“Chris loves Sheffield United,” Prince Abdullah said. “He is ‘one of us’ as they say. But I am not daft enough to think Chris is not an ambitious guy. He is loyal but ambitious and so are we. We must match those. I say to my friends: ‘I want him to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson.’ I want him to be here for 15 to 20 years.”

I wish I didn't have to say but...

You know you're gonna get blasted for posting an old article.

Some people have made up their minds already

That was back in last October ................... then soon after it all started to go tits up

Did our January budget tally with The Prince proclamation on backing Wilder? Did we have the budget to attract the two quality players he mentions below? Is Wilder worried that without the Maguire and Walker fees he will be facing a big budget cut, and will have to sell his better players? Was January recruitment with an eye on replacing Fleck etc, with new, young replacements?

JS: Will money be available during the transfer window?

PA: I own the club 50/50 so it can’t be only my say. But I think as we stand right now we have a realistic chance of promotion and so I think we should. We want to have quality, though, not quantity. I would rather have two players who make a difference instead of four who are like what we have. I think the fans should know that not me or Kevin have put any pound into our pockets. We have put money into the club every year. This year we might break even but only because of the (Kyle) Walker and (Harry) Maguire (sell-on) deals. But we expect another deficit next season. We are break even only if we assume there is no activity in January and I think that is not a correct projection.

True, but I imagine he might still be of the same opinion?
I'd like to think both owners are sensible enough to realise that letting Wilder walk would be suicidal.

Why on earth we didn't sign 2 quality players instead of 5 average ones (including Lundstrom) is a complete mystery then , because that exactly what the Prince said we should do ...and he owns half the Club.
So the Prince wanted it.
Wilder wanted it.
Did the other owner not want it , perchance ?
The owner who has a history of tight budgets.

Who knows? It seems to me that the disagreements have been going on for some time, maybe even before Wilder's appointment. It was telling that Wilder couldn't answer the question on how much of the Walker, Maguire, Murphy (promotion bonus) money he could have earlier this season. The owners have essentially put less money in the club this season than last season, due to this unbudgeted for income from sell on clauses.Wilder is probably thinking that unless there is significant developments, he will have to sell his best players to pay off the annual loses the sell ons have bridged this season. If you look at most of our recruitment, the players might well bought with an eye on next season when our better players are picked off. In particular Lee Evans, Lundstram, Leonard and Baldock. I think Holmes was bought purely due to the boardroom situation at Charlton allowing us to get him cheaply.I don't think it would have been unreasonable for Wilder to have expected a significantly bigger budget than he had in league one.

Quotes are quotes are quotes.Nobody forced them to say what they said. If they've been misquoted they can sue.
The Stir can't even quote correctly.
Even the basics of typing up an interview and proof reading are way beyond it's capabilities.

JS: But, from your perspective, it signals you want to be more involved in the day to day running of the club.

PA: When I bought into the club, I don’t want to lose money of course. I would be open to any idea to get us to the Premier League.

When I was appointed to the government, I not only had to quit Sheffield United but also Saudi Paper. I sold all my shares because I thought I would stay in the government for four to eight years. I only wanted to keep Sheffield United and one or two other things. Now, I want to be successful at one or two things and hopefully one is Sheffield United. But, to answer your question, I would never be selfish, I would never stand in the way of Sheffield United being successful. If someone said, we want the club and we will put £100m in, I would be very reasonable.

JS: Would you ever entertain the prospect of accepting investment from an outside source?

I don’t want someone saying give my per cent away. I’m not in a position to do that, unless I win the lottery maybe (laughs).

That says a lot.

One has 3 times more successful PCC complaints against it than any other paper ,and is Banned on Wikipedia as a source of anything factual,
and the other broke the stories on Panama Papers, The Windrush scandal, Snowden, NOTW phone hacking to name but 4..

But has it investigated Citizen Corbyn and his shady affiliations, or his mate Chemical Putin ...? They say Russia backed Labour at the last ballot ...

Analysis has to be even-handed for any paper to be taken seriously.

Yes the even handed evidence based analysis is the Times said exactly the same about Kinnock .....
oh and Michael Foot which they had to cough up damages for.

Some need to be able to see beyond lies and smears and look at
fact based journalism.

Anyone who trusts any paper for unbiased accurate reporting is foolish in my opinion. They all pander to certain parts of society that forms the majority of it’s readership and therefore pays the bills.
I think the DM is an odious rag not fit to wipe my backside with but do I trust the Grauniad much more? No sorry, political agenda is political agenda and the fact that I may lean more one way than another doesn’t blind me to that.

Bloody hell. Can everybody just stop pledging for a bit?

I'll have a go at answering this; we couldn't afford one guaranteed quality player who would improve the first team straight away (and there is always the risk they won't) let alone 2. So we gambled (again) that buying 5 'maybe's' would give us what we needed. It did give us options and the improvement was there but not significant.
I still have hope for all of the signings (even Holmes who I said we should definitely leave well alone, having seen him he does look to have quality unlike any of our other strikers).

You do know the Russian embassy came out in support of the Tories, and financed their election to the tune of almost a million pounds right?
