Although Coutts' absence was a big factor at the time and responsible for the immediate dip in results, we've had plenty of time since plus a JTW to sort that one out. Someone correct me but we seem to have a different midfield out every week and whichever one we start with is not the one we finish the game with. Then there is the $64k question about Holmes, wtf. So yeah, Coutts absence has hit us for six but not quite in the simple terms most people envisage.
he is. but if Webber hadn't have it that fucking post the dumb cunt..He's right though.
We were never going to replace Coutts. To start with we don't have the money for a replacement, let alone finding one.
His speed of thought made us more dangerous in attack.
We had some money available in the JTW and it was squandered on two midfielders and a striker who never play. We could and should have done better than that.
Blades 1-2 Bristol City - Dominated and should've been at least 2-0 up at half time. Sucker punched, 1-0 down at half time. Fleck gets sent off, Wilder still goes for the win, we concede a last minute winner - resulting from a fluked cross. And against a play off rival.
Blades 0-1 Villa - We were the better team and if anyone deserved to win it was us. But their keeper makes a number of good saves, and in the last minute Stevens decides to show the best left foot in the Championship inside from the right to shoot.
Ipswich 0-0 Blades - Controlled the game from start to finish against very poor opponents with nothing to play for and didn't even manage to get a goal. Lundstram deciding not to score sticks in the mind.
Brentford 1-1 Blades - Very good away performance unrewarded thanks to numerous missed chances and Brentford scoring a scruffy goal after having nothing all game. 3 points thrown away, again against play off rivals.
Blades 1-1 Cardiff - Best home performance for a long time. Dominated against a top team and there should have only been one winner but instead we concede another very avoidable late goal at the Bramall Lane end.
Blades 1-1 Millwall - Crucial game against direct competition for 6th place. They're happy with a draw, and we're the better team. We finally grind them down only to surpass ourselves and throw it away immediately, straight from kick off.
At least another 10 points for us there including crucial ones gained over play off rivals.
And I know there are more. We genuinely should've been comfortably within the top 6. It's not like we've even got more than we deserved in any more than 1 or 2 games.
i think most of us knew it was over right there. i tried to remain optimistic but in my heart of hearts .. i'm amazed we are where we are. Coutts already knows before he has the ball what he is going to do next it's already in his head. he is a 'top' player, a Rolls Royce (c) Pinchy.. to replace him would have cost 5 million at least. We were never going to replace Coutts. To start with we don't have the money for a replacement, let alone finding one.

i've noticed recently that a lot of teams struggle with long ball these days it is as though everyone has forgotten how to defend it.Funny thing is though .yesterday like ( most days ) our defence deal quite well with channel balls and manage to turn defence into attack by reading them and stepping out with the ball but the manager changes things round their defender hoofs one towards the corner flag and the striker pearollers one in

I agree. We wouldn't have got a ready made Coutts replacement (based on his form before injury) for that money though. Not a chance.
But don't you think we could have got someone in who could have made the 4-point difference to get us into the play-offs? Or maybe tried a tactical change, e.g. a back four in certain games. We're talking fine margins here.
so you mean that instead of trying to replace Coutts and keep the same system, we should have simply changed the system. there's mileage in that but it's hindsightVery possibly, l was just referring to Coutts though. A tactical change for me, Coutts or no Coutts, would be to get the ball into the box earlier. Before the opposition managed to get eight or nine men back behind the ball.

criticism of Wilder couldn't come from anywhere else..
nah it's terminal. sorryOh dear, this is news to me. What will I do? Is there a cure for this Wednesday-itis you talk about? Can I function on other days of the week or just the one beginning with a "W"? Will I get spots or warts on my skin?

Norwich home
Barnsley away
Boro away
Add the points we've thrown away without Coutts to the points we would've have had with him in the team - automatic promotion?! It's not an outrageous thought.
