There's just something about that date isn't there?

It was on this day six years ago which was one of the darkest in the club's history and shattered many lives beyond. Of course I am talking about the conviction of Ched Evans. I think we can all remember where we were when we heard the news.

I remember going down to MK Dons the following day and people were in shock and silence at what had happened, and its often understated how much psychological damage it had on the playing squad.

Since then so much has changed off and on the pitch at SUFC. However there is a certain irony that tomorrow we again head to the midlands where our promotion chances are in the balance, hopefully this time things will be different.

There were no winners on this day, most importantly above all we hope that those affected have been able to recover.

Our fortunes turned on the availability of a single player that season and probably will again this season (albeit injury rather than rape conviction).

Fine margins between success and failure.

Give it a fucking rest will ya?

I knew I was setting myself up for that kind of reaction before I posted this, but went ahead anyway (I've not commented on this issue for well over a year and don't intend to ever again, hallelujah chorus I hear). We can all agree that this was a sordid episode and we would like it to be forgotten ideally .

Though if we (and society) were to forget these events will keep happening and nothing good will ever transpire. Paddy Jackson et al would have been wise to have learned a lesson from what happened with Ched, yet evidently they didn't to their detriment.

(If the mods and others feel that this is inappropriate on this part of the forum I apologize)

At least he's back banging in the goals now.

Ched, Couttsy, and don't forget Rob Hulse.

Single happenings that had a major effect on our seasons.

(I don't mean by all having the same date, they didn't.)

Don't say Paul and Rob had a night out in Rhyl!

You need to apologise for that "z".

Which means our season ended on the 21st with a defeat away from home... You just couldn't write it

Thought this would be about Hitler being born on this day

To be honest, the Columbine High School massacre was probably a more serious 20th April event.

With the Evans thing I just rolled my eyes and got on with my life.

I know - I was there for both.

Maybe I've misunderstood your reference to Rhyl - I know, Ched etc, but......
Misunderstood? It's hardly a question about single football teams having to get married before they can be champions of the top tier or something is it? :)

It wasn't just the losing of CChed which cost us,the whole club and fans were in shock.I ccan remember where I was !!.
The whole case seemed ridiculous as the only evidence was circumstantial , a big miscarriage of justice which had far reaching consequences for Ched and a lot of employees at the club.
A lot of things are coming to light now about the police holding back evidence that can sway the decision of a court case
Not just rape cases.
I for one have lost confidence in the justice system when prosecutor s can hold back evidence, Chess case should never as got as far as a trial.
The best five years of CheCheds career have been lost through this and cost United millions.
