Things are great at BDTBL! However we are offering long term contracts to lots of over 30 players who aren't cheap and our neighbours are finding out what it's like to have a squad of over 30's who's legs are going and can't be sold or moved on! It's alright saying CW and AK know what they're doing but some of these contracts didn't need extending but hey have been. Chris says no sentiment but I'm not sure! (tin hat is on!)

Dont panic ... McCabe & Princey will pick up the tab

That's what owners are for ...............

Where we’ve had problems is signing players in their 30s on expensive deals who come in and for whatever reason it doesn’t work. It’s a different situation where players of that age come in and earn longer deals on merit, and at a sensible price too.

So you would have let Duffy go ?

Compared to our neighbours, if you see the wages they're reportedly paying, they most certainly are cheap, which is not to say that we are cheap. It's just a sign of how ridiculous the level of moneh spunking has been over at the sty.

These players have not only gotten us promoted into this division but brought us to the upper reaches as well.

This is not the same as buying overweight, past it players. We're giving the likes of Clarke and Duffy the chance to reach the heights they've been striving for their entire careers, but never quite reached.

We also have plenty of young up and coming players as well. It's a good mix.

Hypothetically...

How many of the first XI would you be happy to keep, should we achieve PL status next season?

I’d keep all of the first XI to be part of the squad at the very least. But a good number of the squad would have to be moved on, naturally.

For me they've earned their contracts.
We know that Wilder ensures we are keeping a good and fair structure, and they're honest players, who'd all rather be playing football than sitting out their contract on a bench. They're not like some of the wage thieves we've had in the past....
Should we need to offload any, I don't think it would be an issue.

At the risk of giving towd Pinchy an aneurism, Jake Wright for starters.

Seriously. Performs at a ridiculously high level whenever he plays, but seemingly happy to be a loyal squad member (& presumably on relatively low wages).

Hypothetically, if we did achieve PL status next season, we could pay off their contracts and still have gazillions of money left for undiscovered gems that would cut it in the Prem (which is one of the reasons I'm not sure I'd be all that chuffed if we did go up)

The thing with Duffy is that he's getting better as he gets older. If he carries on doing the right things and Matt Prestidge thinks his fitness is good who are we to argue.

If it’s til 2020 then it’s effectively just a further 2 years.
If we go up, then he will have takers and we sell. If we don’t he’s still got a game good enough for us.

How can you compare what we are doing to the fools over at S6
The players over at S6 were overpriced to start with and are on over £30k a week
Ours have cost us fuck all and are on around £12k a week

And I think that's the key thing about these players. If they start to slip out of the side, they are the sort that want to keep playing and if it suits them and us to move then it would happen. This way we won't lose a lot of money on wasters who are only interested in cash.

FFS what's going on at Bramall Lane, it's like a hard core porn film at the moment! Spunkin' moneh everywhere!

Firstly they deserve it after the success we've had and secondly I'd have thought they would be back up players as we improve the squad

Anyone else?
Don't get me wrong Lydders, I'd love to see CW make a success of it and he would thoroughly deserve his chance, but things as they are now (and will probably get even more ridiculous) if we don't attract a mega rich investor, I reckon we'd be looking down far more than we'd be looking up and if we do attract someone, then the team I supported as a lad, would be involved in a sport far removed from that which I had always hoped to see.

Believe the first team wage bill was around £5 million last season...even if we’ve doubled that we’d still have a way to go to be near t’pigs wage bill...

A bit of a different situation from having £10m misfits sat on £70k a week with no one willing to take them off their hands.

THE PIGS surely now realise that the wage bill and the performances every Saturday/midweek night don't mean anything.
As long as we don't start believing their delusions, us the supporters/ & the club, we'll be fine.

I'd be worried if we were a pace team and full of players with glass joints, but we're not and so far aren't (touch wood cross fingers etc).

We're not paying them millions a year, and they've earned their contracts with excellent performances.

Getting rid of players like Brayford (nothing against him but he was basically a seat warmer that cost us more per week than any of our players are on now) shows that we're improving in the contracts area.

Some players come good at the end of their careers and we’ve got a few of them who fall into that bracket. But you have a point. I think it’s all about holding onto these players till they get us over the line to the Prem. After that they will be replaced as soon as they show they can’t do it anymore.
