If we are going to push the boat out in a striker I'd prefer someone who has a track record of goalscoring. DCL doesn't.

Were he available for loan, I think he’d be an excellent addition for this level. You’d be mad to think that not being prolific for a reasonable Premier League team like Everton rules him out of being of use at our level, and his basic attributes (pace, strength, movement) are ones that would definitely add to the squad.

For those that think a season of not scoring many at Everton is a good indicator of what they can bring to the Championship, Beattie joined us following a miserable season where he scored 2 in 15 starts and 18 sub appearances – both penalties. As a comparison, at the same level that season Christian Nade managed 3 goals from 7 starts (plus 18 sub appearances)...

Beattie had scored freely for Southampton for several seasons prior to signing for Everton. He had 60 odd PL goals. DCL has 10 league goals in 70 odd league games, 5 of which were in league two.

Indeed – Southampton would also be an excellent career move for DCL.

He did fairly well for them in the end. If there was a loan, I would assume it would be to a lower Premier League team.

Can someone help me out here. When I read people’s comments on DCLs Pace I don’t recall him being lightening. Did I miss something?

This deal now looking more likely

I'd be delighted to eat these words, but there's absolutely NO CHANCE of this happening. We've probably (cheekily) asked a question of Everton.

Kids played majority of a PL season. On wages we can't afford. Been involved in as many goals as Rashford. Got heaps of potential (don't forget Kane didn't start scoring until 22 years old).

Then there's the other interested parties in the Prem. The personal incentive not to be seen to be taking a backward step and the fact that every championship club would have him.

With all of the above, I don't get comments like this. He's done well - granted hasn't set the world alight - in a prem club. If we signed him it would be a HUGE coup.

Good news at last if true. I think DCL would be a quality addition to the squad. What really interests me though is which club is going to loan or sell us a player who scored 20 goals for them last season as some think should be the preferred alternative?

Unfortunately I don't see DCL being the answer. I hope I'm wrong

As a squad player fair enough, but unless he starts hitting the net regularly, I can't see him being a starter

Personally mate, I think you're mad ! ;) He'd walk into our side, not maybe as the main striker, but alongside someone else, Gallagher perhaps. He will be so much better than he was when he left us, you won't recognise him. Would be a top loan signing in my book.

opinions Mark, opinions

CW had him on loan at Northampton and didn't seem so fussed about keeping him when he came to the Lane.
Would seem that he is not CW's type of player?

Would seem like he was one of Wilders few mistakes?

Everton fans have the full scale of opinions - from 'He's League 1 level to 'He's been one of out best performers and has a bright future' - as a striker he really needs to add consistent goals to his game, saying that, if he did he wouldnt be linked with loan moves.

I’d rather stick with Clarke and Sharp for another season than bring DCL back

I don't know if it's academy/ex academy lads just reading it on here and getting 2 + 2 = 5, or whether they know somat, but they are apparently messaging DCL saying welcome home

Not if you look at the bigger picture, which was we needed to bring some money in to finance signings like JOC, Fleck, Duffy, Clarke etc. These signings ultimately got us out of League 1, personally I don't think we would have if we'd be relying on DCL to score the goals alongside Billy without the midfield his ale helped create.

Last season stats:

32 games, 5 goals, 7 assists. A fair few of those were from the bench. The expectation would be that he'll improve this season.

On the one hand, he gives us something we haven't got. A bit of pace and decent in the air. He doesn't score that much but does create as well. Everton were a shitshow in attack last season, so hard to judge.

On the other, he seemed like a player, like Brooks, who wouldn't fit into the way we play.

I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if he came on loan.
