I know everyone is getting their own thread, I know everyone of 'em was top class today, I know Brooks and Clarke will rightly get the headlines - but Chris Basham was absolutely immense.

If anyone epitomises our turn-around under Wilder and the team-ethic, hard work and 100% commitment with no lack of skill Wilder preaches then it's this man. Played out of position today he was everywhere on that pitch - then when dropping back he was every bit the class defender he has become.

12 months ago I liked his attitude but didn't know where to fit him in. Now he's one of the first names on the team sheet. Absolute stormer today and you can see how much playing for our club means to him - like so many before him you know he's now a Blade for life ala Gagey.

What a year he's had.

Really, really come on under Wilder...thing is, you kind of expect it from him now...which is a great compliment.
UTB!

The point is he's as good as any that CW inherited and is playing and contributing just as much so deserves as much praise as anyone and his Bashembaur tag is well deserved.

Epitomised the spirit of this side today. Will not let you down, well played.

Take my hat off. I have often lamented his lack of skill, but looks better and better every time I watch him, even after an excellent season last year, and that was a vital role he played yesterday. He is a key member of the squad and his attitude and professionalism more than make up for the fact he's not as natural a footballer as most of the lads.

Genuinely not sure if we'd have won without him. Superb decision to start him in midfield. A credit to his profession.

Bash was my Man of the Match, Sheff, he was immense today (or yesterday lol).

It's nearly half past one, just got back to Cannock from Sheffield and I'm still buzzing at the result and how we played.

Fabulous, fabulous day.

Yes agree he was immense and brilliant tactic by CW AND AK to play him midfield. My one critism of Bash and the reason why I don't think he should play there week in week out is his ball distribution. He is great at winning the ball, tackling breaking up opposition attacks but not great then passing. A few times yesterday he just lumped it forward nowhere near a United player. But hell i'm splitting hairs. He did his job superbly and was just part of a magnificent team performance.

Said in my piece yesterday, for all the cash spent by Wednesday on players, give me 11 Chris Bashams for a game like that any day. People mention Wilder and Sharp being boyhood Blades but there's some lads in that group from outside Sheffield who give everything for the shirt, too. And Bash is right up there with 'em

Basham's really established himself as a Blades hero this year.

Agree fully with that point. Like I said in my post, you saw in his interviews last year and celebrations how much this club means to him. Like many before him - Agana, Gage, Bees, Booker, Frenchie etc. He has fallen for this special club which connects to fans and community like few others at our level and will be a Blade for life now.

Love Bash - bone fide Blades hero.

it was fascinating to watch the reaction of the bench when we scored.. full bench clearances every time.. that's a proper 'team'

Always had Basham down as a trier, a utility msn.

But to fair his technical ability has improved no end.
He’s been excellent whether he’s playing as centre half or defensive midfielder.

Apart from his passion for the club and his "big heart" he is a superb natural athlete.

Brilliant again, top lad, so much effort week in week out.
