The derby game this season was the quietest derby I’ve been to.

Agree 100%. The atmosphere was painfully quiet. I was on John st (ok , not renowned for making noise) but this was Derby day afterall and I was expecting some effort from the fans. Just me and the Blade next to me singing. I bet everyone else round us was thinking 'WTF?!'

The thing is...and MUFC will testify. The bigger the crowd the harder it is to orchestrate an atmosphere.
As a fanbase we are a very self critical bunch. But we must be encouraged by the fact most visiting supporters vote BDTBL as the best atmosphere in the league.

Do you think that if it was 20 degrees that the atmosphere would have been much better? It was almost as cold at Hull and we were playing much, much worse and we were making an awful lot more noise there. It's almost as if grouping some fans in one area, the types of which will typically go to away games and be more vocal, can make a substantial difference. If only there was someone trying some sort of initiative at home games...

I think it was a combination of factors yesterday that quietened it down as the match went on, even the decent away following from Forest was pretty quiet and when you consider the away following is always louder one for one than home everywhere probably gives a clue as to why. I’m still a bit perplexed by all this noise rubbish - i was sat midway down on the kop and it took about 30 minutes to realise they even had fans in their end. They were one of the quietest bunch we’ve had this season for a sold out away allocation. And let’s be honest, they looked more like scoring than we did 2nd half and had more to sing about.

I thought noise was decent - much better than against Leeds and Burton and other recent home games

Ricky, I think you hit the nail on the head earlier in this thread when you said Burton was the wrong game and if you had tried it yesterday it could have been successful. I agree in this and thought that BLUT was quite busy yesterday. We used to sit on there in the 90's and was fantastic. Unfortunately my next move is likely to be the South Stand.

It would be good if we could sell season tickets there and advertise with the renewal letter that this was the singing section. Be good that everytime the away fans started they would get drowned out.

We haven't played Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea at the Lane for over 10 years.

Just re-read yoir question. To clarify, I was saying we play them all the time (soon hopefully ), what I meant is that we fans see these teams all the time on TV, and that has reduced the aura.

Just an idea to throw in the mix, because there has to be some reason if the atmosphere has changed.

A collective sigh from 28k people doesn’t sound great. But that is what it is, a reflection of what happening on the pitch.
I believe an atmosphere inside a football stadium is pretty much a reciprocal thing,It works both ways if the team are playing well the crowd show their appreciation.

Without checking you may be right but I know the players got plenty of boos, far worse than yesterday.

We won with an Oxford o.g. in the last minute and the boos were for David Barnes when his back pass went to the Oxford striker and he scored the equaliser. Quite rightly Bassett pointed out that this was unnecessary and counter productive. Bassett also used to criticise our support levels specifically our away support at Oldham that season after back to back defeats and a home game against West Ham in the League Cup a couple of years later. You can say what you want about noise levels but the attendances this year have been first class, something Wilder has the sense to acknowledge.

I'm one of those fans who sings occasional but prefers to focus on the action. If that makes me less of a fan then so be it, but as I can't get to most games due to money & family commitments I tend to savour the time I get there.

Kop in the second half was the quietest I can remember for long periods, I'll put that down to us being a bit crap and if I wasn't being snowed on (in row JJ ffs) I might have made more effort to change that

I thought we were ok on Saturday in the middle of the kop where I sit.

I certainly got to exercise my vocal chords a few times.

I didn't think the players deserved clapping off at the end of the Forest game tbh.

Poor overall performance really and only Blackman, Baldock and Fleck deserved paying

The attacking play was particularly pedestrian and poor and we got as much as we deserved really ....... looks like a few of the players need some stiffer competition for a first team place ....
