Seriously? And your name is McGrath. You should understand the need for Wright’s guidance
Yes but this defence isnt one of the bestThe best defences I've seen at Bramall Lane didn't need some sort of Mike Brearley type character to guide them through.
When defences are playing as a back 4 they don't usually need any guidance, it's fairly straightforwardThe best defences I've seen at Bramall Lane didn't need some sort of Mike Brearley type character to guide them through.
No one more than me would love to see Stearman do well for us, as i think you know, there's absolutely no agenda from me. Whether it's something else i'm not sure, but you have to agree the defence has slipped big time since losing Coutts, and taking Wright out of the mix. Those early excellent performances at the back are now a distant memory as we suddenly appear all over the shop. I remember a similar situation arose last year when Tufty started to airbrush Wright out of the picture for EEL - we all know what happened next. I can't help but think we're seeing a similar situation arise again.Had Wright played it would likely have been him. He wouldn’t have won it. He’s a very small centre-back and not particularly good in the air.
It was bad defending at a set-piece by the team as a whole. It was a problem throughout the game.
Have Tufty and one or two of us who have dared to notice Wright’s limitations got it completely wrong?

I know it's going against the grain and certainly Tufty's (far superior) view on things, but i can't help but calling it as i see it. Maybe there's other things in the mix that we don't see as fans ??
I must admit, i'm torn between Blackman and Moore - i think Moore has been very good these last two games, although i think there's a chance Blackman may have come out and claimed Villa's 2nd yesterday.I have to agree with this. I believe we're stronger at the back with Jake Wright in the side. I also feel less confident on crosses coming into the box with Moore in goal. I'd personally like to see Blackman and Wright recalled to the starting line up.
this.. all dayIs Harry Arter out if his depth in the Prem? He started lower down, as have many a player. Ian Wright wasn't bad was he? Didn't turn pro until in his 20s.
To say Wright is a limited lower league defender is a bit... Well... Shortsighted.
I've not said Stearman is awful or shouldn't be in the team. It's about balance. Sometimes your players with more 'ability' don't fit in the TEAM quite as well as others.
Neither Tufty nor Stears have said it was a penalty. You’re making it up. I saw it clearly. Stears played the ball. Nobody would say it was a penalty had it been their favourite making the perfectly good tackle. Nobody would disingenuously blame Wright fir the second either, when all three CBs were weak and hesitant at the set piece.
Oh, you Shakies do amuse me...but I see you coming.

Never mind statistics. What qualities as a player makes Wright better.
All fair points. I agree that Jake Wright didn't have the best game at S6, but i don't think he could do anything about CCVs 2 slip ups, and Tufty's suicidal subs against Fulham. As you more or less say, it's out of all of our hands and we just have to trust in Tufty's judgement - i just hope he finds a way to sort out our recent leaky defence pronto.I accept that you have no agenda other than the success of Sheffield United. I do not believe that about many others. The Agenda comes into life most often and most vituperatively when the chairman is mentioned, but there’s a large hint of it on this issue I’m afraid.
I think Richard Stearman is the better Centre-back. It doesn’t stop me greatly admiring Jake Wright as I have done consistently. I don’t lay in wait for Jake Wright to make an error or still worse, ascribe errors to him where there are none.
Some so-called Blades decided Stearman was crap as early as pre-season friendlies, which is ridiculous and they stick steadfastly to that. The event of conceding five at home with “Organiser” Jake at the heart of the defence goes unmentioned as did his poor performance at the Sty and his almost gifting the opposition in a goal in the previous match at The Lane. A Stearman performance is subjected to critical and hostile analysis.
Now Wilder, as those of us like you and me who are not barmy realise, prefers Stearman. Every fan has a right to disagree with him but he picks Stearman; Stearman does not pick himself. Ergo, Tufty doesn’t see Jake as first choice (he didn’t when he recruited him either) so the arm waving, finger-pointing and knee-jerking on here is futile. By the end of January, Stearman (who has been far from perfect but nowhere near as bad as claimed by those adhering to the Agenda) will have cemented his place or there will be a newcomer. I think there will be a newcomer in any event. Jake Wright isn’t going to feature. Not my choice; the manager’s.
Been thinking that Blackman should be playing against Bolton on Saturday. He caught everything in the air at their placeI must admit, i'm torn between Blackman and Moore - i think Moore has been very good these last two games, although i think there's a chance Blackman may have come out and claimed Villa's 2nd yesterday.
I do wonder if Wilder is thinking of phasing out the 3 at the back with the introduction of RS. I think Wright thrives as the central figure in a 3 but not sure how he'd fair as one of a pair........
Great point!Been thinking that Blackman should be playing against Bolton on Saturday. He caught everything in the air at their place
