I'm just dusting the cobwebs off to nip up to Vicarage Rd this afternoon for the U23s PDL2 league game with Watford.
We've fallen behind a bit in the league. Bolton & Sheffield Wednesday are beginning to pull clear in the play off spots. Utd are 5th, with just 5 games to play. 8 points behind SWFC in second place.
I'll be tweeting team news, goal updates & maybe beer

I'll be Untappd at ball_sup
In due course I'll be Blogging a fuller report

Plus I'll cut n paste what I can to this thread

Sounds like the first team are having a knock on effect on the U23s.

Yeah. But don't forget. The U23s are this season's KO Cup Kings. In the Semi Final draw for the Premier League Cup (I "expect" the draw in the next few days)

A little harsh to be honest.

The 23s have reached the last 4 of the Premier League Cup beating WBA, Derby and Newcastle on the way.
The 23s are made up of 3 first year pros and scholars for the majority of their fixtures.

When you consider Newcastle and WBA have a bigger budget for their 23s than we have on our first team, I think our 23s are a credit to the club.

Passing Shirecliffe this morning I noticed our 23s leaving at 6am for today’s fixture.
No fancy hotels the night before for this lot.

Be intersting to see if that young forward [name???] we tried to sign from Watford is playing
[he got as far as Sheffield railway station but his agent was too greedy]

If he is playing how did he perform
is he one we missed, or did we have a lucky escape

I should’ve put a smiley, my bad.

I know full well the results have fuck all to do with the first team results, just a bit of light hearted humour, I always look out for our Youngun’s results and performances.

There’s a reason they don’t do hotels before the away trips ‘btw’ because a certain Mr Evans has been involved in the U23s squad this season and it just wouldn’t set a good example. :)

That beer looked wicked in the old fashioned sense. Did it keep its body all the way through or end up a bit stale and sour?

There's a Jay Beckford at Arsenal - they poached him from Leyton Orient. Not sure if it's him or not but there's an article on Arsenal's OS: https://www.arsenal.com/news/features/20160815/jay-beckford

The other triallist (Isaac Hutchinson) is from Brighton if my googling is up to scratch.
I'm reasonably sure it's Beckford. Hutchinson has played for the U23s v Newcastle. I haven't written about him today. He didn't stand out. But he was in "decent game" territory.

I'm hearing rumours that Issac's younger brother Jake is also trialling with our Academy. (Maybe he played U16 v Palace on Saturday)

Cheers Phil, good to get a feedback on what's happening with the young un's.

Welcome back to blighty, Phil. Great report - sounds like Slater is filling the void left by Jake Wright!

I think the 23’s will focus on the cup now Phil, the league would be good but it’s not really a defining moment, let’s be honest we play a young developing side most games whereas teams like Wednesday throw first teamers in pretty much every game.....that real ale must have been good today if Slater is now “ stocky “ great blog btw

I really enjoyed this game. A proper game with play being created from the back and good movement and passing by both sides. We do play a young side but we have a nucleus of regular youngsters who drive the younger ones on. Great performance from our 4 at the back and Callum Semple was never off the ball. Hard working Slater and Gilmour drive on. I must say Oure, he of the Orange boots, is responding to the coaching and his work rate improves with every game. Two trialists, one Beckley, looks about 14 years old, gave a good account of himself and I hope to see more of him. No Ti Smith tonight, not even on the bench and I missed him, he would have loved this type of match.
We may not make the playoffs but there is no doubt we will continue to give a fine account of ourselves.
Looking forward to the draw for the semi finals of the premier League Cup we are in the hat with Swansea, Leicester and Aston Villa. and in line with importance given to the 23s it is rumoured that the game will be at Stocksbridge. The boys don't mind as they get a bigger support there.

We also get better results there ,the boys may feel happier there
