Another one that was part of the failure culture that we’ve got shut off alongside other such wastes of space like Collins, Mceverley, Hammond, Flynn etc ....

I never want to see him start in goal for us again.

More chance of me making a comeback I think. Good luck to him, but I really don't think he will play for us again.

OK this is the last time I'm going to say this and it's the reason I have given up rating players on the forum. I recall that George Long was given a better average match performance rating than pretty much any other player in his last stint for us. By members of this forum. Yes you and you and you - maybe not you.

As you rightly point out he was the highest rated player as voted for by forum users over the entire 2015/16 season including 10 MOM Ratings.

Adkins' season? George was adequate that season amidst a whole ocean of garbage. Guess that was reflected in the numbers.

Does the 'ocean of garbage' you refer to JohnDenver include Sharp,Basham and Coutts who played that season?

Coutts was largely garbage under Adkins. The other two weren’t, and Sharp pretty much kept us out of a relegation fight single handed.

If “ocean of garbage” is too extreme a description for Adkins’ season, then I’m struggling to think how. :)

My point is that Long was an adequate Div1 keeper during one of the worst seasons in our entire history. I’m not surprised he’s thriving in a healthier environment.

I agree JohnDenver the season as a whole was garbage under Adkins in that we finished mid table. I was just pointing out how Longs performances were recognised as being the best amongst the team over the season as judged by forum users. And that some of the players he finished above Sharp, Coutts, Basham are key players this season (and last). Yes Sharp with 21 goals was also excellent and only marginally behind Long in the forum ratings. Of course forum ratings arent the be all and end all but they do give an insight into how a player is percieved and their value to the team by the average forum Blade supporter. Which we all are incidentally however much some may suggest their opinion is better than others (not you by the way).

Having said all that, although Wilder agreed a new contract with Long he subsequently dropped him after a poor start by Long (and the team) and in came Moore who had an excellent promotion season and the rest is history as they say.

Long is having a good season at Wimbledon again in a poor team and is quite comfortable as a league one first choice keeper and I have no doubt in the years to come he will play at a higher level. I think it may well be away from United as others have said. I may be wrong but that's my opinion. I know its not shared by many on here but there you go.
