Brian Deane's 3 England caps should go a long way towards settling the argument.

I expect him to be announced on 2nd January.

His goals have severely dried up recently. 3 goals since start of October.

He has pace but I doubt that will initially be enough to give him a regular place in the team. I see him as one for the bench and the future.
I am however not a scout and can only assume that our management team have seen something that he offers that no one else in this price range has available. Not comparing him but Who thought Brian Deane would turn out to be the player he was?
He will not cost much and will not require much in wages

Cole has a nice touch, is quick, has shown he can score and has age on his side as he is only going to get better.
He wants to come to United.

He is cheap too, so can only be a good signing. I don’t see him getting straight into the starting line up, but he is a different option from the bench.

Ok, so we would all like someone who is going to make an immediate impact. But I suspect this signing is a view to next season more than this as I fear Wilder has realised that losing Coutts has realistically cost us a chance of promotion. If we had continued as we were, had managed to avoid the bad luck of injuries then I reckon we might have gambled a little more cash.
But now, we aren’t going to be able to find a new midfield genius and will have to wait for Coutts to come back. The positive is that Lundstram is getting better and although he won’t reach a Coutts level this season he will start next season even better and be more of an able deputy when Coutts/Fleck are missing. And I see the same thing with Cole.
He will play, not much, but will be ready for next season.

I knew that the moment it happened. Couttsy is far and away our best player. He was at the heart of everything we did well. A Rolls-Royce of a footballer. We’re missing the vital component in our Tuftyball machine, He’s irreplaceable.

Perhaps we should bring in a few ragamuffin shadow-chasers who can’t play? The S2 solution. The hoofers are salivating at the thought. Happily, Tufty will stick to the right way.

Me too.
Was on a night out keeping an eye on the game, all was well then bang.
Knew there and then that we were going to struggle.

Hopefully the players and staff aren't throwing the towel in like a few of our fans are.

It goes without saying that losing Coutts was a huge blow but he also played in our defeats and below par displays. Finishing top 2 was a huge task even with him despite the great run we had. We were performing to our max with over half the season still to go.

As it stands we're still in a play off spot, and whilst I'm not overly expectant in the next two games, we're only a couple of wins from looking very healthy again top 6 wise.

Nice to see he's keeping up his goal a month record since the window closed. On the plus side, apparently he tracked back quite well last Sunday

Unless management are seeing something no-one else has, this one still amazes me.

He's a fast black man who doesn't look like much of a footballer.

I supported this signing in the summer, mainly because we looked short up front, and Leon doing as well as he has done wasn't anticipated by any of us.

I'm not against it, but I'm not sure he'd come in and make a big impact.

He is after all though, a rather fast black man. Pace can always change games and we don't have much of it at that end of the pitch.

He wasn't very good last Sunday tbh. But in the last televised game he was. So he's still a bit inconsistent. Or he's not risking injury because he's desperate to move. He's tall and quite pacy, reasonable control. Could be a good player if he trains hard under our coaches.

We need 'is' not 'could be'.

There's nothing to lose for 200k. It's well worth a punt. I think that's how they see it.

There won't be much pressure on him. He won't be our main attacking signing.

We can't afford 'is'.
We could if we wanted to, particularly if Brooks goes but as we all know, it's not as easy as that.

Just don't see the point in Cole, wouldn't walk into the team, possibly not even make the bench.

Maybe theres a Hanson / Lavery swap involved.

If we sold Brooks we could afford the transfer fee but we'd struggle with the wages and it could potentially create disharmony in the dressing room.

I'm not getting too excited about Cole, he's not his dad, but I'm not sure about who the alternatives are, particularly in the JTW.

You dont see loads of players with pace and a solid if not spectacular goal scoring record available for relative peanuts.

Suspect his career to date suggests he’s by no means the finished article but would be worth a low risk punt.

Do wonder with wilder saying he hoped for 1 perminant and the rest loans might mean we have moved on from Cole.

9 goals in 24 games, compare that to Billy and Leon and its not great when you consider he is playing in League 1. but he is cheap at 200k and has the chance to improve so it's a no brainer. Yes please
