Despite the disappointing result tonight I think Stearman deserves a lot of praise for his performance.

Not only was he calm, he was steady and he organised the defence really well.

But his distribution is a cut above. He put a couple of lovely cross field balls in which were pin point accuracy and rather than clearing it or lumping it aimlessly he was always looking to pick a pass out.

We are really starting to see why he was Wilder’s number one transfer target in the summer, and now he’s fully fit and has had a good amount of game time he’s showing why he deserves to be starting.

That game was a potential banana skin for any defender and Stearman played confidently throughout. Any slip up could have shattered his confidence for weeks or months. Well done Rich.

Its never a good sign when your defender is MOTM but I think tonight he was

Agreed. I would try him at RCB and see if he can deliver a good ball in the final third.

Couldn't disagree more.

Too much of our play goes through him. If he was doing something amazing then fair enough but he's playing nice neat passes side to side in our half. It's simple stuff that anyone could do. All it does is keeps shit possession instead of good positive possession.

Shhhh. The Jake Wright Fan Club will be along in a minute to disagree with you...

Hilarious.

Would love to see Wright play some of the cross field 60 yard passes which Stearman can play.

Are you confusing him with Lundstram ?

If not, I don't know what you're on about.

Well said. Did Jordan Rhodes play toneet?!!!!

He did. Apparently Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday were there too. All were utter crap.

I suppose you could say that at least our team didn't cost £10m but what a complete pile of shite all 20 odd players were.

4 points out of 6 I'm sure we'd all have creamed ourselves over before a ball was kicked this season but what a let down they all were tonight.

UTB

I almost stopped yawning when he was doing the match changing stuff. He's a fucking Rolls Royce.

Until they had one sent off there were 20 even. + 2 of course

I thought he was our best outfield player tonight.

He was immaculate, another very good performance from him.

But, tbf, it was against a side that showed less ambition & attacking intent than, say, Alfreton Town, if they'd happened to have come to the Lane.

I quite like him as an all round footballer but tonight his heading game was just appalling. Time and time again he set Wednesday up or put United's defence under unnecessary pressure with poor headers. Best summed up by near the end of the match when after clattering into Moore [to poorly head it straight up in the air] he then headed straight to Reach to set up his volley. Every time the ball was on the deck he looked comfortable and vice versa when the ball was lifted above shoulder height. SKY Sports rightly marked him down as United's worst defender.
