Just a note that these views were collected before the Christmas schedule. Hussey and Wilson have both been out injured so no views on them

Cheers Roy. "blunts" eh? Not heard that one before.

Nice to see that George is being appreciated. He'll be getting plenty of practice there! Hopefully can find his voice.

It's clear that Whiteman is not the answer to our midfield gap when he can't even get a start for Donny.
I don't know where those quotes are from. He's started the majority of games for them and only missed a few because of a small injury, then was on the bench for a couple as he came back to fitness. I've been keeping an eye on their team sheets all season.

As one poster pointed out, he's often been used in a sitting role when he seems to be box to box. He has an excellent goals to games ratio for a CM.

Whiteman is sounding like a David Platt wannabe. Does naff all in midfield but has a knack for popping up with untracked runs.

I hate smug people who come on here and say 'I told you so', and things can go wrong still. But as a member of the goalkeepers' union who has always rated Long, I would like to say how good it is to read those comments. I'm not saying we must get him back, but I am really pleased for the lad, and hope he has a good career. Except, of course, if and when he returns to the Lane as an opposition player.

I'd echo the sentiment of others.

Chuffed to bits for Long.

Change of scenery and a smaller fan base seems to be letting him develop in a way 25k+ Fans anxious about his every move was never going to!

He always had the physical tools, and now it seems he's been able to develop the personality and mental strength to go with it.

I'm a big fan of Longs. It didn't work out at United ultimately although he did have a couple of decent seasons but good to see him doing well.

Below seems to be this season so far apart from the clickbait cover o_O

Great to see some good things being written about REED also.

Cheers Panchero!

Chuffed for George Long

Mixed reviews on Whiteman and Reed, but good to see Long finally showing the promise he had 6/7 years ago. As he's a Blade and I like my 'Bladey Blades' I hope he makes it.

Why are people so quick to think that GL has no future at the Lane?

He's gone out on loan. For me he still has a chance and the door is still open if he has developed as a player. Maybe it's a little bit too late but he' still only a young lad.

If he' got it then bring him.back in and have another look at him in the summer. Then Wilder can make his mind up on him for good one way or the other. Iv'e not written the lad off yet at SUFC (but he had to improve immeasurably I admit).

I wouldn't have a problem with Moore, Long and Eastwood as our three keepers next season. If Long was from Merton, had come through Wimbledon's youth team and we were interested in him, there'd be plenty saying 'sign him up'.

Chuffed for Long watched him a lot in that good youth team thought he would make it.
He might still do.

Just thinking the same Bushy

He's always had the potential but he now seems to have the confidence, positioning and presence to make him a good keeper. As things stand, I would be maybe looking to keep him given that we'll only have Moore and Eastwood next season (and he's better than Eastwood).

Was expecting it to be unbridled praise for Whiteman but once again it's George Long who's taking the deserved plaudits. I hope we keep this lad. I always want to see Blades from the youth team fill the first team ahead of loan signings from other clubs.

I’m not a fan of Long’s and think he’s one of the most incompetent goalkeepers I’ve ever seen play for United. I wouldn’t want him back. But I’m pleased things are working out for him.

Been watching United long?

Simonsen, Benstead, Baxter, Richardson and Bunn were all at least as bad or worse.

Easy to put the boot into a local young lad though, isn't it?

He was thrown in at the deep and those who abused him from Kop want fucking horse whipping.
Could have destroyed him went to Oxford,Motherwell and now the star of the show at Wimbledon I’m sure he won’t play us again but in the long run it could be our loss

Yet interestingly Carbarus Blade in the last full season Long played (2015/16) he had 10 MOM ratings (ahead of Done and Sharp with 4 each) as voted on this very forum so someone has got it wrong clearly.

I do wonder just how pleased you are that things are working out for 'one of the most incompetent keepers 'you've' ever seen play for United'.........

I'm genuinely pleased for him as well. For his own sake I hope he moves on and doesn't come back here - too much baggage tht he doesn't need as your post clearly epitomises. GLTTL.

I'd add Taylor, Davison, Howard and of course Leaning.

Andy fucking Leaning.

Shudder.

Long is in the Billy Mercer/Phil Kite bracket for me.

Interesting reports on Whiteman. Seems to go with that of a mate I have who watches Donny. He has not been that impressed. He says he has a decent shot and can clearly score goals but most games pass him by and he is not really that involved creatively or as someone who breaks play up. Says he is quite slow and a bit weak physically. He says that he is not a certain starter and more of a squad player which is worrying when Donny are nearer the bottom.

All in all seems to suggest he is a long way from being a Champ player. He is 22 this summer and I believe out of contact so not sure whether we would keep him.

I think we have moved on from the likes of Long, Reed and Whiteman in terms of quality we need. What is worrying is we have signed Heneghan (24) and Thomas (23) and neither of these seem anywhere near first team players at this level. Not sure what the plan is with either of these? They need to go out on loan but the future for them seems as muddy as that of the aformentioned trio who all are younger at least.
