Speaking as confirmed geriatric, I rather like the term 'Ladies'. To me it offers a degree of respect, very often undeserved it has to be said.
‘Ladies” is respectful but it’s a condrascending word re-affirming that they are the weaker/ fairer sex.
But “gentlemen” is also respectful we we don’t use that word in football.
Both words “ladies” and “gentlemen” are quite old fashioned and not used so much these days.
Tend to be used for older people, like a men’s crown green bowling team would be called”gentleman” and the women “ladies”.
