Just been looking at this on the BBC website and got to say I love some of them. If, as rumour is suggesting, our home game against the swine is switched to a friday night, could we welcome them with a display like those Bayern, Legia or Dortmund? Not that we'll need it but it could really get us rocking and would look amazing under lights at BDTBL. Just a thought during a dull work lunchtime.

It'd look beautiful at Bramall Lane.

But we can't have any of that at Bramall Lane because a bunch of double denim wearing luddites of a certain age don't like it.

And we should insist on flares :)

It's completely unthinkable that English fans would show such a level of commitment and organisation. It shouldn't be, but it is.

Who's designing and footing the cost?

Serious question.

Unless you're Leicester City, of course...

It would be us obviously... But we won't because we're tight northerners that bring in our own flask and sarnies instead of paying for hot watered down drinks and shit sausage rolls.

Best laugh I've had today.

Leiecester City, with a banner that says "Let slip the dogs of war".

More like 'let slip the pen to go into administration, rip off the local ambulance service and don't finish paying for your stadium'.

I suppose that would need a bigger banner....

What's that supposed to be in the second photo, an Elephant Pig?

You might be onto something there. Aren't elephants lauded in Thailand? Maybe the Dolphin Killer could change their owl into a 'more lucky' elephant?

He got rid of the stripes, so a crosseyed owl shoudn't be hard to replace. They could let Wolves keep 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' being as they had it first and go with the Daktari/Tarzan themes.

Perhaps even the elephant song out of the Jungle Book?

Is that unthinkable for the Derby? :)

No, but I think the point of these things is that they are designed, made and paid for by the fans.

The poppy thing was a nice touch and a display of respect. The odds of the club taking it upon themselves to manufacture an enormous, intimidating banner as a big 'fuck off' to Sheffield Wednesday are slim to none.

I've been toying with varios motiffs, Shakespearian quotes and latin mottos, but I think you have it there.

A big banner that says "FUCK OFF WEDNESDAY" should display our heartfelt sensibilities to our City breathren.

manufacture an enormous, intimidating banner

Just as a matter of interest, has anyone, anywhere, ever been intimidated by a banner?
We need a fucking sight more than "care in the community" if they have.

"I'm not going to Leicester dad, that banner scares the crap out of me".
"OK son, perhaps we'll do something else for your 21st then".

Continental football seems to be much more of an intertwined political and social machine than here. As a result you have myriad supporters groups ranging from right wing hooligans, fanatical (but not necessarily violent) ultras, the Spanish 'peñas' etc, many of which have close ties with clubs and varying levels of influence. There are political leanings, business ties, often open conflicts between groups of fans of the same club.
The various machinations often give rise to a much more cohesive supporter community, and certainly result in financial and social support from the clubs (sometimes as a form of barely disguised blackmail/extortion). Coupled with the much less self-conscious continental attitude to expression on the terraces, it's no surprise that these mosaics/tifos are less prevalent here than elsewhere.
This is why I'd like to see the eventual kop development go hand in hand with some deep and wide ranging initiatives to integrate atmosphere generating ideas. A snarling, smoking, loud and colourful kop with 15k chanting fans on it could be worth an extra 10 points a season.

Chuffin hell, my computer's been hacked and I've been directed to the Guardian forum.

Myriad?
Cohesive?
Machinations?
Initiatives?
'Expression on the terraces'?

In the words of that rarely sung 60's gem:

"Sing something simple, you simple TWATS"
