Baldock

He certainly looked the best right Wingback in the league today.

With the slight caveat that he didn’t have to worry much about doing any defending today, much as Freeman didn’t last season.

I sound so negative today, but I still prefer Freeman.
George doesn't stop bleeding crosses coming In, drives me mad.
Freeman is much better, doesn't switch off from crosses from the opposite side. Freeman crosses better, and gets in the box more. Baldock is decent enough but Freeman is better and he doesnt throw his hands up at misplaced passes and Freeman will chase lost causes, he is more positive more a bladey blade type player

George is good going forward but as a defender he gives the outside all the time and almost never stops the ball across. Also, he was totally responsible for the second Villa goal by not blocking his man Jedinak.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like him as a player but he has to pick up on the discipline side of defending to match his tireless forays up front.

In fact in the second half today he was in loads of space so many times while we kept the ball in tight situations on the left rather than spreading it to him.

The Magic can only get Better

Great player.

We must not forget though his name should always be pronounced BAL-dock (bal rhyming with gal) rather than BALL-dock which is rubbish.

An example would be...

“Nah den BAL-dock, gerrold o’ ball and geed it Couttseh”

Pleased he got a goal through getting into the position that Freeman did so many times last season. When he starts to add the assists that Freeman also did he may be considered equal.
The Basham/Freeman RCB/RWB partnership is as important to us as anything we have.

What a shift he put in yesterday and deserved that dramatic goal.

Wilder in his interview mentioned all the personal challenges these lower league recruits have had this season up at this level. Baldock's season has been spoiled by two big injuries but, in Wilder's words, " imagine what these lads will play like in four or five years time spent at this level ( or above)", they are new to it right now.

and we've now got cover with Vickers and Baldock available to step in when needed. Real competition for places.

Wonder if Baldock or Freeman could play LWB where Stevens needs a rest IMO.

whaaaaat game were you watching , he was immense today plays as a winger a midfielder and defender down that right

I "liked" what Lmaobob had put there, so I'll give my reasoning...

I thought Baldock was off the pace yesterday v Sunderland. I saw very little of him overlapping down the flank and whipping good crosses in. I also thought he was poor in the game at Preston the other week and like many others, when he got took off I thought it must be because he was injured again, because he'd been poor all game.

I thought his goal yesterday was superb though - but no, I wouldn't say he had a good game by his own previous high standards.

I really wouldn't trouble folks with pronunciations mate - most on here can't even spell their names, never mind pronounce them correctly. Strange thing is, they can spell names like "Fjortoft", but not "Brooks" or "Clarke". :tumbleweed:

If you want to rest Stevens we could always try an actual left wing back there, someone like Lafferty, instead of having to play people out of position.

Very good signing. Good ability, good attitude. Gets up and down the pitch constantly and doesn’t mind getting stuck in either. Freeman will have a job getting back in if George stays fit and that speaks volumes.

Ridiculous idea,I think James Hanson could do a job there whilst Stevens has a rest

He did have a good game today and he has been brilliant most of the season BUT at Villa he was poor but he’s bounced back

Freeman is a two footed player and if I remember correctly, he started his career here on loan as a left back

Like Lundstrum, will get better the more games he gets. There is a question mark over his fitness, but definitely a good signing (and hopefully he can now stay fit).
