Bramall Lane and the 2030 World Cup

It seems that England (possibly Britain) are going to bid for the 2030 World Cup, and early indications are that we are in with a real chance of getting it.
How likely would it be that Bramall Lane could host some matches? There will be 48 teams and 80 games by then in an expanded World Cup.
I guess Hillsborough would be ahead of us (sadly!) but surely there is a chance both grounds could feature, especially if we get into the Premier League and develop our stadium.
It would also fit in nicely with the Prince's role in Saudi Arabia's 2030 strategy.

They should go for the 2038 World Cup - there will be 212 teams, Scotland will be independent and we will have closed the border and won't want anything to do with them and Hillsborough will be being redeveloped as student accomodation after they've gone bust three times after sinking into the conference.
Of course the Prince and McCabe will still be fighting over ownership, possibly plugged into machines facing each other in Northern General, but we should still get a game or two.

Fuck the World Cup. I'm in the ageing category of fans too and before I peg it would prefer to see United actually win something at the Lane rather than get all excited at the prospect of watching Iran vs Morocco.

It won't. In the Sheffield bidding the council will favour Hillsborough but the decision for the regional bid will go to Leeds as is usually the case. At least we would be able to blame the council and the pigs for fucking things up again.

Sadly I think you're right. Wednesday always will have the advantage over us here because as a club they always seem to have more favour from the powers that be local Council, FA etc. The 2018 bid shows that. Saying that if they don't get any financial assistance to improve their rust bucket than I'm not so sure the present owner will want to spend millions on Hillsborough - he hasn't so far has he.

Megacity Leeds has a population of 5 million, don't you know.

Possibly not. In the last bidding the FA were looking to spread it out geographically and places like Plymouth were introduced to the mix.

I can’t see any justification for handing out free upgrades. We already have enough decent stadia to not have to give money to clubs to do up their grounds.

Yes, given the fallout from that I don’t see it happening again. Although we didn’t already have a world class athletics stadium in London so it was necessary to build one. As I’ve said, we already have enough decent football grounds so it’s not justifiable.

Exactly. The FA's skint, the government's skint, the council's skint, the pigs are skint, no ones going to be doling out £30-40m to upgrade that ruin when you have modern stadia all over the country. That's why in my opinion Sheffield will end up with zilch if they favour the pigs.

Bramall Lane will be a 50k stadium by then anyway after Wilder wins us the European Cup in 2024.

We've no chance. The city council is infested with pigs, and even if we were in the PL, with a 50,000 seater stadium, and they were in the conference playing in pigsborough park, they will ALWAYS get the nod. Sadly, we have to accept that the powers that be in our city hate us, and love the filth, so we'll always play second fiddle on the world stage
