What becomes of Billy Sharp?

Sharp can still be a 'kingmaker' in league 1, can somebody afford that (fee) and to give Sharp a better deal than he's on at the lane? If so I'd say he's best getting the last of the money he can from the system, he'll be a rich man but it can still all be gone in the wink of an eye. He still has a place at United but must consider his own options too.

Sharp and Clarke are our only two capable forwards at this level.
He stays as long as he wants to, simple.

We won't be able to afford to replace them so it's a case of a loan and a gamble.

I'd gamble on Eisa at Cheltenham, who won't be too costly and has scored a lot of goals.
And hopefully be able to loan in someone along the lines of Sam Baldock after the disaster that was James Wilson.

That would give us 4 strikers + Brooks. And then Evans to hang around the place.

This has a very James Wallace esque air of misplaced confidence. Let’s not raise expectations – at this stage it’ll be a bonus if he at least returns to some level of fitness. He then faces the additional hurdle of becoming a decent Championship striker. I’ll be delighted if he achieves both – but at this stage, very surprised.

Sensible comments minus emotional attachments. I've never been one to criticise Billy but also don't see him as a demi god either. As noted above he'll be 33 soon so it would be just plain idiotic to pin our hopes on him. We need at least an equal in the squad, not someone as "back-up", I'm sick of hearing that fucking word as it's just another term for not good enough. We need to look at this in the cold light of day and then play whoever is on form or whoever is more suitable against a particular opposition next season once we have the resources.

can't see Billy dropping off. he has never relied on pace to start with. he is one of those people that is always in the right place at the right time. you can't teach that.

Carry on as you are Billy. I am proud of what being a blade means to him and the charity work he does.

Taking sentiment away, he was our best player in our last home game so should be treated with a little more respect than he gets off some on here. His goalscoring rate was not too different to Leon Clarke and actually scored 1 in 2.

Clearly a daft suggestion as the lad has never managed, so taking on two roles would be nigh on impossible.

The obvious solution is to sack CW and make Billy manager for life. That he will give him plenty of time to learn and after 20 years or so he should be able to put a run together to get us out of the Bostick. Then we start the big push for Champions League silverware.....

He is still more than capable for this season, a leader who will run through brick walls for the shirt and a very good finisher. He'll bag a few important goals IMO.
