Would we spend £5 million on one player?

That could be our entire budget so doubt it will happen.

£5 million on one player!!!.
No chance as that's our budget for the next 5 seasons. lol
Wilder has already stated that it won't be multi million pound players that he brings in!. UTB

I think the entire strop Tufty has thrown has been about this subject.

I genuinely believe we were so restricted last Summer as r'Kev was worried about getting relegated.

Now it looks like we'll be challenging for promotion, I'm assuming we'll be more speculative with what we do.

I can see us spending that kind of fee if Tufty is certain the player is worth it...

Hope we because I want us to sign Blackman and there's no chance we'll spend 7.5mil on 2 players.... Infact I nearly giggled writing that it's so ridiculous

What do we reckon?

I think each owner has chucked £5m into the kitty plus whatever CW raises from sales and saves on wages
I think £10m sounds about right. Last season was a freebie wasn’t it due to sell on fees being recouped.

We have a mid table budget (wages) there’s no mention we have millions to spend.

Although our budget will most likely be the bottom one of the mini mid table standings (That’s a mouthful). We won’t be spending the fees being thrown around for players like £5million for a league one player.

I would..not too sure about Princey/McCabe... #otherpeoplesmonehetc

Has he? I heard him say we’re not going to blow teams out of the water... but even still this I thought sounded positive as it sounded like he was talking about a top 10 budget. Which reasonably fits with 10mill-ish.

Although I agree actually writing it feels a bit redic.

One aspect of this (if true) which people may not have considered, is that a bigger budget will mean more departures. Perhaps even of players we currently expect to keep.

Does this ease Sharp towards the exit? Perhaps Basham? Any player next in the queue behind the obvious departures will become upgradeable.

I think we could but it would be equalivent of man utd & liverpool spending 80m on lukaku & van dijk. ive said that i guess our transfer budget probally around 10m

Why not? I should imagine it will be in the region of 10 to 15 million. 4 quality signing needed at least to compete in the top 6.

Can't see us parting with 5 million straight away.

But could be over a few seasons like a lot of football transfers now a days or a part ex.

Most of our budget needs to go on strikers though tbh. The rest of the squad did amazingly well but my god we missed our fair share of absolute sitters. We seem to need 10 clear chances to score where as the top 6 only needed a couple.

Being Cynical (and knowing the blades way), I would guess that our budget is about 5m in total, so I wouldn't want to blow it all on one player ;)

We can't pay £5m on a player as his wages would be at least £20k plus which causes a misbalance in the squad. The exact thing he warned about last season. You would then have to improve the contracts of Fleck, O'Connell to suit.

With the state of how clubs run their football clubs we should be able to get some quality players costing less than £5m and afford better loans

Being optimistic (it’s The New Blades Way) I reckon both owners have chucked in £10m each...they were both saying they should do something like that...that’ll give CW something in the region of £12m for transfers. So yes, £5m on one player is a possibility but he would have to be a very good addition/fit. I can see Marriott just about fitting that brief. Although if we can do a part-exchange so much the better.

I know knob-all about the lad, so I consulted our old friend YouTube...

Extremely difficult to tell how good he is from that. A lot of goals but only looks as good as our Billy. Suppose there's room for improvement at his age.

Anybody know how good he really is? Would he be worth the money if indeed we had it?

My experience in the last few years is that so many players have a good highlights reel that it's not a great indication of their overall standard. On the other hand, very tidy finisher in that clip. We could do an awful lot worse than a younger Billy Sharp. When we're playing well we create a lot of chances and what we really need more than anything is a reliable finisher. That's why Clarke has pulled out 19 goals when everyone thought the guy's career was over. We make our strikers look good and a quicker version of Sharp or Leon would do very well for us.

A £5 player is going to deman about 20k week which I think we could just about manage.
The problem is we are going to need to buy at least 3 new players this summer. It's hard to tell which positions we could cover with loans but with a keeper and left back being priority it's already looking like the best part of 3m quid will be needed there.
There's no way on earth we'd spend £5m AFTER we spend the reported £2.5 on Blackman.
Being a kid the Blackman fee could be as low as a million originally with add ons galore afterwards for appearances etc.
Who knows though, we could get a Mitrovic type loan striker and not need to pay a transfer fee at all for our front man.
