I've read alot about people worried about the rebuilding of the club now that parachute payments have stopped and then I have thought about other clubs.

Look at the teams who have gone up the last few seasons, not including Blues or Baggies.

One that springs to mind is Wolves. Their parachute payments had stopped, they didnt have money to spend on top players and they had a very young squad. Alot of fans hated 'fatty' evans-blake(sp) they didnt rate him at all at the end of last season and look at what he did this season.

My point being, alot of clubs manage to go up with a couple of good loan signings and a few of the kids.

We still have a chance next season. The likes of Henderson, Ward, Cotts, Howard have a chance over the summer to train hard and really gel together.

We can ship a few of the bench warmers out, make a few clever loan signings and be in with a great chance next season.

My key to all this is Speed, I really hope he stays on with us with a coaching role and works hard on the midfield (I believe that alot of the passing football we started to see was from him and we played alot better since he was getting into the coaching side)

I'd rather have a group of players who have been hurt, and want to repay the fans by pushing on next season than a group of overpaid charlies.

A good rant and I suspect it mirrors what a lot of people are thinking. You should rant more.
 
Agree why is everyone in a panic about the situation. WE ARE AN ATRACTIVE CLUB.
although parachute payments have gone, we have for a few years now been developing off field activities to put these resorses back on to the pitch. If mr Mccabe is honest this money will now stabalise the playing staff - which at many other clubs would have already be moving. yes we may not be able to keep off bids from prem clubs but players want to play for clubs with passion.(ask bromby geary tongy and james beattie) the grass isnt always greener although beattie will be happy at stoke Why because of the passion.
What clubs in the championship are better placed than united to take up the challenge?
Derby, West Brom Who else has the financial stability

It's hardly the return to the wilderness that some are claiming it to be but i will suggest that anyone expecting exciting transfers this summer will be disappointed.

I wouldn't expect there to be too much interest in the likes of Lee Hendrie or Sun Ji Hi who are still on premiership wages despite hardly featuring for us. Now both of these could potentially do a good job for us next season so it may not neccessarily be a bad thing but unless we can free up that 30 - 35k a week that they must be earning between them i doubt we will have much room to manouver.

Gary Naysmith will be earning a good crust for a player who will not be fit until xmas if early reports are to be believed.

I also wonder how much Gary Speed is earning. Gary is a top class pro and he has a lot to offer on the coaching side of things but if we is still earning a premiership wage then it ties our hands further.

I would expect a few players to move on, Kilgallon and Kyle Naughton would be most likely to depart along with perhaps Paddy Kenny.

Hopefully this will give us the chance to see some more academy lads make the step up and perhaps we can get some decent players in on loan to save on the cost of transfer fees.

We have a long summer ahead and those predicting the downfall of the club are simply over-reacting to a disappointing end to the season (is there any other kind for this club).
 
I don't think it's going to be a complete disaster, but it has the potential to be if the club don't run it in the right way.

The priority at the moment has to be to get the manager situation cleared up, because we're 3 weeks behind everyone else's preparation already and could be missing out on a couple of potential freebies.

I think it's asking too much for another play-off push next season in all honesty, I'm expecting a mid-table finish to consolidate and start again. It's a case of speculate to accumulate for us now, because we need a clear out in order to sign players because the wage bill is so high.

If it's not done right, we could end up like Leeds. If it's done right, we could end up like Wolves. Time will tell, I just hope the backroom staff know what they need to do and how they go about it.

Patience is vital from the fans this summer.

I'm not saying it will happen, we've just got to be careful.

We haven't got the parachute money - but with 18k season ticket renewals so far, and the Tevez cash chipping in at £4-5 mill a year for the next few years, we're in a hell of a lot stronger financial position than all but a few clubs in the division. The Geordies have a wage bill of £75 mill which the parachute payments won't go too far towards paying!

A few should come off the wage bill this summer. IF we can trim some of the deadwood while holding on to the best younger players, we're still in with a shout next season. The big test for me will be how we react if a prem club (e.g. Villa have been mentioned) come in for Naughton and/or Walker. While we won't hang onto players like that indefinitely if we don't go up next time, it needs to take really silly money (imho) to consider letting them move on this summer.
 
I still fail to see how owning a couple of overseas clubs and a hotel is going to give us any benefit whatsoever. Given that over here clubs are very lucky if they make any operating profit whatsoever, I can't imagine that Chengdu and Fradi make enough money for themselves, let alone allowing us to help ourselves.

Though I'm sure Kevin McCabe can see how it helps us - that's why he's living in tax exile and we all live just down the road from Barnsley :D

I'd like to see how the juniors have got on at Fradi, and see if any of them are ready to follow the Kyles out at BDTBL.

Fradi are a good aquisition due to the fact that we can bring in players from China, Brasil & other non EU contries to them as a stop gap before they come to us.
So they won't need to go through the strict rules that apply to when English clubs buy non EU players direct.
 
Oh yeah, I remember those two great Chinese players we signed, No Wan and Fu Kol.

Whats happened in the past doesn't mean we won't sign anyone in the future :)

I remember not too long ago people were questioning the use of the Academy's, look whats happened since then.
 
Totally confused me with norwich, i couldn't believe u wer sugestin we'd end up that low. ''If its done right we cud end up like wolves'' now makes sense. I stil think we'll be in the top 6 tho.
 
it's gonna be really tough though next season, newcastle,reading derby boro west brom cardiff leicster ipswich qpr. Just cant see us doing it next season cos the brand of football isn't goin to change and i cant see us bringing any better players in than is already there.

Nah, in all honesty I don't think we'll go that low. But, we just have to accept that it's always a possibilty with the way football is these days. I trust the board to do the right thing though.

I hope we do make top 6, but this league is going more difficult every year. There's so many teams who have a chance of going up. It all depends how Blackwell does in the transfer market for us.
 
I will be suprised if Newcastle or Middsbro do owt.
Weat brom and Derby are the threats.
 
Apparently West Brom have got to have a clear out of players and there is talk of Mobray going to Celtic.

So you are saying these are hard games, remember everyone has to play these teams so it's just going to more competitive, a lot could be taking points off each other
 
This league is always a hard league no matter if it contains so called 'Big Clubs' or small clubs pushing to medium (donny,Scunny)
