Authentic River Plate shirts are ridiculously hard to come by in Europe - as I found out whilst trying to source their 17/18 away shirt. Got there in the end. Based on a mid 90’s number they wore and using the same design as the infamous ‘bruised banana’ Arsenal jersey.

That one looks a bit fishy to me but I won't carp on about it.

:)
Me and my pal are on about a trip to South America to watch them at some point. If you fancy it Rob :)

We were discussing a trip so all could tie in nicely. Some distance but would be phenomenal. May try set up some meetings to justify going on work time :):)

Forty Years ago .......

One of the chuffs shot from just inside our half, over near the John Street Dugouts, and it flew in our net at the Bramall Lane End

Thats how I remember it anyway ......
Forty years ago :) wow I am really old.

I've got this shirt, the 03-04 away.

Things have improved now but their stadiums used to look like horseshoes as they never built the away end, so just 3 sided. A local derby Baca V River Plate was WAR OK talking about the 80’s.

This is fucking incredible. Imagine all of Bramall Lane singing in time and in tune? No, me neither.

Been to Buenos Aires (and Puerto Belgrano and Ushuaia). An incredible place. The Argentines are a wonderful bunch, a real mix of old Italian fireyness and new world gaucho cool.

But when it comes to football its somewhat different. If you think we hate the pigs to the limit of human endeavour, you should see how much they hate each other in BA. They breathe, piss, shit and bleed football and their loyalty and passion is the stuff of legend.

pommpey

Was there. Used to have the programme. All I remember is that I felt they were from planet football and we were from the arse end of shit city on planet zzzzzzzzz.

Such a great shirt this!! Love it.. it’s odd they used to be a lot easier to get a hold of but now it’s as if The Argentinian government ended exports around 2006, this one you have is one of the last shirts that was more readily available outside Argentina.

Can't hop on board, myself. I really really want to visit La Bombonera at some point in my lifetime. Looks an incredible ground/atmosphere.

We're fannying about over trying to get super-duper-safe standing...those Boca buggers are stood at a reyt angle on the top tier!

Just don't walk to the ground. Tidgy bit rough round there!

Though (name-dropping) I was with their players for the duration of the visit, and when they found out that United had beaten the European Cup winners, Liverpool, on the day that they arrived (they didn't attend the game), there was a genuine sense of 'Oh my God, we'd better take this lot seriously'; after the match, they said nice things about United, but I think they were just being polite.

That’s my recollection as well , still think about that goal, the best shot I have ever seen.
The other memorable reason I remember thaft night was I took my now wife to the game, took her on the Kop, and all she did was keep looking at the clock on the Bramall Lane end to see how long there was left,,, she has never been back since. philistine:eek:

I remember the player far left in top row. After the friendly match outside the John Street players entrance he was using his charm on a female Blade fan by holding her hand in a seductive way and trying to communicate with her. The female Blade was flattered by his attentions on her!

Your memory is amazing !!

Did Miss Blade fall for Pedro González ? I think the teams headed to the cutlers hall for steak and trimmings in a civic reception!

Had we beaten river we would surely have been champions of the world after beating the champions of Europe 48 hours before !

Front row bottom left is Saporiti. He later played for the international team and was robust but very fast.

Just about Remember that, think I went..but hey ho the old braincells ain't what they used to be...:(

Use Google translate !

World cup final manager learns everything from 'happy' Harry Haslam:

Not sure from the translation but the blocker to the maradona deal seems to be not wanting Carlos Fren as a buy one get one free:

https://losandes.com.ar/article/maradona-casi-idolo-ingles-solo-falto-firma-756535

Fren began his playing career in 1973 with Argentinos Juniors. Between 1976 and 1978 he played alongside teenage sensation Diego Maradona in the Argentinos midfield. He made over 200 appearances for the Paternal club before joining Independiente in 1978.

Fren played 103 league games for independiente before leaving to join their fiercest rivals Racing Club in 1982. In 1980, he was included in the Argentina squad for the 1980 Mundialito.[1]

Steve 'Charlie charles' Charles view of sabella. Sabella gone even higher in my opinion as a left winger and Peronist youth !

Unless Gonzalez was exceptionally fast, Miss Blades' honour remained intact, as both teams got to the Cutlers Hall soon after the match - the River Plate team and entourage had to leave early the next morning for their flight. One or two of their players fancied their chances with Sheffield lasses, but I don't think any succumbed.

Interesting story HodgysBrokenThumb . Passarella wasnt in the River Plate team coach and I was looking for him hoping to get his autograph, Then I saw a group of fans surrounding a car so I went over to the car to find out and saw Sabella sitting in the back seat with Passarella! I knocked on the car window, Sabella then wound down the window and shook hands with me!
