What a fucking thread.

Not a lot annoys me more than some pricks telling me how I can/should support my team.
If you don't like how others behave then fuck off and take up another activity, if not be prepared to put up with others who choose a different way.
Stand and sing, sit and applaud, turn up late, fuck off early. The choice is YOURS and anyone who tells you different is a cunt who should keep the fuck out of your affairs.
The amount of moaning about other supporters on this forum is, frankly, pathetic.

One thing to take into account. It's an all seater stadium because of the law of the land, and officially, the club is within it's rights to make you abide by that. The fact they choose not to is a something they can change at any time.

Agree and disagree here with you. I can't just tell the guy to fuck off and then have a really awkward period til the end of the match. You have to try and meet in the middle but in this case, I think I'm going to try and have an open chat with him if he's there next time and explain that next time I won't be doing that or we'll swap.

Remember we are in Yorkshire, the old Northern saying holds true. "Theres nowt as queer as folk" . Plenty of them at the lane on matchday.

Top rant. However the thread exists because some supporters do tell others what to do at the game.

8.5/10
Would have given you straight 10s if you'd written it in capitals.

How about this proposal:

John Street - kids and families
South Stand - BOBs and zombies
Kop and BLUT - active vocal supporters

If only it was that simple!
Fine by me,one of them BOBs that SIT in the South Stand.I jump for joy when we score but otherwise like to sit even when there's a penalty.Sorry and all that.

You're either a wind up merchant or unrealistic. For penalties you should be standing. If you can't see, then it's tough titty for you. I was sat for 98-99% of the match. Sure it wasn't you who prodded me?

I've been going to BDTBLsince 1961.Started in the John Street Stand with Dad,later moved down to the Terrace and for the last 30 years or so have been in the South Stand. When standing, stand. When sitting, sit. This standing for penalties by some in the SS only started 3 years or so ago and is a bloody nuisance.
It's good to have a rant now and again.

On an almost unrelated subject to getting prodded from behind, where's LYDON today?

Hope I get sat near you soon and we get a penalty. Made me more determined to stand now. I jest. No, but if the people in front of the person you're prodding are standing, don't blame that person.

Not quite the words I would have chosen, but I think you have summed it up pretty well.

Says someone telling others how they should/shouldn't support their team :)

I'm of an age which means during the 60s and 70s I spent time sitting, standing and getting the boot put in not knowing whether I was sitting or standing. The facilities were fucking atrocious; the bogs knee deep in piss, you risked contracting botulism if you ate a pie and every ground was a potential death trap. So the bottom line is I don't get upset about "substandard" facilities on the kop and I don't get uptight if someone around me wants to sit down, stand up or stand on their fucking head.

So, the BOBs are a myth, as anyone of my age will attest. The real miscreants are the namby pamby Middle Aged Moaners (MAMs) who have been brought up on sanitised facilities and prawn sandwiches and have panic attacks when confronted by something outside their ideal world.

So less of it you young whippersnappers, I'm backing the BOBs. It's the MAMs you should be venting your spleen at, not the BOBs!!

I love it when those around me stand up on the Kop. Gives me the excuse to do the same. Takes me back to my youth when it was the only way to watch a match. Still find it frustrating to watch a match sat down. No wonder there are complaints about lack of atmosphere, sitting subdues you. Can understand how standing annoys those who must sit though. Young 'uns at back of kop have it spot on.

Does anyone go anywhere in the ground where they are not surrounded by annoying people? If so, please let us all know where you sit so that we can all.... No, hang on, that won't work, will it...

turn around and tell them that you can't sit down, due to the fact you have a massive erection, then watch them have an attack of "eyeball Tourette's" as they try desperately to not look at your crotch, given it's about 12" from their morngy face.
you could also shout "are you looking at my bollox?" If you wish to embarrass him further.

Me and my lad, the esteemed Forgeblade, have been sitting, squatting and standing on the kop together in nearly the same place (gangway D, row XX) for about 17 years following our move from the family stand. I like to stand but can't always do this due to knees which are older than me. I had a knee op last year and the two lovely lads in front of us, for whom seats are an irrelevant luxury, kindly offered to swap for the duration of me convalescence. Like most people, my life outside football is quite sanitised now, and I really enjoy an antisocial and vulgar shout and swear on the kop, best experienced stood up following a beer or several! As I've got older I haven't mellowed and now occasionally enjoy the times when Forgeblade tells me to "calm down and shurrup dad", rather than the other way round! It's football, enjoy it for what it is, rather than pretending it's afternoon tea (Which I'm also quite partial to, but I modify my presentation accordingly!).

Might work as an ice breaker in Dempseys but he's talking about the South Stand

Well, I've just had some unexpected practice for the forthcoming Villa match. I've just been to Hairspray at the Lyceum (very good, since you ask), and blow me if the lasses in front of us didn't stand up and dance...Perhaps I should have punched them in the kidneys...

Thought this was going to be a film clip of "an evening in the gents at Dempseys", much to my delight it isn't!!

A guy behind me on the South once prodded me in my back and said I was moving about too much and my chair was banging his legs (the "moving about" was at chances, etc...at least I wasn't jumping up and down and being a pissed up gobby twat like the regulars in front of me).
As I was borrowing a mate's season ticket, I didn't make too much fuss. He obviously hadn't considered sitting with his legs at a different angle, like I have to.
Some people have sat in the same seat for years and feel they can talk to "visitors" however they like. One day, they will pick on some pissed up nutter who might not be as polite as most people on here.

I am of the belief some folk on the South Stand see you arriving at your seat, if you have chosen to sit somewhere new and put their legs there on purpose. Like a dog marking their territory but you are right one day they will piss off someone who isn't very polite.
