Can you suggest any other reason for bidding such a derisory amount for Wolves captain Conor Coady?

You have no idea what the offer was!

Man did land on the moon. Elvis is dead. Professional football clubs do not make pretend offers for players. What on Earth would it achieve given how transparent it would be? Why would Wilder or any other decent manager lend himself to such absurdity when there is real life business to be done?

This is the Agenda meets Bladey Inferiority Complex. It’s the usual Bladey Silly Season nonsense that doesn’t pass the common sense test. What with this and the silliness about massaging attendances for no reason it’s getting dafter by the minute. We’ll be on alien abduction and beyond by the end of January.

Good old Subbuteo, by the time you got out the big piece of hard board, carefully laid out your "pitch" on top of it, wiped out any wrinkles to get it as smooth as possible, then set up your teams, your mum would come in and say "can you start clearing that away, dinner's nearly ready"..........

Mine was perfectly flat all the time! My good old dad fashioned a piece of thick wood and attached the pitch to it permanently. It simply stood against the wall when (very occasionally) not in use.

There was, briefly, a rival game called four-four-two. My mate had it and it was good fun.

Regardless of the amount an offer was made, (as confirmed by Wilder himself) so as you say, with real life business to be done, what was to be gained by a) making a bid for this particular player that was highly unlikely to be accepted and b) then going public to say that a bid had been submitted...if not to curry favor with fans bemoaning a lack of ambition?

You talk sense at times pinch but "man did land on moon" comment, thats funny, yeah cause he did, you love a wind up.

But it wouldn’t curry favour. It’s doomed to fail! It’s bound to be met with responses like yours. It wouldn’t work even within it's own terms because it’s ridiculously transparent.

We only went public, by the way, when it came out in the press as a result of a leak from the Wolves end. Not only that, the first person to confirm it at our end was Tufty himself. Inevitably, on the conspiracy analysis, he has, on any view, lent himself to this disingenuous sham and ought to be ashamed of himself.

Silly question but if this boy is as good as some think why are Boro gonna let him go on loan to a play off rival .

Certainly doesn’t suit pulis style of football and would be a great signing, suits out style
I can kind of see that bit if I was Pullis I'd be thinking to myself I don' know this league and I don' know these players but if that canny Chris Wilder likes our Adam maybe I should take a proper look at him.

The interesting thing about Clayton - which hasn't been mentioned: he is out of contract in the summer, which fits with our usual interest in these types of players.

Signed a 4 year contract in 2014.

So, if he has no intention of re-signing for boro, boro will possibly loan him, cash in, or lose him to a possible pre-contract now and he leaves for free in the summer.

Depends what he wants to do. 28 yo, so not a bad age.

He's not, he signed a contract until 2021. He signed it when they were in the PL and he was in the team. So this would make it very difficult, at least to do anything beyond a short term loan. http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/...brough-midfielder-adam-clayton-signs-12672290

Mine was permanently fastened to a board that leaned against the wall, so it only took 2 minutes to set up. Me and 2 mates had all of the First Division teams, which we repainted to the precise strips - I remember Palace was very difficult at the time with fine yellow stripes.. Every week we played the full First Division fixture list and had our own parallel League Table. Did this for 3 seasons at the end of the 60's.

Also had Subbuteo cricket and rugby. I think they're all still in the loft somewhere!

Magic Days.

He's far too expensive for us. Not sure if Boro would loan him to a rival either. Maybe there's more truth in the Pigs rumour

Int problem with loans they want to wait until the last minutes of window to see if they get a better last minute offer?

Why would we want someone on high wages who can't get in the boro team? What makes us think we know better than them? Possible but unlikely. Move on and take a gamble on some up and coming youngster or league 1 player who can shoot rather than some overpaid guy who's had his chances and doesn't seem willing or able to take them. Has beens = no future = no thanks.

That argument doesn’t wash anymore. Coutts blew that out of the water.

Can't see this one happening, doesn't make any sense to me other than he's a midfielder.

We need a midfielder.

If Clayton is available we should be interested. My query would be why Boro are prepared to let him go out.

As for the cost, well there would be a loan fee. Maybe as high as a million pounds when wages are factored in. Bit high for United? Well, if we have bid 700k for Leonard it’s not that far off a similar price, and if we then get a pre contract sorted for him it costs much the same to get the midfield player we need now with the same long term solution for future years.

So this may be the alternative if Southend continue to knock us back. I don’t see Millwall becoming a factor, simply because this lad is ambitious and will have seen for himself the difference and potential of both clubs. The fact Wilder has continued to pursue him with such determination would raise Wilder up in the players opinion of him too.
However, my only wish is for whatever happens to be concluded quickly.

Wednesday interested in him as well apparently.

Course they are, they are shit. They need good players and somebody to lead their transfer activity. Seems they will just go in for whoever Wilder goes for and try and play the “bigger club” card like the scrubbers they are.
