I've followed you on twitter for a number of years now, really appreciate your work and insights, but can I just ask....

What the hell are you talking about when you say 'Carrier Bag Firm'??

I've never understood that reference.

So, 3 triallists: Sheppeard Tadcaster Albion, Boyes Man City, York Fulham but previously Grimsby.

Are any of them worth keeping?

Carrier Bag Firm is a Self Piss Taking phrase. That is, I am taking the piss out of myself and "people like me". It's sort of like trainspotter or anorak. You must have seen "us". Hanging around the reception/players entrance. Trying to get Programmes & Teamsheets & other bits of souvenir memorabilia. Then snaffling them into a Sainsbury's Plastic Bag. I know people who collect pencils with club logos on them. Boom, straight in the carrier bag. It is also quite pleasing to me that, at the age of 59, I have the time, energy & IT skills to run a parody football terrace firm on the internet. What a time to be alive. It's a piss take BrownTonge
The CBF wish it to be known we are an Inclusive Firm. Anyone can apply & be considered for a three match trial. But, our general view after 78 SUFC games this season is "you wouldn't last 10 minutes". (Not aimed at you BrownTonge just aimed at all Keyboard Warrior Wannabees)
Does that explanation help?

Some pricey beer on offer at that pub, is that standard for beer from small breweries?
(I've made home brew which has come out superb before now and even I can produce 30 pints for about 50p pint with about 3 hours labour).

Cheers for clearing that up Phil!

I'm not sure Harry Boyes is a trialist. I've not got the paperwork. But, I saw him play as long ago as 16 Jan in the Youth Cup at St Andrews. And I've seen him for the Academy U18s before. He's been around too long & too often to still be on trial (surely). But, yes, I also think he's the lad from Man City's system.

That aside. I am happy to say I feel I know more about Dry Hopped Beer that young football fellas. I'm no judge.... What I will say (again) is that this phase of the Academy season is ridic. We send kids out on loan & trial & back to college & down the Job Centre. Then we get a mob of kids in from other places & trial them. Jaundiced view - what's going on? He doesn't look as good as the kid we've sent the other way down the road.

And, in a classic bit of U23 football Bollox, I couldn't tell who was Sheppeard & who was York. Harvey Gilmour was listed as 7. But was clearly wearing 4. That meant I couldn't be sure of the two (Sheppeard & York) I didn't really recognise.

In a nutshell. I'm no help to you.

Christ on a bike. I'm having to go deep tonight. Look. I used to be an Ale Cart. And proud. I used to drink AADSs. Any Alcohol Delivery System. Now I don't. It's pompous. But I don't have a price point. I had three drinks down The Bush today. One was free because I own shares in BrewDog. Two beers is my norm now. Two beers I really like the sound of. I'll ask to taste them before I part with cash money. So, I don't really consider the price. Look. I know how that will sound. But, I'm only having two. So a couple of quid here or there won't impact my choice.
But, let me return to my AADS argument. A pint of 4% lager at £3 delivers the same amount of subsequent Buffoonery as a half of 8% Imperial IPA at £6 a pint, £3 a half. I know I'm not really answering your question. I think for smaller UK breweries concentrating on "session" cask beer, there shouldn't really be a price difference to a beer made in some horrendous factory brewery.

There’s nothing wrong with train spotters either Mr Rose.

I used to be an Ale Cart.
I got to the point where I could drink as much generic lager or beer as I wanted and it didn't affect me, then came the real ales. Then came mixing them, I don't know how it works but you can get pissed really quickly off real ale, whilst the same alcohol delivered via Stella (for example) leaves me untouched.

Considering how young our team was and the numerous trialists I thought we hung in well and gave them a game. True we were second best but on an other day we could have nicked an equaliser. The Right back trialist stuck to his task and made some fine runs down the right. The rest were a bit light weight. In a way I feel sorry for the French guy up front I keep comparing his performance to one of Jake Wright's and he is way poorer. No first team players appeared and We had two or three of the Ireland boys on international duty and again no Stevie Mallon, seems to have gone missing.
Thought the keeper might have done better with the second but he made two great saves in the second half.
Our defence always seem to be up against strong players and battle well to hold them we seem a bit light weight and its not easy to rely on Smith's efforts to keep us in the game. Graham and Semple are getting their partnership back on track again
Having said that I enjoyed the game played at an old but proper ground.
Wont be at the Derby game this week so hope someone can keep me up to speed on it

This is a gentle thread though.

Wait till you go 'dog with a bone' with some of our more entrenched posters. Hours after the will to live has gone, they are still at it, banging away with the same old bollocks.

Stick to the ale, stealing club pencils and identifying the odd spotty yoof in a Blades shirt. You know it makes sense.

Excellent mate. You've invented some "new science". During Ale Cart Period I reckoned I could drink myself sober.

Mallon & Doherty are both with the Ireland U19s.
Norrington-Davies is with the Wales U21s
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Parkhouse is with the NI U21s.
