You may well be right Bush but he hasn't done that with Brookes.

Maybe just maybe we are getting into a position of keeping our talent longer than in previous years.

The other point is that he can’t assemble a title winning team out of £250k players in the championship like he did in League 1 (or at least it would be a miracle if he did. You never know with our Chris though). As such, to be tempted to sell to raise funds, the offer would need to be much higher as players for the championship will be a lot more expensive.

I never cease to be flattered by close examination of my "compleat workes". You've overlooked the one where I, very quickly, acknowledged I was wrong and why.

That puts me in a tiny minority amongst the many armchair pundits on here whose football knowledge is drawn entirely from Junior Computer Manager with no input from real life.
I take it from your earlier reply (149) that I did understand the last sentence correctly. It is to me one of the mysteries of the universe why you keep having to do this. You are obviously a committed Blade, and know about football. The members of this forum are almost all committed Blades, and have a similar range of views to Blades in general. Why do you resort to insulting almost all of us? There is a great sense of unity at the Lane just now, it is a great time to be a Blade; you have recently posted plenty of interesting, witty, insightful posts, but then you return to this type of cheap and unfunny insulting of just about every Blades fan on here. You appear to play at being the forum's Michael O'Reilly - like Ryanair, you eventually cannot resist 'intentionally pissing off' your readers. If I was not interested in your opinions, I would not bother posting this, but I live in hope (not Hope).

Easy answer to this one Hodgy.

I happened to hear some commentary of Lincoln City v Chesterfield this afternoon.
Chesterfield really are garbage. Reed (who didn't even start today, but was brought on after 56 minutes) cannot be learning anything useful with such a bunch of misfits. I know he is on a season-long loan, but can we bring him back in January? If CW has plans to sell him at the end of the season, his value must be going down the pan. For an ex-England youth player it would be sad to see him go on a free transfer.

You could also argue rhat Reed can't even shine at the bottom end of the footballing spectrum. It's not necessarily Chesterfield's fault.

I hope he reaches his potential. I don't think he was helped by being chucked in too early at Bramall Lane and then shunted in and out of the squad.

It has to be said that he didn't look out of place when we played Southampton or Spurs in the League Cup run a few years ago.

It also has to be said he looked complete and utter shite at now relegated Notts County a few years ago when he was finally hooked for one of the worst abject displays I've ever witnessed from a player in nearly 50 years.

Years on from a couple of good passes in a couple of games we need to take the rose tinted glasses off and face it that he is Never Ever going to make it.

The word is that he looked entirely at home sitting on the bench of a club at the bottom of Division Four.

The Wishing Star is fading fast.

Yes, there are lots of great players unfortunate enough to be plying their trade in Division Four because they are surrounded by poor players. The problem is all those poor players claim the same thing. How on Earth Chesterfield struggle when they are blessed with Little Louis, De Juve and Dinonentitaio is beyond me.

In his defence, it was well passed his bedtime…..

Yep, I was at that game, and they're right. Reed had little chance to impose on the game as they were simply terrible all round

Most former academy players are out of the professional game or scraping a wage in non-league football.

This isn’t a a reason to not encourage them whilst still at the club. You do let yourself down at times, and being derogatory about young players is time after time. It’s not like you haven’t been bitten before.

I’ve no wish to encourage poor players (though I would and have done for many years during the ninety minutes) particularly at a time when we have a very good team. The more mediocrities you have; the less successful you will be.

Long and Reed, to name but two, are nowhere near good enough for us. Let them move on and do their best to have a decent career elsewhere, then we’ll all be happy. Wishing them better doesn’t work. Woody has worn the star out.

I was at that game. Chesterfield are doomed. De Girolamo partnered a shockingly past O Grady it and never had a kick before being hauled off after about 55 minutes. Reed came on and did the usual business of having a few nice touches but couldn't create anything of note. Chesterfield were desperate for any kind of penetration but were woefully uncreative. They got a penalty with the only time they got into the Lincoln box in the second half. Reed didn't look out of place, but nor did he look better than anything around him. He's got slightly taller though. Elliot Whitehouse came on for the last five minutes too.

To be fair, as you say, it's possibly not the best context for Reed to be learning his trade. They are going down. To think Brooks nearly went there.

Im sure DavieBlade loved it though and your mate Pinchy.

Not really a concern either way. It was a flippant, tongue in cheek remark not intended to carry any substance made for little more than my own amusement. You can tell when I'm seriously discussing an opinion and I've expressed mine on Reed on here in the past. Some may like it, some may not.
