No real surprises for me it has to be said , if we could bring in one or two quality players at this level in exchange for above I’d be happy , all of above have played their part to some extent with the odd exception, so a thanks good luck

"The following have been made available..."

Fixed.

I thought Long and Reed were out of contract anyway this Summer along with Hussey who doesn't seem to be on that list ? No surprises really.

There will be some additions to the squad during the summer. I expect a goalkeeper, a centre back and three strikers to be added

As the current squad is for the moment (am excluding those available for loans/transfers)

Goalkeepers:

Simon Moore
Jake Eastwood

Defenders:

Chris Basham
Kieron Freeman
Daniel Lafferty
Jack O'Connell
Enda Stevens
Jake Wright
George Baldock
Richard Stearman

Midfield:
David Brooks
Paul Coutts
Mark Duffy
John Fleck
John Lundstram
Ryan Leonard
Lee Evans
Regan Slater

Strikers:
Leon Clarke
Ched Evans
Billy Sharp
Ricky Holmes

I'd have kept Long based on the reviews but let Eastwood go based on what I'd seen.

I was thinking we might get another LB but with Lafferty staying it seems Chris is content with his options there.
Agree on the keeper but think 2 strikers should be enough, assuming we keep Brooks as the other option up top.

Wonder what we paid for Carruthers ? something happened there as he has talent and Karl Robinson thought he was superman and creamed himself when he thought he was going to Charlton !

Unfortunately due to the insults he has had to take over the past years from so called Blades fans, I think it was unrealistic to think he could ever play for us again. Which is a shame really.

I'd have kept Long based on the reviews but let Eastwood go based on what I'd seen.

Eastwood is similar to Long but without the over-exposure to first team football. Eastwood needs another loan spell next season; Long needs to rebuild his career away from the Lane - which I have no doubt that he will do.

Maybe Wilder thinks that Stevens will have benefited from the amount of outings he had and will come back next season stronger for the experience.

You've also got to manage the people side of things. He might not want to splash the cash on getting someone perceived better than Enda, and if Lafferty is happy being back up, then he might not want the hassle of just swapping one back up for another.

Same goes for Wright. If we might not have the cash to improve on Stearman, then having a solid pro who won't let you down, but knows he won't feature that frequently isn't the worst.

Let's suppose money is tight.

With Basham and O'Connell playing well, you might get away with what we have. The experience will make them all better next year. You could also shove Leonard in there if Stearman is out, maybe shuffle Bash over. What you lose in experience, you gain in pace.

If Coutts returns then you still have the possibility of reuniting our best trio in recent times. At least Evans an Lundstram have got some valuable game time to rest players and cover injury if required. In Holmes you've arguable got a back up to Duffy if he can have a good pre-season.

It's clear we need another goalkeeper. It's also clear we need another forward. As good as Brooks is, you can't help but feel there isn't that much gas left in Billy or Leon. Ched remains a gamble. The return of Coutts and a proven forward would make things interesting. Another centre half would be nice, but again, given Stearman was the marquee centre back signing, are we going to spend enough to relegate Basham or O'Connell or to drop Stearman? I'm not so sure.

It says transfer or loan, So have they signed new deals and been made available for loan?

Yes, both of which are meaningless if his deal expires in July. There’s no mention in the Beeb, Sky or official site at the time he signed it two years ago that it was anything other than a two-year deal, and I doubt if he’s being told he’s available for transfer or loan that he’d be motivated to sign an extension. Only thing I can think of is that we (quietly) all along had a year option we could activate and have done that in the hope we can get a fee for him.

That list seems about right, two slight surprises are Heneghan and Nathan Thomas though as i thought these were brought in for the future. Seems that they've not made the step up

Sounds like Shrewsbury aren't that keen now either.

We are in a bit of a unique situation really. Hear me out:

GK - Given the games Blackman played, we’d be in with a very good chance of getting an excellent keeper on loan. We’d be seen as a club where a keeper would get game time. That’s a relatively cost effective key addition we could make.

DF - We’ve been without Freeman pretty much all season. Cliche as it may sound, he’s like having a new signing and could play either wide role. To one of the above points, if Graham, Semple and Ferguson cannot between them cover the role of 6th choice centre back option (behind Leonard and Wright) then why are they on the books? It’s not like they would be called upon any more than a couple of matches at the most.

MF - For Freeman, read Coutts. He’d be like a new signing with the bonus that his understudies have gained some valuable experience. Holmes or Leonard may come good as a bonus too.

F - Get what you can for the available players and if money is tight, add to whatever budget there is and lump it all on as good a striker as you can. You’re safe in the knowledge that Leon, Billy and Brooks will score enough to stop you getting relegated and the returning players will improve your lot.

If the money’s not there, keep what we have, then a striker and a keeper if right would keep us competitive. No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

It’s not as if Stoke, West Brom and Swansea are wrapping up the league like Wolves did. Losing Villa or Fulham for that lot makes the division weaker in my view. The one of the latter two not to go up would be my favourite unless they lost a lot of players.
