There are many reasons why we aren't in the play-offs, and I'm certainly not knocking the current squad/management.

Do we have the resources to bring a player like Mitrovic on loan? Our team would be frightening if we had just someone of that caliber, it can breed so much success. The only player of that ilk I can think of who we've had recently was James Beattie, though in 2009 he was on 40k a week an extraordinary amount of money yet probably not that much less than Mitrovic is on now.

If we can't sign players like Mitrovic, we require more investment or change of ownership to move forward. With the right manager, which we so clearly have, we don't need to be afraid of throwing money away with wasters like Rhodes etc

Instead we get James Wilson, injury prone with little game-time or prestige behind him. No wonder Wilder is frustrated.

We've done extremely well just to be in contention, and if we pull it off (play-offs or promotion) it'll be a staggering footballing achievement.

However I think the above comparison makes it all the more apparent of what's required to make the cut, that added bit of quality.

This is very clear. If we have the money we get Mitrovic we don’t we end up with Wilson who has been very poor.

The january signings haven’t been up to much. It’s a mixture of no investment and poor scouting network.

I just think it's 'poor options', to be honest.

There's a 'we could do with' list, and there's a 'who we can afford list'. The difference between the two is the outcome of each game.

When has this ever been different for Sheffield United? I'm surprised people are up in arms about it TBH.

Stand by, because if HRH and McCabe don't sort their shit out, the 'who we can afford' list will look more and more Woolford and Higdon than Mitrovic and Sessegnon.

Exactly, but that’s the thing the championship these days has changed dramatically in our absence. Barnsley spent more than us this season.

Teams like Brentford who are a few places higher than us in terms of spending have spent triple what we have!

Am I the only one who is happy with the way things are going atm and the players we have brought in?
How are people complaining that we should have a bigger budget to achieve our goals, which are... automatic promotion in our first season?

1: If only it was so simple? Big investment is fraught with real dangers. A club can sink and be in a massive debt.
Big investment gives no gaurantees as they’re finding out at S6.

2: Wilder isn’t frustrated about the investment because he’s been fully backed and been given all his targets.
His frustration lies with his players performing well, creating plenty of chances, being the best team BUT still not winning.
Think he put it down to bad luck but now he’s realising that it’s nothing to do with luck, maybe we need players who can finish.
We have a great midfield but none of them are chipping in with goals.

Nope.

I'm delighted with what we have achieved on and off the pitch in the last two years

I’m delighted too because in 90% of home matches we’ve looked the better side.
If we could convert our chances then i’m sure we’d finish top 2, so it bodes well for next season.
The only sides that gave impressed me at the Lane have been Brentford, Fulham and possibly Forest.

Some of the players brought in.played last night.played Cardiff off the park.chris made some brilliant signings on the budget wev'e got .play offs or not can't wait for next season.but this one not over yet.couldnt have asked for much better team spirit such a display of excellent football played last night.

I think Wilson has been his own worst enemy tbh. I think the lad underestimated the challenge of being a regular in this team, yes we've not been clinical of late but our strike force still aren't a bunch of mugs.

I think Leonard will come good. Holmes remains to be seen.

I think Mitrovic is the exception rather than the norm for a Championship loan signing.

Again I don’t think it’s purely down to MUNNEH, but getting the right players.

Exactly...build steadily, bring in the right players, don't push the boat out and cripple yourselves financially...plenty of teams have shown you don't need to sign the likes of Mitrovic to be successful in this division.

Mitrovic is 5 times the player Wilson is.

But then again he’s also 5x the price

He gets c. £15,000 for every win and c. £8,000 for every draw as part of his Toon deal reportedly. I’m assuming Fulham have matched this (?!).

Mitrovic is on loan, depends on the terms of the loan agreement with Fulham to whether or not we could have got him. My view on the recruits is C- so far, only Evans has really managed to hold down a place. Unless we get serious investment for next season I can see the squad that is here now being pretty much the one that starts next season barring maybe 3 new additions.

The issue is the more you pay, the less the gamble on whether it's the right player.
Were buying top 6 division1 players, and asking them to perform in the top6 of championship - that's probably a 50/50 purchase.
Mitrovic, Madine, Assombolnga etc are top end championship players, fees and wages.
We can't fish in that pond after all those years in div1, so that's how it is
If Macabe or prince lob in £50m then great, but til then it's the bargain rail and hope they can step-up

The more money you have the bigger the pool of players you have to choose from.

A player like Mitrovic is way over and above our wage structure. I don’t even contemplate loaning players like that. We’re not in that market.

He's also a nutcase, probably wouldn't pass Wilders 15 point check. Fantastic player though.

He's also playing for his fellow countryman which probably helped get the loan deal over the line

Totally. Wilder is now realising there's a correlation between how much money you spend and how 'lucky' teams are. Just think of the big spenders who have come to the Lane this season.

Certainly helps you get 'lucky' in the last 10 minutes when you can bring a £6m striker off the bench rather than one that cost £50k.

Having said that, the key to our current success is Wilder having a tight squad that fits both technically and personality wise. As soon as we start spunking moneh we lose that and risk losing it all...

If Utd wrote his contract he'd get double the bonus for us and Fulham both winning and we'd pay it all. (This may not apply now but I could certainly see a Robinson/Birch effort enabling this)

Wilson has been utter bobbar on this loan.
He still thinks himself a Man United player instead of a lad trying to prove himself back from injury.
His first touch is the worst in the squad at the Lane. It's just awful, so no wonder he is struggling.
The other key thing is that he plays for himself and not the team.
I have seen the lad three time in a live game and not once has his movement or link play shown he has a role to play for us.
.... /Bin

As for Mitrovic.
I was at Fulham. Beast, quick, clinical. The complete antithesis of Wilson

Mitrovic was signed by Newcastle for 17 m
He is a Serbian international and a very good player in his first few premierleague games he gets sent off twice ,He spends the rest of his time there being a cunt starting fights In training and being a non entity round the first team squad

Then when he realises his world cup place is at risk his fellow serb brings him in at Fulham and puts his arm round him and gets a tune out of him at a level well below his potential

In short we had absolutely zero chance of signing him and neither should any other championship club
