I say this not just based on this board, but other social media, and conversations with both friends and random Blades in pubs.

We've had barely 18 months of enjoyable aesthetically pleasing football that has critically also provided results.

However I'm seeing a growing viewpoint that we shouldn't be losing to teams who don't play as attractive football, and even worse an attitude from a few that it's wrong that teams come and set up to frustrate us and spoil the game.

Acknowledgement of a team doing a job on us leads to comments such as cap doffing or having an anti-Blades agenda.

Have we forgotten so soon how we enjoyed seeing us set up to do the same to the likes of Arsenal etc.

There's plenty to dislike about Bolton on and off the pitch, but I honestly didn't see anything from them yesterday to warrant some of the comments from fellow Blades about them, and dare I say it even our gaffer.

Do we really expect them to turn up in their position and just let us run rings around them. We've shown we can play pass and move football against the best in this league, so don't expect lower placed teams who don't feel they can match us in this department to not try to disrupt us like we have often done in the past.

I'm seeing more blaming of referees even when they've had reasonable games or at least been 50/50 with their decisions, and over-exaggerating other team's fouling when in reality it's been no worse than ours.

We all enjoy us playing this current style and long may it continue, but please let's not become all entitled and above ourselves.

No, it's just that our expectations have risen and fucking rightly so after living in the pub league for however many years. I absolutely hate this "whatever happens, let's just be happy we have had the privilege to play in the championship" attitude. That mindset is as a result of years in league one lowering your expectations and dampening your view of what this club is capable of. A club of our size should be in the premier league without a shadow of a doubt, that is my ultimate expectation for the Blades.

I'm too insular to be snobby. I couldn't care less how other teams play, I care about how we deal with them. We utterly failed in that task yesterday on every front.

It's high time people stopped collectively patting each other on the back on the basis of recent achievements. Pleasant memories do nothing to address the situation in the here and now.

Agree, I thought the same yesterday.

I remember our spell in the PL under Bassett and Warnock.
You’d always get the likes of Arsen Wenger complaining because we don’t play an open entertaining game.
He’d say we focus more on stopping the opposition, closing down their players and relying on set pieces/ percentage football. It was almost like he was saying “it’s not fair” because we don’t allow them to play their normal game and you’d get the limited but energetic Montgomery snapping at their heals stopping their passes.

I listened to Wilders post match interview and apart from giving credit to Madine he gave very little credit to Bolton. Wilder was very Wengeresque saying how we were the only team trying to win the game and we play “proper football”, that is attack minded and entertaining.

He does have a point but Bolton came out of the blocks quicker and overpowered and pressed us for the first 20 minutes.
Once they scored they just sat back inviting the pressure and let’s be fair they battled for their lives and defended really well.
Think Wilder should have acknowledged this and given them a bit more credit otherwise it makes you sound like a bad loser.

A snobby post about snobbery ..... o_O

It's true what you say but I'll cut Wilder a bit of slack in this instance. He's probably got the same opinion of Parkinson as the rest of us so fuck him and fuck Bolton.

I think there’s a touch of the TD melodrama there. If Clarke’s two chances go in we win that game.

We’ve had one transfer window as a Championship side. Unless you’ve got clover like Wolves, you aren’t going to assemble a title winning squad in one window. And with the loss of our best player, fatigue from games and relatively small numbers, our squad is struggling.

It’s not small mindedness to say “Well we’ve just come up from League 1”. It’s reality.

True, Parkinson rarely gives opposition teams any credit when his teams lose.

Bolton fans are in a catch 22.
They are a team full of giants with their main tactic being lump it long to Gary Madine.
Madine makes sure he jumps up with his elbows out, so often he gives away a foul or wins a foul.
Bolton love a stop start game mainly relying on set pieces. It’s awful to watch but it’s effective up to a certain level.

Personally I think they’ll stay up but they are never to progress under Parkinson.
It will be relegation battles every year with minimal entertainment.

We were comprehensively shit yesterday. This isn't a far-fetched assessment.

We should take it as a compliment that teams set up to stop us playing as opposed to concentrating on how they play. Bolton did a job on us and for that I admire them, but as wilder says I would not enjoy watching their type of football every week.

I'd rather watch us than Bolton. I enjoy attacking, risk taking football. I don't want to watch a fully negative team, even if it brings some success (think Liverpool under Benitez). I don't think it's snobbery but I do think I have a choice over what I want to watch.

But we've been a bit shit for a month now, regardless of style :)

No snobbery here then Barney.......... Pub league and we should be in the Prem, where have I heard that before? :)

Wow, never agreed with you more.

I just watched Palace nearly beat Man City, and the Palace fans were loving it. I want some of that because it's where we should be.......guess i'm a bit of a snob for wanting us to beat our Championship rivals

To be honest, it's amazed me how many teams haven't done to us what Bolton did yesterday and maybe Norwich, Birmingham before them. If I was an opposition coach, you don't give Duffy space and you push up onto our midfielders. OK there's more to it than that but we should be proud of the fact that most teams this season haven't outthought and outplayed us.

At the end of the day, it is black and white for a lot of fans, you only have to read Roy's 'view froms' to see either 'we're shit' or 'we should beat this lot' in most cases.

5 points from 24, is it Coutts missing, is it teams sussing us out, is it certain players losing form, probably a combination of them all but football is football, I'm sure Citeh fans thought they should just have turned up today to win but they very nearly lost.

That's why we all love football :)

We didn’t score, but had 65 percent possession and 16 shots on goal.

I don’t think we failed on every front, far from it. As Wilder pointed out, we failed in the final third.

How many games do we actually nick, in the way Bolton did yesterday, or several others have done against us this season? It never happens, we win because we dominate, which flatters our forwards a bit.

The problem is, we don’t have the money to solve it.

One of the issues for me and a problem with the personnel is that we get boat loads of crosses in every game but only ever 2 strikers to aim at and maybe the other wingback. There never seems to be anyone on the penalty spot to pull it back to.

Really? It didn’t feel like we had 16 shots. Maybe 6 would have been my guess.

The last 18 months have been even sweeter because our success has been accompanied by attractive, attacking football. Yes, I enjoyed the Bassett and Warnock years but I'm enjoying this more because it's more enjoyable to watch.

In some ways the beginning of this season has been even more enjoyable than last season because we've taken a team of journeymen and beaten some of the best in the league purely on the basis of tactical sophistication and quality football.

Since Birmingham, or thereabouts, the other teams in the league have woken up and realised what we're about and are trying to do us over the way we would've done them in years past. Frustratingly, we haven't quite worked out how to overcome that, and realistically we might not have the quality of players to completely overcome it at all.

But we should be snobs. We should be proud of the football we play as well as the success it's brought us. We're better than these clods and that's just a fact.
