“Usually the easy retort to these Yorkshire clubs that harp on about tradition is that we’ve won and achieved more in the last 15 years than Leeds, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday have put together. And 15 years is a long time.”

And my easier retort is that it's irrelevent since you supported Chelsea 15 years ago.

And if you want to stick an arbitrary timeframe on it, we've won more trophies in 12 months than all of Thames Valley put together. What an achievement.....

"They start very fast and are quite direct"

Yet more ill informed bollocks based on false assumptions.

"It is a bit odd, seems to be a common theme amongst many northern clubs. What they either don’t realise, or choose to ignore is that football was effectively a closed shop for the northern sides and a few London sides until 1920 when they were kind enough to let us southern sides join in"

A re-writing of English football history worthy of Stalin.

"“They start very fast and are quite direct – we will struggle early on”"

Not sure about the direct quote.

We are a direct side. You can be direct and play on the deck, too. It's a common misconception that direct = long ball.

Direct just means you aim to get the ball in good areas as quickly as possible.

Cheers Roy. Fairly balanced comments. Reading are a Jekyll and Hyde team at the moment as their fans have alluded to. Fairly confident we'll have enough to beat them. Utb

Quite a mixed bag of comments. Some intelligent and reasonable, some ill-informed.
I genuinely cannot wait for the game. Really looking forward to it.

That’s akin to suggesting the Gerritforrad Brigade are actually calling for nice careful along-the-ground accuracy.

I also think even with your modified description it doesn’t apply to us. Getting the ball into good areas as quickly as possible is not the same as direct football, which is a means of short-cutting the steps to get it into goalscoring positions. I would argue that we often in moves could “get it into good areas” but will choose to work the ball round a few more phases to carve out a better goalscoring chance.

funny how when they refer to their own team and players they say ,them and their and not us and we ,very strange but says alot .it's probably their second team behind arsenal and spurs etc.

"but generally they come across as a decent bunch"

Where was he looking? :). Suppose we're o.k. when we're winning!!

Some of them might, you never know :D

I'm not so sure. We do work the ball around well and change the point of attack quite regularly, but I'd say we're more towards a direct style than a possession based style. It's the perfect way to play the game for me, so whatever we want to classify it as, I'm happy to watch it.

For instance not via the goalie 3 times on your way to putting a cross in.

cheers Roy, always a great read your view from comments,

whatever Tufty ball is and how it is described by other fans I don't care ! , we are bloody great , show great skill and i love it !

every game is enjoyable now and like all games this season, I am really looking forward to tommorrows game
am I the only one who cant remember feeling like this about every game , maybe the Prem ? but our football was certainly nowhere near what we are doing now ( and NW constant gushing over the opposition ) and even if we lost tommorrow I would still be really looking forward to the next game as you just know the boys will turn up agian and go for it !

Thank you CW + AK !

Why oh why do we "still" get tarnished with the direct football brush? You would think they (Reading fans) would do some research on us before labelling us, its not like there's much else to do in Reading. UTB
