This is absolutely mental. Whatever you think about us selling him it's quite clear he isn't in any way international standard right now. The Everton fans don't think he's ready for their side and yet now he's in the England squad.

It seems any young player at a big club is getting a call up. I suppose there is some logic in getting the youngsters into the national set up but the likes of DCL have done nothing other than play a few games in the top flight.

I genuinely wish him luck but this call up or totally unmerited in my opinion. I'm being serious when I say I don't think he's better than Clarke at this moment. Jesus

I am sure I heard a report that DCL was the fastest player in the Premier league.

He is very athletic young pup. A bit like I used to be.

If he gets a call up maybe we will get a bonus payment from his transfer fee?

HH

They ought to give Bobby Charlton a bell I reckon he could still do a job up front.

You see Flatulent_Bob
It' not what you can do with England - it's who you okay for

I'm still glad we sold him. Such a bizarre story his career is turning out to be. He genuinely doesn't look like a player still. I've watched him loads and don't know what he offers. Everything about him seems to contradict itself. For example:

- He's a full England international striker yet was bought for £1million last year.

- He rightly couldn't get onto a league one bench then goes two leagues higher and starts every week.

- He looks shite every week for Everton and yet still gets called up for England.

- He's described by most as a big target man but has played wide midfield most of his career with us and Northampton.

Everton haven't got any other strikers so he HAS to start every week and because there are at least 5 or 6 worse performers in that side every week he's getting a free pass at the moment. Fans don't turn on the young kid when there are players on 70 grand a week not turning up. I think he might just be the luckiest footballer in the game at the moment.

English players who have scored more or as many than Calvart Lewin this season in the Prem

Harry Kane
Jamie Vardy
Marcus Rashford
Jermaine Defoe
Daniel Sturridge
Danny Welbeck
Glenn Murray
Peter Crouch
Charlie Austin
Leighton Baines
Steve Cook
Sam Clucas
Tom Cleverley
Jamaal Lascelles
Harry Maguire
Solly March

The cupboard really is bare

Its absolutely bizarre that he is a starter for Everton in the prem and now in the England side.

I mean no disrespect to the lad but I've seen plenty of him for Everton and don't see much difference as to when he played for us.

Tipped him to reach the very top when he left, and am unsuprised that he's on the verge of an England call up after getting a massive new five year contract. All this despite leading the line for a club that gives him close to no service.I'd agree that he ideally wouldn't be leading the line for Everton at this stage.A loan spell at a Championship club would allow him to develop his game in a less pressured environment.People who judged him on a couple of Blades starts, and a few sub appearances really showed themselves up on this one.

I didn't regret that deal at the time and I don't regret it now. Wilder made great use of the money and we got promoted.

Personally, I still don't see it, but I suppose he's playing in a bad side so it's harder to judge if he'll ever be a regular PL scorer. Good luck to him, though I am still smarting from 1994 and would not be opposed to an Everton relegation.

Good luck to him, but I think the scenario he finds himself in puts more pressure on him than necessary.

As most have said, he doesn’t look good enough yet and throwing him in at the deep in could ruin him.

Still, it’s another string to the bow for the academy. Although our under 18s did lose to Wednesday multi-million pound ‘under 23s’ earlier in the week, so maybe the tide is turning ;)

Always thought Dominic would make a very good player ( check my previous posts )..He scored an hatrick against Worcester city in the FA cup a few years ago( right foot left foot and a header ).
Very good technical player , just needed time to mature which he is doing now.
A lot of blades fans wrote him off as he was not ready for the early burly of the 1st division.
Managers and coaches who have been in the game all there life's obviously rate him as I do ,he's one of ours ( a big blade ) .more money coming out way if he makes the step up.

I think this call up says more about the state of the England team right now than it does about DCL.
Other names included in the squad...Joe Gomez, Ashley Young, Jake Livermore, Rueben Loftus-Cheek. The golden generation this is not.

GLTTL and all that jazz but I do think this is a bizarre one.
  • I didn't see anything to warrant making our squad, yet alone our starting XI.
  • I didn't see anything to warrant a £1m bid from a premier league club.
  • I didn't see anything to warrant making the Everton squad.
  • And more to the point, I certainly don't see a starting XI prem player.
  • I definitely don't see an England player.
His story continues to go form the surreal to the bizarre and I'm not sure how much of it is on merit. Same goes for much of the recent England call ups. I still don't regret selling him, as has been said, his fee made promotion possible.

Pleased for the kid and no sour grapes from me

It's not sour grapes to be astonished by a turn of events.
I haven't been this surprised in football since Bob Wilson came out of retirement to play in goal, the Kemp brothers (Spandau Ballet) started up front and Geoff Boycott went on the board of directors for Melchester Rovers.

I'll never understand how he starts for a premier league team, but I do feel he's being forced into it as Everton have no options at all. To be fair to him he has done it at youth levels for England.

GLTTL
and GLT his missus

With apologies to original and best internet weirdo Roygbiv - here's a few views from Everton:

"DCL looks like he could play all season and score about 3 goals."

"To qualify my comment- the entire team is utter gash. Which isn’t helping DCL, I don’t think he’s PL quality however"

"I think his strength has developed, looks more of a 'man' this season"

"It’s not his fault he’s not a ready made Lukaku replacement. I still think he has a big future."

On his call up...

"Really, Jesus Christ Southgate is on crack"

Isn't this a bit like the Cov fans disbelief at Fleck being in a team 2nd in the championship when they all thought he was pap? A different team, different style can bring other stuff out of a player. GLTTL

PS I've seen him play for Everton once and I wasn't that impressed really.

I can't find anything on the net re DCL call up, Dominic Solanko (who?) yes, DCL no.

Do we get an extra part of the transfer fee from Everton if\when he makes his debut for England.

International recognition is one of the agreed addons sometimes put on for when a young player moves to a Premier League team.

Not at all, Coventry fans were very upset to lose their best player on a free not many thought he was pap. United fans on the other hand were not too bothered when DCL went to Everton as he had shown next to nothing here and at Northampton with Wilder in charge there. Good luck to the lad but I am astonished he has made Everton's 1st team never mind England, maybe that explains why Everton will be lucky to avoid relegation and why England will be on the first plane away from the World cup.
