"Stars" leaving before weekend......

On the bias point, the most invalid of your criticisms above, I’ll ask a genuine question of my own; who’s more likely to be one-sided, a organisation representing the city, and therefore the two clubs in it, or fans of one side who are predisposed to love their club and subsequently hate/dislike the other?

I wasn't going to get too deep into this, however you have brought up a good question. I don't think this is an issue for the Star, however for the people of Sheffield. Whilst other cities climb over each other to see which team is the best, taking Manchester as a good example.

In Sheffield there is an obsession to to be not the worst and to run down the other side. I don't think this just runs to football, as our council have been doing this as well, whilst other cities build sectors for themselves and make themselves attractive for big companies to invest. I would so much prefer to have this conversation with both clubs in the Premier League than where both clubs are now.

So going back to the thread, why can't the Star build both teams up, without one side feeling victimised. Yes of course we are biased but I don't mind you serving the pigs a steak, as long as we have one on our plate too. If the Star wants to survive, then give both sides something they want to read daily.

Also to add, I think a lot United fans have never got James Shields from London reporting on the Blades, when the other side seem to have had local fans as journalists reporting for years. To be fair to you, you're obviously a Blade and it does feel like it's levelling out at the Star, however stop with the shit headlines and when we ask a straight question on here, can you you just give a straight answer.

Cheers

You genuinely think United aren’t built up by the paper? Honestly?

I am saying it was and that's what it felt like. As I said, I feel like it's levelling out now. We're going back a few decades here, but there is a lot to repair. You're not going to change perception overnight.

Let me guess - you don’t read it, either?

I’m not, it was a straightforward question

I did Danny, but not if I can help it. I generally go here or news now. If I see an article from the Star I try to unscramble the headline then generally don't bother. That being said I did read your article on Brooks which was good. I do find myself now not wanting to read what you put though, not sure why.

Fair enough, I tend to prefer actually seeing something for myself before passing comment on it though :)

Great point about Sheffield. You can't help but think there's always been too much attitude in general about pulling the others down rather than our own ambition and focus, whether as citizens or the council.

There's a few green shoots I'm seeing recently but also plenty of perennial mistakes too.

Thanks, I knew there was a point in there somewhere. Tend to agree about the green shoots but just feels a little too late. We seem to be picking up satellite offices rather than the big ones but maybe once the city centre has matured that will change.

For a good forty-fifty years Sheffield was perceived as being run by anti-capitalists and many businesses had little interest in investing in the city when they could set up somewhere like Leeds and be welcomed, not hit by high businesses rates to fund things like student games etc. It was seen as a predominantly working class city steeped in the politics of envy. It's going to take a long time to change that.

.... if, indeed, it is no longer true.

we wouldn't be here otherwise??.. this tabloid style of reporting pisses people off.. it might get you a few extra sales in the short term but the article is worded to make out that our best players are about to leave. it is disingenuous at best and i'd have to say rather typical .. the Star probably does it to the pigs as well but i don't know because i never read any shit about them..
and to be fair. some of us of an older persuasion have never forgiven them for 'save our owls'.. they never had a 'save our blades' when we went down to the fourth.. we haven't forgotten

Did you think Jack O’Connell, Leon Clarke and John Fleck were leaving on loan?

no but i’d imagine a few felt the need to check if this site is any indication

He could have posted a photo of Hitler stating it was Leon and he'd find some way of defending it.
'Well they both have " O " as the third letter of their Christian name so what's the problem?'

Sheffield United: ‘Blades stars could leave on loan before weekend’ admits Lane chief Chris Wilder

Stars? Admits ? (despite it being common knowledge)

Said Chris Wilder nowhere in the article, despite the quotation marks.

Its typical of the Star to do this! Back in the days when there was no internet and the Star was literally the only source of info on United - unless you rang Clubcall at 60p a minute - to sell papers you'd often see a headline at the Star stalls of "Blades seek Premier League Star"! When you bought the paper it'd reveal we're looking at a youngster you'd never heard of, and I don't think the Star has ever lost this habit!
