Will Ched ever score again for us is the real question. I think he may move out on loan in January, maybe permanent to allow room for better strikers to come in.
I don't believe in fairy tales.
I like Ched, so there. No I don't like Ched Evans. Nor do I think we should have signed him. Perhaps you do - fine. If only there were a platform for people with differing opinions to share them...
Weird though innit. I was critical of the club when we were rubbish and I'm not critical now we're doing well. Seems odd, doesn't it?

Absolutely nailed it there Cerebus !To be honest, I don't know any of the current crop of players and therefore I neither like them or dislike them. My only interest in them is watching them play football, which I enjoy a lot. I don't fall in love with them, or make hero's out of them. I probably did that when I was a young impressionable child, but some of us grow up and don't attach feelings of hero worship to footballers. They may be the nicest guys in the world or the biggest scum bags. I just couldn't care less. I just want to watch my team playing good entertaining football and getting some results. I wouldn't treat them any different to any other person if I met them in public.
As for Ched Evans...again my only interest in him is in his football. I think, at his peak, he was one of the best centre forwards I've ever seen in a United shirt. So, having got him for next to nothing, knowing that it's a gamble because he's been out of the game for so long, I'm absolutely fine with that. Nothing to lose as far as I'm concerned. If he doesn't make it - hey-ho! So what? It's not like we've spent £10M on him is it? But if he does recapture his old form he could be worth £10M in the future. So, no issue with that at all.
Of course, we still have some folks who want to object to Evans on what they see as "moral" grounds. They cannot accept that the guy was not guilty of the crime for which he was punished. Worse than that, they cannot bring themselves to allow a fellow human being to get a second chance in life. They have to pretend now that their objection is "football based" - but really they don't like him because of what he got up to and they can't cope with that. That's fine - but it's not a reason why he shouldn't be at this football club.

Whilst I understand your point I don't fully agree either.
I wouldn't want footballers with serious questionable backgrounds playing for our club. I mean I don't need to know any 'scumbags' such as wife beaters, paedophiles, hit and run or abusers personally to know I wouldn't want them playing for the Blades no matter how good they are.
A very thoughtful post. I would view the question of personality/character slightly differently - professional sport is public performance, like stage, tv, film, etc. Fans like a personality, whether it's a player with a smile on his face, like my old hero Hodgy, or a pantomime villain like the Norwich keeper recently. We all have our preferences, but it is performance at the end of the day. As the old showbiz adage goes, 'The most important thing in this business is sincerity - once you've learnt to fake that, you're made'. Who knows what they are like in real life?To be honest, I don't know any of the current crop of players and therefore I neither like them or dislike them. The first time was a gamble - the majority of our budget on one player who'd shown good form over part of a season (with Norwich). We've now gambled on him again, much older and having barely played for five years. I can't see why anyone thinks it's a good signing and I can't believe anyone thinks he'll be worth £10m.
Even with Ched's conviction overturned and a not guilty verdict, I think what you guys have said about Ched's morals is right. They are (or were) questionable.A fine point, well made.
Everyone has a limit for what they can tolerate from a footballer's private life, so "I don't care what he does" and "he got off so you should support him" holds no water whatsoever. If, for example, that girl was underage, no one would want him anywhere near Sheffield United.
To argue it's purely about football is a cop out. By being happy to have him at the Blades when that's what he did is to condone it. If that's someone's viewpoint, fair enough. But I've copped plenty of stick for saying that what he did to that girl, behind his girlfriend's back, is too much for me.
He'll be a failure anyway. We don't need him.
We've done Ched's morals to death so I won't go there, but was he even worth a small gamble? He was a gamble at 21 for £3m and it took the club to be in freefall for there to be one season where it looked even vaguely worth it. Overall, given where we ended up, it was a disastrous signing and a symptom of the Robson era.

We have so much better at the club already. Several have already proved themselves.
I personally didn’t think he was worth the gamble, but now he’s hear I hope he’s able to get to a level where he’s of use to us,
I’ll wait till the end of the season before passing judgment on that one.
Some people, myself included were on Clarke’s back this time last year. Then he sent us up.Two sensible points from Ched sceptics.
Maybe a few others could just hold their vitriol until the end of the season and actually see what he achieves on the pitch?

If Roy can make a comeback then Ched can

Why does any thread with Ched in it revert back to past issues that have absolutely FUCK ALL to do with the here and now!?
In his last season playing for us he missed the first six weeks through injury, and the last month to the courts. In the time he did play he scored 35 goals. He had strength, pace, two good feet, could head well, make good runs, and pass well to link up play, and show a high standard of finishing. He looked far more than "vaguely worth it". Hence , yes, he was worth "a small gamble". If he makes a good recovery from his ankle operation, then hopefully, you might be pleasantly surprised .We've done Ched's morals to death so I won't go there, but was he even worth a small gamble? For you to suggest that people who are happy to have Ched playing football for us condone his private life behaviour is absolute nonsense. He shouldn`t have been prosecuted in the first place, and then you would have known nothing about it. Maybe you think he should be transported to Australia, but I`m afraid it`s about 200 years too late for that.A fine point, well made.

Seeing how CW and AK improve players so much, I think we need to keep our powder dry whoever they sign.I wasn't on his back but I thought it a poor signing. A 17 club journeyman who spent most of the first few months out injured, made me think he was just here to pick up a wage.
Came good big style though and has continued that into this season. Hat's off to Leon and it's another reason why the anti-Cheds should just keep their powder dry.
If the op means he can get himself into positions where he can get a clean strike on the ball (best in the team) he could be the difference between us staying up and going up this year.
