I think tonight we got a glimpse of what we've missed while he's been gone. Not the finished article by any means, but brings direct running and movement off the ball that we don't get from anyone else.

He brings out the best in Leon, too, and for me this needs to be our first choice strike partnership going forward.

I don't think DB will be fully fit until the start of next season, when he's had a full pre-season. Tonight, CW probably thought 'We'll give him an hour' and I agree with starting him rather than introducing him later on.

Fairly poor? Wtf? Not at his best but still quality. Agree with you he has got to start from now on.

Fairly poor from what we know he can do.

Kept getting the ball stuck under his feet, too slow of thought and action and messed up a couple of chances by delaying. I thought he was one of our poorer players, but everyone had a good game.

He was fairly poor tonight but his runs and sheer unpredictability opens space up for everyone else. Has to start the remaining games, if fit.
I agree somewhat, he looked a bit leggy and got the ball stuck under his feet a few times but he did well enough imo. Couple of times first half he needed to take responsibility and have a pop.

Brooks makes things happen. I think he struggled with conditions as the ball got stuck a few times.

He did OK tonight and probably should take a shot more often.

He lacked a bit of his usual finesse but he wasn’t poor by any means.

We said that same, that someone might think Brooks had a poor game as he didn’t go pass his man or create much

BUT we all said Brooks movement caused them problems, it seemed to create space for the others.

The Clarke- Brooks combo looked really promising.

Thought he was poor tonight, gives the ball away too often and missed a gilt edge chance.

I tbi k rooks is taking a lot of stick cor the gance evans had that he took an eternity with

I thought Brooks was a constant problem for Cardiff last night. He’s clearly not 100% fit at the moment but he still should be starting games rather than coming on with 20 minutes left and trying to change the game.

The thing he is missing is the final product which will improve with more games and experience. Will be a class player in a couple of seasons - hopefully with us.

I thought overall he did well, pace, movement and tricky, running off the ball. The pitch did not help him too much but certainly good to see him back

What chance was that??

Gives us a totally different dimension, teams have to sit 5-10 yards deeper when he’s playing and probably out only forward who can get in behind. He’s got to keep playing if we’re to make the PO’s.

The missed chance is probably a reference to the Evans opportunity second half when he was played in by Fleck then dithered. Watching the Sky coverage back, Don Goodman has wrongly identified the culprit as Brooks and it doesn’t appear to have been corrected at any stage, even on the rerun of the incident.

I agree totally with the consensus that Brooks needs to start. He wasn’t at his best last night but we looked better going forward with him in the team and of course he’ll be sharper next time.

There was a great chance for Brooks at the Kop end.
There was a bit of a goal mouth scramble and it feel nicely to Brooks for a close range volley.
He had defenders closing in on him but he totally miskicked it, an air shot.

Agreed - he has the unpredicability and a bit of class which only Duffy maybe also has. Yes, I also think Leon plays better with Brooks.

Everything considered, which has to include match sharpness due to the type of illness he has had, I just don’t see him as a regular starter.

Impact sub, absolutely. Not a bad one I would imagine.

Conundrum could be that given Leon is the main man and mainstay of Wilders offensive strategy, who is his best foil ?

I would have to say it’s Brookes.

One thing does emerge clearly from last night.

Wilson will go back to ManUre.
Sharp and Donaldson will leave.
Hanson and Lavery won’t be coming back.

Wilder will have to pull at least a couple of rabbits out of the hat with the transfer budget available to replace these players.

UTB

The pitch wasn't easy for a player like Brooks last night.
Turning players inside out in a bath of mud is very difficult.
If he's a starter every game till the end of the season is upto the gaffer.

I think Sharp will still be here one more season but doubt he will be a regular. We need 2 new strikers in the summer at least.

We really needed two last summer. Clarke & Sharp have tbh outperformed what we could have reasonably expected of them this season. It was the one area that I thought we were short going into the season – unfortunately the other options when those 2 haven’t been in form have either been too injured (Brooks, Wilson), too poor (Lavery, Hanson), too inconsistent (Donaldson), or all of the above (Evans).

Said it before and I'll say it again, if it was up to me he'd start every game.
