Thank Buddah for that, I was about to denounce his 4 goals.

PointlessThey aren’t playing on Remembrance Weekend, so did it on the closest date. What’s wrong with that?
Pointless
its the nearest league game to the rememberance Sunday, as the international games are next weekNot sure why we're doing this a week before Remembrance Day anyway.
So are we celebrating Christmas Day on 23rd December because it's the nearest Saturday. No, probably not. Remembrance Day is November 11, Remembrance Sunday is the nearest Sunday to November 11. Accept no substitutes.its the nearest league game to the rememberance Sunday, as the international games are next week

Just for the record, my family saw continuous active service from when my great-great-grandfather joined the Royal Artillery in 1855 to when my uncle retired in 1983. My grandfather landed in Belgium in August 1914 with the BEF and served throughout WW1, my Uncle Bruce was in the first wave on shore on D-Day in 1944.Bollocks.
It'd be nice if they were truthful. My ancestors didn't fight (and in one case, die) for our freedom or democracy. They died frightened and confused whilst being part of an imperial dick waving contest.
Tell that to the 6 million vollunteers who fought for YOUR futureIt'd be nice if they were truthful. My ancestors didn't fight (and in one case, die) for our freedom or democracy. They died frightened and confused whilst being part of an imperial dick waving contest.

I am very grateful that they survived when so many did not, but I can feel equally for those who were not so lucky.
What I do know is that my forebears would not have moved an important date just to suit the whims of a professional football club, however well intentioned their motives.
The logic is: we celebrate events on the accepted day and not any other. What's illogical about that.Just the most awful logic here

That is a fair point and not one i have thought of before. The logic is: we celebrate events on the accepted day and not any other. What's illogical about that.

And clapping during the period of silence, what's wrong with just silence?
As luck would have it next Saturday is November 11th, THAT'S the day they should be wearing poppies on their shirts. If there isn't a league game then they may have to choose to join in with the commemoration of their local community.I’m sure you’re very proud of that, as I would be. But you’re advocating the players not wearing a poppy on their shirts because the game isn’t on Rememberance Sunday, and I don’t get that. What date has been moved, exactly?

Securing freedom and democracy in the process. I can understand people not being criticised for NOT wearing poppies etc. But criticising people FOR wearing them is just beyond me
Where did I criticise the wearing of poppies? To my knowledge I criticised the reasons for WW1 itself.
Where did I say you did?
Thats the point they volunteered. And how many conscripted should I tell?
Yes, because there is plenty of opportunity to offer those tributes on the appropriate day; that isn't today. That's all I'm saying. So there shouldn’t have been any rememberance tributes today, is that your way of thinking?
Not me personally fair enough. But who else is slagging those who do wear red poppies?
