Bramall Lane and the 2030 World Cup

I thought I heard that the other day when they were discussing that ground with the Gillingham-esque stands behind each goal, but the only information I found when I searched said 40k.

If it's 35k then all we'd need to do would be do the Kop roof and add those seats at the back, which we should be doing anyway.

Never happen anyway for reasons outlined but I do wonder what the capacity for these 'fan parks' needs to be. Would the U-Mix centre five minutes walk away from the ground would suffice, I wonder? Or Millennium Park?

Fuck knows, I think they just make it up as they go on.

Australasia has never hosted a World Cup yet so they are over due one and if 2030 goes to Uruguay/ Argentina then they would be favourites to host in 2034.

Never said that either. it’s likely that if Australia is getting one, which FIFA have said they would like to see, the first opportunity for that would be 2034 if Uruguay/Argentina is getting 2030. Making it more likely that Europe or Africa would need to wait until 2038.

You're implying that Uruguay /Argentina 2030 is a given which it definitely isn't. The main selling point of their bid is based on it being the centenary of the first WC (which is actually fuck all to do with Argentina) but that doesn't mean they'll get it. England/UK will definitely try for 2030.

If it's going to go on centenaries I can't wait for Switzerland 2054. Unfortunately I'll probably be dead by the time England host it in 2066

I think Abu Dhabi have already 'won' the competitive bidding process for 2066. FIFA broke their continental switching policy by having the 2050, 2054, 2058 and 2062 WCs in Saudi Arabia.

Then again I suppose they had already established the precedent by allowing China to host it in 2034, 2038, 2042, and 2046.

I thought the same...and wouldn't you want those 20k fans along with the 40k at the stadium coming into the City Centre to spend money to boost business,rather than suburban park.
The fans park excuse is a joke..you could have a fans park nearer the City Centre like the Ponderosa, and the Lane would make far more sense for it's central location.

The fan park is somewhere for fans to gather before going to the game. They can have big screens etc for others to watch somewhere in the city centre.

In 2006 Frankfurt had several. The one we went to was away from the stadium. At Nuremberg there was one right next to the stadium (but I think they had big screens in the square too). In Koln, the one we went to wasn’t near the stadium but quite near the centre.

That was my thought, i know a Blade who was involved and it was widely accepted Bramall Lane offered everything else but the location to 'too city centre' with no viable option for a Fanzone.

Another free Stadium upgrade for the Pigs as well.

Don’t see any reason why Hillsborough Park couldn’t be used with Bramall Lane. That way it’s not clogging up the city centre. Or Graves, Meersbrook etc. Doesn’t need to be right by the ground for me. It rarely is abroad. Just excuses for them all being pigs if you ask me

Pigs on the committee panicked desperate to find an excuse not to give it us as palms were being greased by Richards and Co. Incredibly the fans park was accepted as a valid fail when it was obvious there were plenty of places near BDTBL that could have provided an acceptable venue.

We won’t get it, but neither will the unclean for a couple of reasons.
1.) It will be a British, possibly British and Irish bid due to the way the hosting is going, and to ensure it gets enough votes.
2.) The stadia picked will have to be 50k plus and no stadium from Sheffield will have this.
At least 3 if not 4 from London; Arsenal, Spurs, Wembley plus maybe Chelsea if they eventually do the upgrades will all be good shouts.
2 from Manchester, 2 from Liverpool, 2 from Glasgow plus Murrayfield, Newcastle, Cardiff, Avivia Stadium. That’s 14. Assuming there aren't any major expansions outside of this collective, the next lot would be Sunderland (nice tie in with Newcastle), then Villa Park, and then you are onto those picked for geography and I'd say an extended King Power stadium or possibly Derby, would pip somewhere like Elland Road as would Molineux which I think is very likely to be expanded and included.
So that's 18, 19 maybe 20 potential grounds before you get to the likes of Elland road, or the rusty bucket, but given how easily we can get to several of the others I'd still put an expanded Southampton ahead of them.
In short, unless we're looking at the number of grounds the 2028 bid is considering, and given that this is unlikely as we don't have 20+ grounds with 50k capacities, neither Sheffield stadium will host a match in my opinion, unless either of us has a highly unlikely upgrade in the next 3-4 years.

Thought Richards had gone by then and it was Strafford who made a late bid despite not having the finances in place to redevelop the ground, believing SCC would end up paying. Despite the FA rule stipulating clubs needed to finance developments themselves without council assistance.

Norfolk Park is a far better bet than HP. Especially with those 10000 pig hooligans hanging around a few hundred yards away.
