CB to have singlehandedly got us to the premier league.

So I’m afraid you need to get a reality check Bruce, because you are spouting bollocks. In fact, most of your posts seem to be that way thinking about it.

A fantastic bit of whataboutery from you there.

The point is not that the Colombians played dirty (which they did), but that Harry could have picked up a needless suspension.

I delight in all ex Blades who do well and play for England. It’s a fact of life that when clubs come round with bundles of cash and players are egged on by their agents they move on. It is a fact of life and although it grates on me ( I can still feel angry about the sales of Jones and Birchenall) it doesn’t stop my enjoyment of seeing them pull on an English shirt.

Whataboutery the fact that he didn't.
Could've, would've, should've.

In the week we've sold Brooks, it brings home the reality of football. At least we got decent money for DB but would Kyle and 'arry have progressed so far with United in the Championship or Division One? It's only fair to let them go - 'bird in a gilded cage' and all that - they've developed because they're surrounded by better players.

Re. England last night, Colombia would have been at home in Revie's Leeds, but I'm afraid we've reached #peaksouthgate and have much sterner tests ahead.

He's establishing a worldwide reputation for himself now.

I've said it plenty of times before but the top clubs were complete mugs for not paying the £17m for him last summer.

They were even bigger mugs for not paying the 2 million United wanted. They're mugs now for not paying the 12 million for David Brooks.None of this is hindsight from me or Tony Currie, who by the way has proved himself a good judge of a player down the years..As for people saying "Harry has developed"...He's doing nothing now that he wasn't doing in 2013; he's just proving it at a higher level against better players..

Ok then, as this was very quick before sleep, we also have Suarez, Cavani, Griezmann, Pogba, Kante, Marcelo, Gabriel Jesus, Willian, De Bruyne, Lukaku, Hazard, Courtois, Kompany & Mario Mandzukic. This obviously doesn't include the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Higuain, Aguero, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Marco Reus, Toni Kroos etc etc.

All of these players have WON something in their careers (usually multiple times) and PERFORMED (rather than just played) at the very top level.

So that would be like Walker and Vardy and Stones and Delph and Lingard. obviously world class players because they have WON something in their careers.
I'm sure Ive missed a few?

5Live talking this morning that Maguire has what it takes to be England captain, if it wasn't for Kane.

I think Harry Maguire could well be the captain even if Kane is around.

I agree with everything you're saying, but still don't think he can be categorised as world class just yet. At the minute, he's performing for his country in the world cup (excellently), as have the likes of Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos and Mats Hummels in the past.

The difference between Maguire and the 3 mentioned, is these 3 have done it consistently, for years, against the best of the best in multiple competitions (domestic and international). Literally the ONLY reason I don't consider Maguire to be world class just yet is experience and subsequently performances against the elite.

He's a certainty to be named in the FIFA world XI (by better judges than you) at the end of the competition. Maybe that will change your mind a little bit.
