David Brooks - what position is his in our current team ?

Where exactly is he going to play ?

Is he one of our front two ? If he is , who is he going to partner and who subsequently loses their place ? Has he done enough to replace the likes of Sharp Clark or Donaldson ? And has he demonstrated that he'll score the goals that the likes of Sharp Clark or Donaldson already have ?

If he isn't in the front two is he the one playing in the floating supporting role that's currently covered by Duffy ? Has Brooks done enough to replace Duffy in a role that Duffy has excelled in ?

Or is Brooks simply a very good Academy prospect with bags of potential who'll occupy the bench for some time to come and someone who can be thrown on in a couple of different positions ? Is this the type of role that is his level right now ? Or has he already shown he should be one of the first names on the team sheet ?

I'd like to see a front three of Brooks/Duffy/Clarke on Saturday.

For me brooks plays in the ten role behind the front two, it gives him the freedom then to take players on and create great through balls for our strikers. He was used as a striker due to injuries but he’s certainly our number ten IMO. Should be one of the first names on the team sheet, really exciting player and gets the crowd on their feet every time he receives the ball.

I think using him as a striker or a second ‘number 10’ has been good as it allows him more freedom to attack all over the pitch, whereas in the number 10 role with two up top he would need to show more defensive awareness and positional discipline. If it’s two strikers and one behind, I’d rather the one behind was Duffy for the majority of games while Brooks is still learning.

I think whether he starts or comes off the bench would depend on form, opponents and system, and he isn’t a guaranteed starter just yet in my opinion. He could also prove to be a greater weapon in the last 20 minutes against tiring defenders with his pace and dribbling ability.

Aside from being our most exciting player to watch at the moment, I’m really pleased that he’s stepped up and performed in big games while we were short on forward options, and he will be keeping Billy, Clarke and Don on their toes in the short term, plus Lavery and Ched when fit. He’s putting pressure on them more than Duffy at the moment.

Play him wherever we can fit him in - he’s that good. In a front two with Clarke, or just behind the front two as an attacking midfielder. Don’t worry about pointless deonominators like “left”, “centre”, or “right”, because he’s a freee spirit and will pop up all over the place.

The most important thing about playing him is that the rest of the team is fluid enough to play alongside him. His movement can create gaps if others aren’t reading his game and changing position to compensate for him.

Don’t worry about who he replaces either. There’s still plenty of opportunity for others in the squad, be they strikers or midfielders, to be involved. And there’ll be games when it will suit us better to use him from the bench. Chris will know what to do, don’t worry.

Clarke is the obvious choice for the number 9 role as he seems to link up well with Brooks and make intelligent runs for the lad to feed him ,hopefully brooks/Duffy and clarke/Sharp/Donaldson are interchangeable

I'd go for that away from home, a la ' Swillsborough Slaughter' , but at the Lane I'd like to see him behind two strikers.

I think he's shown he should be in the team more often than not. We have to use a talent like him while he's here. But it is a real dilemma finding the best way to include him.

Ultimately he'll probably take Duffy's role, but for now it suits him playing as a second striker, at least until our main strikers are all fit and firing. Between Sharp, Clarke and Donaldson we've got good strike partnership possibilities and it would seem a bit wasteful to only play one of them.

Can play anywhere in the three behind a single striker. In Duffy's role, in our usual three five two formation. Could play in a three up top in one of the wide positions, or as a tradition winger. .In a free role.Loads of options The most interesting aspect of this conversation, for me, is whether we carry on with the high pressing style with Brooks in the team? Against the pigs we were happy to let them have the ball in neutral positions, and to then counter with the pace and trickery of Brooks.If he assumes Duffy's position, and we carry on the pressing style, his work off the ball becomes more crucial.If he plays wide, so will his defensive work (see the pigs equaliser, when he is playing on the right and switches off).Astute fans will have noted the Blades reversion to the pressing style when Duffy came on at Hillsborough, with Brooks going wide right. Partly to counter Carvahal's change to a midfield diamond. It worked a treat for our final two goals.Great problem to have.

He should be 1st name on the teamsheet until his form says otherwise. What we need to stop saying is can't drop Duffy, can't drop Clarke or can't drop Donaldson. These guys are yesterdays new's, Brooks is the future and that's where we should be planning if we want to progress. The three I mentioned still have a role to play but the plan for them has to be short term, sentiment alone is not going to keep them going forever.

Duffy also deserves to be in on merit after for his debouncing exploits in S6 among other good performances of late.

My fellow Blades really do want to discuss at some length, where our wonder kid is best placed. Apologies for misreading the mood.

BTW, I have a sneaking suspicion that CW will "play' him on the bench. Too much of a good thing and all that.
