“The ref had a message from the Prem and the press. Add on as much time as poss and help Sheff Utd. We don’t want #teams like Preston in the Prem”

Yeah cos the FA the Press absolutely love Sheffield United don’t they?

They could have added on 2 minutes just for the time it took Daniel Johnson to amble off when subbed . I've seen guys with Zimmer frames move quicker

I hope we learn from Preston.

They're mostly shite, but some how they pick up results regardless, which is something we don't seem capable of doing unless we're bang on it.

I don't. I don't think there is anything to learn from them, horrible team.

I don't really want to see teams like Preston in the Championship, ( i.e. cynical cheats) but hey ho.

“We were like Sheff Utd under Warnock”

This is exactly correct.

Incidentally Roygbiv are you going to continue using album covers for next seasons view from? If not how about famous novels or TV Shows.

Good idea! The book theme sounds good.

Well one is not to give away the ball in chuffing stupid positions and then concede a goal.

In the words of White Goodman: Touché

I’m fed up of seeing teams like Preston come to the Lane and succeed with anti-football.

Cynical time wasting, rolling about on the floor and pretending you don’t understand what the ref is saying.
It’s shit and not something I want to pay to see.

Norwich, Bolton and now Preston to name just some seen at the Lane this season. I despise them and their brand of football. I rejoice in the fact Bolton look like going down and I’ll rejoice when Preston either don’t make the play-offs or if they do fail to go up.

The comment that we were like that under Warnock is hogwash. We played a high tempo in your face kind of game. We gave it and took it. We didn’t feign injuries like I’ve seen from these teams this season and we weren’t short of some quality players.

I’m more pissed off today at the antics of their so called players than the actual result. It fucks me off big time. I’ll take a defeat when the opposition tries to win the game playing football. Not Preston’s or Norwich’s way.

Bending the ear of the ref all game, rolling about on the floor, cynical fouls and blatant time wasting. Preston fans might be happy to pay to watch that but I’m not.

Hope they fail to get in the play-offs and next season join their equally despiseable neighbours Bolton in League One where they belong.

as for the time wasting name a team that doesn’t do it when required.
Sheffield United.

If we were capable of employing such tactics we’d already have a play off place.

Played Preston 3 times this season and what wonderful entertaining affairs they'e been...one simply can't wait to lock horns with them again next season.
Been an experience gathering season, don't forget it's CW's first managerial season at this level and I'm sure lessons will have been learned especially when playing mindburning dogshit like Preston, Norwich, Bolton etc among others.

It's certainly a long time since I saw a referee mugged off as much as today. Their goalie repeatedly took the piss, the 'speed' their subs came off was farcial and the 'hit by a sniper's bullet' antics of their number 4 (I think his name was Lazarus) who then immediately recovered was embarrassing. The ref. obviously thought that United trying to win the ball was a more serious offence.

But what's the solution? Some people around me said that 'there should have been ten minutes added on', but today was one of those 'we wouldn't score if we played till midnight' days. Disappointing that we didn't sign off with a win in front of another fantastic crowd, but not as bad as 2 years ago when we lost the last home game to Scunthorpe with Badkins as manager.

But back to 'what is the solution to such blatant gamesmanship'? If the ref. had booked any of their cheats, am I right in thinking that the yellows run out at the end of the season? If so, games such as today's will not be worth attending.

I agree with a lot of what you say. But there are always exceptions!

I remember going to Deepdale early in the 2004-5 season, when we had that horrible orange away strip.

We hadn't won there since the 1950s, but we started well and went 1-0 up early on in the game. However, a few minutes later we conceded a penalty and Jagielka was sent off. It seemed as though we would slip to yet another Deepdale defeat. But the footballing Gods were either fast asleep or so drunk that they gave us a break.

Kenny saved the penalty. Then for the next 75 minutes or so we played an absolute masterclass in time wasting to hang on to that 1-0 scoreline. And I mean a masterclass. It seemed quite amusing to us at the time, but I remember thinking we would not have found it at all funny had it been the other way around.

Ah well, as the saying goes, what goes around comes around - even if it does take 12 or 13 years!

PNE knew how to play it. They’re limited but were very aware we’d cough up a chance for them if they defended well and stayed patient. And they defended fiercely and had a touch of fortune when needed.

Story of the second half of the season played out yet again. We know what needs addressing, so now it’s over to Harry and Lloyd upstairs to make it possible.

Watching paint dry would be more favourable than watching Preston.....No idea how their fans were so enthusistic after watching that, even after winning.
We need to find a cutting edge again for next season or it'll be mid table mediocrity at best.

If this is the best thread to talk about the goalkeeper’s antics, Billy goes up alongside him for a high ball a couple of times and each time he collapses clutching his ribs. Then later his mate comes steaming in and nearly takes his head clean off, but within seconds he’s up and makes a wonder save.

Exactly. Came with a game plan & stuck to it. Game management. The points we've thrown away by being incapable of this element of the game is shown in the table.

Said that to my lad, their player absolutely steamed him but was straight up no thought of a roll around however if it had been a collision with one of our hired assassins he'd still be down now. Twat

Nearly as bad as Norwich, but they wouldn’t have been cheating if we’d had a proper go and scored first. We’ve not been good enough up front all season. Leon painted over the cracks, somewhat, but it’s now time for the ownership to sort themselves out and invest in some strikers and midfield firepower. Back Wilder now or spend much more, in the long run, when he’s gone and we get another run of bad managers; their choice. UTB

The came with a plan it work when 1-0 up. As i said on matchday thread they were
reminding me of Italian & Spanish gamesmanship like Juventus or athletico Madrid, in their little ways to time after time slow the game down

The ref had a message from the Prem and the press. Add on as much time as poss and help Sheff Utd. We don’t want teams like Preston in the Prem. ”

Of course because the premier league famously loves sheffield united

Nearly as bad as Norwich
Said this to my son. Alex Neill must have studied us vs Norwich game, identical.
Can't fault effort, commitment or attitude of the Blades today, just lacking an edge in some areas. The goal was heartbreaking, a collection of errors and it cost us - again !
