Home : Joe Mercer, big win against Charlton Athletic, think it was his last game as manager
Away : John Harris,Scunthorpe United at the Old Show ground,a draw i think, went on a football special train
Charlton match was 20th December 1958. John Harris became our manager on 20th April 1959 but Archie Clark was still our caretaker manager when we played at Scunthorpe on March 28th 1959

John Harris, not sure of the year, 71/72,? It was the promotion year from Division 2. Blades 3 Oxford 0. Hooked for life, I will never forget the first time i saw the pitch and stadium when I came up the steps at the Bramall Lane upper tier end as a 9 year old. Thanks Uncle Sid !
November 28th 1970.

The day after my maternal grandmother died

For me it was John Harris in a home game v Newcastle. 2-0 down ,i think and won 3-2 with a late Tony Wagstaffe penalty. Hooked for life!
Wagstaff did score the winner but it wasnt a penalty. Woodward scored our first with a penalty

Thanks Silent. Typo. :)

One of the earliest typos in English printed form appeared in the poem "The Faerie Queen" in 1590.
Elizabeth I was the reigning monarch at the time, she was 56 years old (57 after the 7th September). It was also the year that Hans and Zacharias Janssen invented the compound microscope.

See I can do this shit too :)

Harris '72. I have no clue who we played but know I was allowed to go as I'd started school.
I can though remember walking up the steps of Gangway 7 on John Street and seeing the pitch for the first time.....a totally awesome sight to a four year old..... and still is to a 49 year old (although Kop now rather than John Street)... I've always known this is where I belong

Somebody's testimonial in 88/89 I think.
First league game was against Liverpool and 'that deano goal.'
So it's Harry Bassett for me.

Ken Furphy - just. He got the bullet soon after.
My dear old dad was a big Wednesday fan but took me to the Lane to watch the game as it was the first season of the South Stand.
I wish he was here today - I'd take the piss out of him something rotten

John Harris early 60's can't remember who against Doc Pace up front & Joe Shaw centre half.

Kendall in a 3-1 home to Oxford!
My 3rd or 4th game was that game at the old Wembley vs Palace

Just look at that tooth. It looks like someone kicked his old one out and after a quick search, they pulled a tombstone out of Hutcliffe Wood and knocked it into the socket. Poor, ugly fucker.

pommpey

In one of the United player autobiographies (forgot which one) they mention about Squirrel in the club canteen, had tommy sauce or brown sauce on everything then would lick the bottle top ... ergh!!!

John Harris 1 - 1 verses Hull City 1969, Tuesday night at Easter. I was hooked and had a season ticket the next season in the Bramhall Lane Stand.

Pompey, that was a fucking fang!

John Harris
1962 FA Cup Quarter final v Burnley
L 0-1
Ball bounced off side of Ray Pointer's head and went in. Played with 10 men for most of match, Gerry Summers tore a muscle and stood on the wing with his leg strapped up, no subs in those days.

At least that was the first one I remember.
I was at the front, not far from the cricket scoreboard near the kop, fairly close to where the railings collapsed,it was so foggy i couldn't see a bloody thing.
